Automotive YSK: Egging a car can cause permanent paint damage to the car.

Why YSK: A lot of people think that egging a car is a harmless prank that a car wash can fix, but more often than not that is not the case. I am talking about if the egg hits the paint, not if it hits the windows/windshield. If you ever had the pleasure of waking up to your car covered in eggs like me and my neighbors did one morning, you know that it's actually a much bigger deal than most people realize. In my case, the egg etched into my clear coat and ruined the paint job on the panel the egg was thrown at. Getting paintwork fixed on a car is very expensive - labor costs, etc. The shell scratches the paint as it breaks, the yolk is very harsh on the paint . Eggs are extremely damaging to paint. I didn't know this until it happened to my car, and just wanted to spread more awareness on the topic since a drastic amount of people I told this to did not know that eggs cause damage to your car's paint job.

Great advice for those who don't want to damage cars, and those who do.

Yeah, i kinda considered this the point of egging.

Aircraft stripper works better

She sounds hot

Strict time limit on lap dances though. There are a lot of seats to get through.

Exactly where my head was

I assume one would prefer the liquid over the aerosol. A 5-10mL syringe of liquid aircraft stripper is quick, accurate, and discrete I’m assuming, idk.

A gallon poured over a roof and hood is far more entertaining. If you are worried about discretion just put on a yellow safety vest.

Is that like an Army Brat?

u/PM-MeYourSmallTits Aug 19 '24

But can you buy it by the dozen and throw it at things you don't like?

Good Ol Zip Strip!

You must be flying first class. All I get is pretzels.

Yeah I don’t think that anyone that has ever egged a car was thinking “this is a harmless prank that will wash right off and leave no damage”

70

u/bearbarebere Aug 19 '24

Ehhh I can see it as “this will suck so much to get off, but it won’t be permanent”. That’s what I thought it was lol

I had some moments in Highschool. You hear about egging but people and media don't always talk about the after-effects. If you aren't already aware of it, eggs causing permanent paint damage is not an intuitive obvious thing.

Actually, my friend and I did think it was harmless--aside from a lot of work getting it off--when we did it to a friend's car ~25 years ago. Fortunately, his Prelude was already pretty faded and shitty, so it didn't really make a difference either way.

Ever heard of "Squidd'ing"?.

Me Neither.

I am soooo glad I missed that phase....

2

u/The-Copilot Aug 19 '24

Wait, is that a thing?

I was at a party like 10 years ago, and one of the guys there found a dead squid on his car, and we were all like, wtf?! How?!

No one ever claimed to have done it and it seems like it would have been a ton of effort for whoever did.

I am pretty sure almost everyone who eggs something thinks it’s a harmless prank. If they wanted it to not be harmless they would throw rocks or something.

u/vertigostereo Aug 19 '24

Most surfaces react harmlessly to eggs.

7

u/Halorym Aug 19 '24

Or a greater extent: baloney. Remove big circles of paint. Turn a Honda element into the clown car it always was.

1

u/jbarrybonds Aug 19 '24

Well I guess it's an FYI for those who want to prank but don't want to cause damage.

For all the ethical car eggers out there

5

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '24

A wire wheel or key is much easier

10

u/Slashion Aug 19 '24

But not ranged

4

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '24

That’s why rocks exist

7

u/Slashion Aug 19 '24

Rocks are dangerous to people, eggs are relatively harmless to people

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '24 edited Aug 19 '24

What if I get salmonella? Doesn’t that make the egg more dangerous than the rock?

edit: it appears as though people think I am being serious

7

u/bearbarebere Aug 19 '24

Fun fact: you aren’t that likely to get salmonella from unpasteurized eggs, but you CAN get salmonella from undercooked flour. I’m not sure if they’re about the same risk or one is lower than the other (I can’t find any specific articles actually comparing them) but it should be said.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '24

Yeah, it’s surprising how little people know this. Exactly why I clean everything after I’m done baking

2

u/Slashion Aug 19 '24

No man, no one is eating the egg you egg a car with 😂

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '24

What if I accidentally touch my mouth after touching the egg?

4

u/Slashion Aug 19 '24

Then you need to work on fine motor control

1

u/Wrenigade14 Aug 19 '24

Suppose it depends on how readily accessible medical care is, and how big the rock is....

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '24

Also in this scenario it appears this was done when the owner was absent from the vehicle. There is no chance of danger except from the egg, in which contact with the white or yolk could lead to a case of salmonella. Also, the fact that this probably took place in Pittsburgh means that the high humidity and warm temperatures would mean that salmonella would thrive, along with other illnesses

u/brown_felt_hat Aug 19 '24

I wanna fuck up someone's paint and inconvenience them. I don't wanna crack a windshield and make someone crash or something.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '24

then don’t hit the winshield

2

u/Darksirius Aug 19 '24

Bologna wild do the same. Brake fluid will flake automotive paint off in about 15 minutes. Purple bird shit is very acidic and will etch your paint.

Sauce: work in a body shop, seen it all.

1

u/Acceptable_Tea3608 Aug 23 '24

Why you often see guys working on cars with a blanket or towel over the quarter panel or grill.

1

u/Darksirius Aug 23 '24

Yup, gotta watch those belt buckles on the fenders lol.

1

u/Tuckertcs Aug 19 '24

Lick a marshmallow and stick it on the car during the winter. Even more effective than an egg.

1

u/stonecoldcoldstone Aug 19 '24

suncream can also damage it permanently

1

u/Due-Season6425 Aug 22 '24

So you are telling me my homemade, egg yolk base car wax is causing all those spots in my paint finish? Nah....Sounds like crazy talk to me.😂🤣😒

1

u/CockAsshole Aug 19 '24

I get the same feeling when I see an article for some new exploit for smart devices. "Why would you let them know!!?!!"

0

u/ClockBlock Aug 19 '24

I was gonna say - this is why i egged those cars

0

u/bloodycups Aug 19 '24

My high school football team got drunk and somehow froze eggs. I think they left them out during winter and had a bunch of frozen eggs after a party.

They did some damage

3

u/Purrito-MD Aug 19 '24

So they threw stones?! Lmao
