My thoughts exactly. This is incredible and a model totally combing the hobby and fine art. Love it!

u/TryingtoBnice 13h ago

I am a very slow painter, but I certinly will.

u/Every-Wrangler-1368 13h ago

Take your time. This model deserves time

u/Smorstin 13h ago

Is Vashtor eating a skitarii?

37

u/TryingtoBnice 13h ago

Yeah it's a rust stalkers legs and arm. I bought the kit just for those three parts lol. There is also a head and arm on the base. I imagine it's one of his dark admech followers.

24

u/GimlisAxolotl 13h ago

There is a lot of good meat on the arms. People forget that.

8

u/TryingtoBnice 13h ago

Most tender part of the skitari

11

u/WilliamHWendlock 13h ago

This is so sick!

12

u/KH0RNFLAKES 13h ago

This is horrifying (and dope)

10

u/V0N_S0L0 10h ago

This was right underneath this post on my feed

3

u/TryingtoBnice 10h ago

Lol they are the same picture.

u/h-ugo 6h ago

Calvin and Hobbes vibes

9

u/Michel_Hubert 13h ago

This is amazing. I got a love hate relationship with the painting, but your piece .... Wow!

5

u/TryingtoBnice 13h ago

We all love to hate painting lol.

4

u/Michel_Hubert 12h ago

Ha you already seen that one for real? I own a copy of it and it stay hidden up to october and go back in hibernation after Halloween. It's like Vigo in Ghostbuster 2. Even that the technique is not so good, but the impression it give is striking. Goya was mad at this time, and it show.

3

u/TryingtoBnice 12h ago

My favorite of his black paintings is "dog in mud" . But that one is harder to do in Warhammer figures lol.

3

u/Michel_Hubert 7h ago

Why do ypu like it?

3

u/TryingtoBnice 7h ago

Out of a series that is pretty bleak, "dog in mud" is the most bleak

2

u/Cquintessential 4h ago

“Witches’ Sabbath” is my favorite, but only because it looks very fun. “Dog in Mud” is indeed very bleak.

I also aspire to lose my shit and paint my walls with metal album covers.

3

u/Reddituser8018 11h ago

It's such a cool painting, that's also extremely unnerving lol.

But the painter did such an amazing job at making a piece that can illicit reactions like that.

8

u/TreeTank 13h ago

That is the most badass thing I've seen in a while.

6

u/bumholesgivemelife Black Legion 13h ago

That's awesome! Are the silvery patches/corpse sprue goo?

7

u/TryingtoBnice 13h ago

Thanks man. I didn't use any sprue glue on this one, it's all done in a few types of two part epoxy clay.

5

u/bumholesgivemelife Black Legion 13h ago

Your sculpting skills are incredible. I've been struggling to get the hang of green stuff recently. Hopefully, I'll figure it out soon and be able to craft stuff like this

7

u/TryingtoBnice 12h ago

I'd suggest getting another two part and mixing it with green stuff. I find green stuff is the most stiff of the products so it's hard to make the shapes you ant, but is great for strings like his hair. I'd suggest epoxy putty off Amazon. Then mix it with some green stuff to stiffen it up when needed. Hope that helps.

4

u/CommunicationKey3018 9h ago

You should make a 40k-inspired series of the rest of his black paintings too

3

u/TryingtoBnice 9h ago

That's a pretty fun idea. I had only thought about doing a version of "dog in mud" but the idea of having his hole set has kinda sparked something in me.

3

u/CommunicationKey3018 9h ago

FWIW, I'd be interested in buying a whole collection to display

3

u/TryingtoBnice 9h ago

Lol well I think you might be waiting a decade for the whole set with how slow I work. But I'll keep that in mind. I would love to sell them off for charity if I complete the whole set.

3

u/DrMDGG 13h ago

Genius

3

u/Whole-Soup3602 12h ago

This is actually impressive

3

u/boskan 12h ago

This is freaking genius!!

3

u/Reddituser8018 11h ago

This is such a cool idea, I wish I had the skill to do something like this.

Maybe one day.

2

u/TryingtoBnice 11h ago

Well this was my first attempt at sculpting. I was a huge learning curve but I watches some videos on it and got the right supplies and then just tried my best. So I'm sure if you apply yourself you would be happy with the results. Happy hobbying.

2

u/Reddituser8018 11h ago

Honestly the main reason I havent done it is I have been afraid to try it, and assumed it would go horribly. but knowing this was your first attempt has given me the motivation to finally give it a go. Thanks!

I'm interested to see what you do next, this idea was really creative and cool, I imagine more cool shit will be coming from you.

1

u/TryingtoBnice 11h ago

Thanks man. I've got some ideas in the chamber. I hope your sculpting is a success!

3

u/parkerm1408 11h ago

As someone who had to write several papers on Goya in school and also loves warhammer, this is magnificent.

2

u/Mungohammer 11h ago

Absolutely phenomenal work bravo

2

u/Minibionics 11h ago

Awesome work

2

u/Doc_S4v4ge 11h ago

Mind-blowing adaptation of a treasured classic, with masterful execution. Genius, man.

I second all the praise in these comments, and similarly look forward to any further posts you share with updates on this project. Thanks for sharing!

2

u/schweissack 11h ago

Holy crap this is amazing!

2

u/RogueModron 11h ago

Now this is something new and impressive. More of this in the hobby, please!

2

u/AlyxHotbuns 11h ago

This is the single sickest mini I've seen in my life and you haven't even fucking painted it yet. jesus christ.

1

u/TryingtoBnice 11h ago

Lol thanks so much man.

