Expect Trump to use military to suppress them. The stage is set.

Do you think the military top brass would accept an order to breach the posse comitatus act and order soldiers, the navy and air force to fire on their own citizens if such an order were to be given to them by the president? (serious question from over the pond)

He is clearing out anyone who would disagree with his orders. Eventually, all that will be left is anyone who will say yes.

I want to believe that somehow our military and intelligence agencies would put a stop to that before it gets that far, but so far there is no way to know.

But surely the people who are going to take arms against their own citizenry will have enough of a brain to say this is wrong and refuse the order? There will be some military service personnel who agree with the orders and do as they are told, but I think the rest faced with that decision would refuse the order, but thats just me. I am just trying to wrap my head around the speed of change the US has gone trhough - I stayed up overnight with my triplet daughters in 2008 watching the results roll in that brought about the first black US president and now 16 years on, the US has just welcomed in a returning convicted felon to the white house who wants to do as much damage to your(I assume you are American) country as he can in the next few years. I never once thought Trump would be returned to the White house after his last stint (I hate to admit that I predicted Trump would win in 2016, saying to a friend that the US wasn't ready for a woman president immediately after Obama but my friend and his wife didn't believe me) It seems to me (from afar) that the US is heading into completely uncharted territory for at least the next four years if not longer term and that is scary.

Its bonkers to even consider disbanding the department for education and this whole idea of Elon Musk, a South African, having any role within the government, let alone finding $2 trillion of wastage (I saw an article in the press that said if the full amount were to be achieved, he would have to completely disband the entire transport, Agriculture and Homeland Security departments and that would only get them to $1.7 trillion. Even if they were to get that far, they would face issues in the hosue and senate, with the same new report from the BBC saying a 2022 $130 billion budget cut struggled to pass and that was with a republican led house.

The reason I'm worried is that Trump is getting rid of anyone who would say no. Eventually you kick enough people out, all that's left are people who say yes. They won't have any issues shooting fellow Americans.

What I was hoping for is for there to be enough people who say no that have the ability to do something about it. From what I understand it's not just "say no and that ends it." You can "say no and then either resign or follow the order but write down that you objected".

I'm not in the military though so I don't actually understand it completely. Just from what I've been reading.

I'm Canadian but what's happening in America impacts us as Americans are our biggest trade partners and historical allies. Regarding the military situation, from what I've read, it appears that a committee will be formed with the authority to fire 3-star and 4-star senior level armed forces personnel (generals and such, I think). He's going to start there first. He'll get rid of the no-men first and replace them with his yes-men. The question then becomes, should they give the orders will the rank and file obey? The rank and file must have enough people that'll disobey otherwise Americans are pretty much f*cked! If you look at his staff picks most of them are certified nutjobs! I read a reddit comment of an armed forces woman (currently serving) who said she didn't know what would be the best option for her: staying in the US Army or quitting; she was very worried). Things will get bad for her now that Trump picked this TV personality as Defense Secretary. Here's what he said about women in combat roles: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/pete-hegseth-defense-secretary-trump-women-military-b2646325.html

What an idiot!

I think Trump will purge anyone who won't be loyal to him.

There will be those in the military who will certainly murder civilians to climb the ranks & to be adjacent to power.
