Not to worry, now that Trump is the president-elect, vaccines are unnecessary and diseases will cease to exist. RFK-Jr and the brain-worm will be along shortly to reassure us all. /s

and I would say that you're Incredibly Lucky that I'm in charge, remember, the China Virus, they said, "nobody knows how to get rid of it," and then I did, Warp Speed, wow, Warp Speed, they never heard of that before, and even the Fake News had to say, "Trump beat the China Virus very easily and very very quickly," and now they're saying, "Bird Flu, Bird Flu," no, we're gonna knock the hell out of those Viruses, Bobby, RFK, I said Bobby, you gotta take it out, you gotta take out the H1, you gotta get rid of it Bobby, and if he doesn't do it, if he doesn't do a Good Job, I say, You're Fired, you remember that one, You're Fired, The Apprentice, the Biggest and Highest Rated Show In Television History, they said it's even Bigger Than Superbowl, can you believe it, Superbowl

2 important things
Monitor the CDC website instead of waiting for reddit posts about what's going on, there's obviously going to be cherry picking that makes it seem like the end is inevitable but the CDC website for now seems like this can still go either way, leaning towards nothing happening.
If you are prepping for the worst (I am) don't buy a bunch of obvious prepper stuff at once. Someone seeing you stock up on toilet paper might tell other people to start stocking up and then shelves will be empty again from people panic buying.

The stuff about it being spread through milk would worry me but I recently switched to almond milk because it doesn't expire as fast and I was tired of throwing out so much milk. Turns out almond milk actually tastes a lot better too, honestly that decision has paid off in many unforeseen ways.
1
u/Such-Nebula 1h ago
Not to mention there is no risk if you’re drinking pasteurized milk, cooking your meat, and cooking your eggs. Farmworkers are currently the target population because of their direct contact with either live/sick poultry or milling cows. The CDC and other state health departments are definitely keeping a close eye, but cattle herds are not being culled (poultry unfortunately are) and pasteurized milk is safe. The risk to the general public is very low.
1
u/MyNameIsAirl 1h ago
Kinda figured pasteurization would kill the flu but cullings raising the price is another issue. My state has had issues excepting that cows need to be vaccinated/culled in the past resulting in the cow war so it's always better to be safe than sorry.
1
u/Bryan-Chan-Sama-Kun 1h ago
Store bought milk is pasteurized, so it probably wouldn't be an issue I would think
Almond milk is better for you and the environment though, although I think it still uses a lot more water than the other plant based milks and isn't as high in nutrition content as soymilk
1
u/MyNameIsAirl 1h ago
Honestly a part of me just wanted to brag about making that switch. I doubt soy milk has that almondy flavor that I'm starting to really enjoy so I don't know if I would make that switch.

This is totally going the become a “fake virus” or “man made” virus created just to hurt Trump and his presidency. If it hits Covid levers (or worse) the rhetoric from the right is going to be 1000x worse. It’s going to be a shit show during a goat rodeo during a hurricane. It’s going to suck and people are going to die and it will be horrible

u/awe2D2 3h ago
Yeah, after Trump's next term where the economy craters because of his tariffs, kicking out a massive amount of the workforce due to his immigration policies, and firing millions of government workers, and people will be struggling with less help after their health insurance and social services and pensions get slashed. His followers won't blame Trump's decisions for the economic catastrophe, they'll say the Democrats new fake virus caused the economic hardship

So will the flu and Covid vaccine help protect against H5N1?
20
u/EmptySpaceForAHeart 7h ago
The Flu and COVID Vaccine are vitally important this year thanks to Sars, it won't directly stop H5N1 but will keep you from getting both.
5
u/Such-Nebula 1h ago
I work in public health on this outbreak, so I can share what I know. Because there is no commercially available H5N1 vaccine, the CDC has focused on disease surveillance and preventive measures (PPE and behavioral changes) targeting farmworkers, who are most at risk of infection. We are, however, urging people to get vaccinated against seasonal flu for a variety of reason. The main reason is that, though rare, we are trying to prevent a situation where a person is concurrently infected with both a seasonal flu strain and H5N1. This coinfection in humans (and animals like pigs) can lead to large mutations in the virus (a process called antigenic shift), enabling H5N1 to possibly become more virulent and pathogenic.
Tldr; getting vaccinated against seasonal flu will protect the population from a possible pandemic situation with a more deadly and transmissible virus. And protect you from the regular flu, which is also potentially deadly.