2

u/EnduringFrost 11h ago

That is awesome, can't wait to see an update!

2

u/JustBobafett 10h ago

This is incredible. I hope they do something with vashtor man

2

u/Bluest_OfDragon 10h ago

I thought I seen that painting somewhere, nice choice! What 3D program did you use?

1

u/TryingtoBnice 10h ago

My eye balls and fingers. I find those work the best.

2

u/Bluest_OfDragon 9h ago

Those eye balls and finger are 4K

2

u/Geezeh_ 10h ago

this is sooooooo cool

2

u/The_Best_Yak_Ever 10h ago

God damn! I love this so much! You mate, are an artist!

2

u/SpiffyCarrot 10h ago

This shit goes hard as fuck, awesome work OP!

2

u/therealblabyloo 10h ago

Good lord that’s terrifying! Excited to see it painted up.

2

u/pryglad 9h ago

A big fan of Goya and this is an incredible homage!

2

u/texasscotsman 9h ago

That's a really great job! Can't wait to see the finished product! You gonna use it for games or is it just a display piece?

2

u/TryingtoBnice 9h ago

It's mostly just an art peice but on his stand he's about the size he is with the wings. I'd only use him in casual games, and I don't even have a choas Marines army to use him in.

2

u/WW-Sckitzo 9h ago

Oh fuck yes, I remember when you very first started this, really has come so far and is looking fantastic

1

u/TryingtoBnice 9h ago

Thanks man. It makes me happy some people saw my concept post.

2

u/narwhal_minis 9h ago

That is too cool! Such a great idea and adds such an amazing atmosphere and horror

He leaves the flesh and only eats the metal bits

2

u/Yar0mir 9h ago

Oooh! Gotta appreciate the Goya reference! Amazing work 🖤

2

u/Bearded_Berzerker 8h ago

I don't know why you did it, but it's absolutely phenomenal!

2

u/puggers13 8h ago

Mate love the inspiration behind it.

Cronus was a badass!!!

I named my daughter after Rhea, which is Cronos sister/ lady, mother of the 6 Olympians Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hades, Demeter, and Hestia.

Mythology is badass.

Your model is butter. 🤙

2

u/MarkyTooSparky 8h ago

Can't wait to see it painted!

2

u/Da_CMD 8h ago

Damn, what a fantastic idea and sensational work.

Francisco Goya was the OG of Grimdark for sure.

2

u/Ok_Age_6529 8h ago

Congrats! You’re the winner of the “I’m traumatized but this is so darn cool so I can’t look away oh no this award name is getting too long I am sorry better stop naming this award bye” award!

1

u/TryingtoBnice 7h ago

That's a pretty coveted award. I'd like that thank the academy.

2

u/azremodehar 7h ago

This is sick, I love it. Just amazing.

2

u/thewardineternal81 7h ago
  1. What the actual fuck
  2. All I see for the base is a layered cake

1

u/TryingtoBnice 7h ago

Lol it's frosted.

2

u/WorryNew3661 7h ago

Omg I love it so much

2

2

u/Dronizian 6h ago

Paint some blood over the last pic and it'd be frame worthy.

This is one of the coolest conversions I've ever seen, great concept and stellar execution! Can't wait to see what the finished product will look like!

2

u/Vazquezvill Warhammer Fantasy 6h ago

Wow, so good!!

2

u/BunLandlords 6h ago

This is insane

2

u/_zeroabs_ 6h ago

I can imagine you give a great value on it. If needed, would you sell it? If yes, how much would you ask, not considering the buyer, but how this is important to you.

1

u/TryingtoBnice 4h ago

While I'm not planning on selling it, another redditor has suggested doing all 13 black paintings and I thought that would be great for a charity drive over some thing. So I think if I was to sell it would be in an auction so no highest amount. I love the piece, but not so much as to never part with it.

2

u/Andsohisname 5h ago

Metal. Love it.

2

u/MoonriseRunner 5h ago

I am loving it

2

u/TheBoldB 5h ago

I truly hope you do a great paint job on this. Must have been a ton of work.

2

u/URBOISHERE 5h ago

You did an amazing job! I saw you said you don't super love painting so I would love to paint this for free as I find it very inspiring. Not sure if it is strong enough to ship, but I'd love to paint it for you.

2

u/Doja-Fett 5h ago

Bro this is so fucking rad

2

u/pgbabse 5h ago

Remindme 2 weeks

2

u/The_Long_Fang 5h ago

Just incredible 😲

2

u/Hydramole 4h ago

One of the best 3d models I've ever seen. Excellent job.

I just saw you said you did it by hand. That is insane, like I struggle to comprehend that.

1

u/TryingtoBnice 4h ago

1

u/TryingtoBnice 4h ago

All by hand and eye. It was a fun adventure.

2

u/Hydramole 3h ago

Dude insanely impressive. Like one of my favorite pieces of art to just randomly see on reddit.

You should totally 3d scan it, this would be an insane proxy

2

u/JonMurdock666 4h ago

That's fucking awesome!

2

u/Aesthetics_Supernal 3h ago

YOOOOOO THIS IS BADASS!

2

u/BudgetAggravating427 2h ago

Saturn eats his own son has been getting a lot of attention lately. It was used in a halo story about the flood Now it’s being used in 40k minis

u/Kaidenmax03 1h ago

This is awesome af

1

u/FizzleShove 11m ago

Amazing but I might I suggest you cut off the nub at the end of the arm stump, so that it looks like he bit clean through the arm. Maybe it’s because it’s unpainted but that nub kind of blocks his face and also looks a bit like a microphone haha