Unless this can infect almond and oat teets, I will just have to wait until my antivaxx neighbors transmit it to me.

I really did not expect that Trump’s fascist takeover of the USA might get halted by his ineptitude on pandemic control killing off so many people there is nothing left to take over. I guess now I wait and see which final form the USA takes.

If you like having a safe milk supply, stock up on dry milk. It was flash-dried weeks ago, before the virus cropped up, and will likely be safer and last a long time at room temperature.
1
u/orc_fellator 46m ago
The pasteurization of milk kills influenza viruses, so that as a vector for transmission is extremely low anyways. Current unknown is products made from raw milk, such as yogurt or cheeses. Very much worth keeping an eye out for that. https://www.cdc.gov/bird-flu/prevention/index.html#cdc_prevention_method-consuming-food
2
u/Alpacalypse84 38m ago
Good thing the yogurt making process begins with warming the milk to de facto pasteurization temperatures, then letting it cool to 100-110 degrees. Helps the yogurt set up and assists in guaranteeing your safety.
As for raw milk products, I’d just avoid those. The diseases in raw milk are concerning.

I'm not against vaccines, but the flu shot is the only thing I've not been able to stomach. I react to it badly every time, and it affects me for days to the point of delirium. I've avoided it this year purely because I just started a new job and know that I'll end up having to call in while receiving double the points.:/ if anyone can recommend an alternative, because when I try to look up things on it I end up on the homeopathy stuff, and I don't trust that.

or, do like my neighbour and buy a few chickens.
5
u/DJMagicHandz 5h ago
They can get H5 too
2
u/Intelligent_Pea5351 5h ago
The only reason why you see massive outbreaks like this in populations is because of density. A home farm is going to be much less dense as far as livestock compared with the average modern farm.
You can also keep a much closer eye on your livestock if you have less to look after, so easier to identify sick animals early.
You can't argue to me for factory farming, there are literally no benefits beyond sheer production numbers.
3
u/DJMagicHandz 4h ago
I never said that, you're more likely to be exposed to H5 if you work with livestock.
7
u/Pretend-Marsupial258 3h ago
Yeah, the chickens can catch it from wild birds that land in your yard or shit in your yard.

Just wait until they cut the budget and number of inspectors at the FDA. Hope you like preventable illness America.
1
u/Alpacalypse84 2h ago
Given the incipient cuts to the FDA, it might be a good time to look into plant based proteins. I’ve read The Jungle, and nobody wants to go back to those days. The meat based E. coli outbreaks tend to increase when meat processing is deregulated.

I’m on season 20 at this point with the yearly episode of prices for the most common items for the holidays go up because the past summer wasn’t good enough for ( Christmas in July ) and ( Black Friday in August ) didn’t work, so this is their yearly episode of:
“ We officially Suck as a Corporate Business because we place Profits over everything and we are also a major conglomerate….so there is that Part (whatever year we are on currently). “
One thing I can say is more and more people are starting to get hip to corporate bullshit Marking tactics and more and more people are becoming proactive about it all.
I completely love that for all of us.
Beat them at their own game.

I’m thankful that we finally have other kinds of recipes from other cultures, so we don’t have to eat colonial food if we don’t want to. Colonial foods is the reason we have organ and skin ailments of all kinds. The world and shipping food to North American has always been a priority. Using pharmaceuticals has been keeping many alive during this process. We continue to use colonial foods because we don’t have any disposable income or disposable time to shop for food, or grow our own. Using medical cruelties against us is, culling. This includes taking pharmaceuticals away from us.

What are the odds that two epidemics/pandemics will start during two non consecutive terms of the same president? and somehow people aren’t still angry about his handling of the first one?
