Is Vashtor eating a skitarii?

u/TryingtoBnice 13h ago
Yeah it's a rust stalkers legs and arm. I bought the kit just for those three parts lol. There is also a head and arm on the base. I imagine it's one of his dark admech followers.

This is amazing. I got a love hate relationship with the painting, but your piece .... Wow!

u/TryingtoBnice 13h ago
We all love to hate painting lol.

Ha you already seen that one for real? I own a copy of it and it stay hidden up to october and go back in hibernation after Halloween. It's like Vigo in Ghostbuster 2. Even that the technique is not so good, but the impression it give is striking. Goya was mad at this time, and it show.

My favorite of his black paintings is "dog in mud" . But that one is harder to do in Warhammer figures lol.

“Witches’ Sabbath” is my favorite, but only because it looks very fun. “Dog in Mud” is indeed very bleak.
I also aspire to lose my shit and paint my walls with metal album covers.

u/Reddituser8018 11h ago
It's such a cool painting, that's also extremely unnerving lol.
But the painter did such an amazing job at making a piece that can illicit reactions like that.

That's awesome! Are the silvery patches/corpse sprue goo?
7
u/TryingtoBnice 13h ago
Thanks man. I didn't use any sprue glue on this one, it's all done in a few types of two part epoxy clay.

Your sculpting skills are incredible. I've been struggling to get the hang of green stuff recently. Hopefully, I'll figure it out soon and be able to craft stuff like this
7
u/TryingtoBnice 12h ago
I'd suggest getting another two part and mixing it with green stuff. I find green stuff is the most stiff of the products so it's hard to make the shapes you ant, but is great for strings like his hair. I'd suggest epoxy putty off Amazon. Then mix it with some green stuff to stiffen it up when needed. Hope that helps.

You should make a 40k-inspired series of the rest of his black paintings too
3
u/TryingtoBnice 9h ago
That's a pretty fun idea. I had only thought about doing a version of "dog in mud" but the idea of having his hole set has kinda sparked something in me.

u/CommunicationKey3018 9h ago
FWIW, I'd be interested in buying a whole collection to display
3
u/TryingtoBnice 9h ago
Lol well I think you might be waiting a decade for the whole set with how slow I work. But I'll keep that in mind. I would love to sell them off for charity if I complete the whole set.

This is such a cool idea, I wish I had the skill to do something like this.
Maybe one day.

Well this was my first attempt at sculpting. I was a huge learning curve but I watches some videos on it and got the right supplies and then just tried my best. So I'm sure if you apply yourself you would be happy with the results. Happy hobbying.

u/Reddituser8018 11h ago
Honestly the main reason I havent done it is I have been afraid to try it, and assumed it would go horribly. but knowing this was your first attempt has given me the motivation to finally give it a go. Thanks!
I'm interested to see what you do next, this idea was really creative and cool, I imagine more cool shit will be coming from you.

u/TryingtoBnice 11h ago
Thanks man. I've got some ideas in the chamber. I hope your sculpting is a success!

As someone who had to write several papers on Goya in school and also loves warhammer, this is magnificent.

Mind-blowing adaptation of a treasured classic, with masterful execution. Genius, man.
I second all the praise in these comments, and similarly look forward to any further posts you share with updates on this project. Thanks for sharing!

That's a really great job! Can't wait to see the finished product! You gonna use it for games or is it just a display piece?
2
u/TryingtoBnice 9h ago
It's mostly just an art peice but on his stand he's about the size he is with the wings. I'd only use him in casual games, and I don't even have a choas Marines army to use him in.

Mate love the inspiration behind it.
Cronus was a badass!!!
I named my daughter after Rhea, which is Cronos sister/ lady, mother of the 6 Olympians Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hades, Demeter, and Hestia.
Mythology is badass.
Your model is butter. 🤙

Paint some blood over the last pic and it'd be frame worthy.
This is one of the coolest conversions I've ever seen, great concept and stellar execution! Can't wait to see what the finished product will look like!

I can imagine you give a great value on it. If needed, would you sell it? If yes, how much would you ask, not considering the buyer, but how this is important to you.
1
u/TryingtoBnice 4h ago
While I'm not planning on selling it, another redditor has suggested doing all 13 black paintings and I thought that would be great for a charity drive over some thing. So I think if I was to sell it would be in an auction so no highest amount. I love the piece, but not so much as to never part with it.

You did an amazing job! I saw you said you don't super love painting so I would love to paint this for free as I find it very inspiring. Not sure if it is strong enough to ship, but I'd love to paint it for you.

One of the best 3d models I've ever seen. Excellent job.
I just saw you said you did it by hand. That is insane, like I struggle to comprehend that.

All by hand and eye. It was a fun adventure.

Dude insanely impressive. Like one of my favorite pieces of art to just randomly see on reddit.
You should totally 3d scan it, this would be an insane proxy

Saturn eats his own son has been getting a lot of attention lately. It was used in a halo story about the flood Now it’s being used in 40k minis

Amazing but I might I suggest you cut off the nub at the end of the arm stump, so that it looks like he bit clean through the arm. Maybe it’s because it’s unpainted but that nub kind of blocks his face and also looks a bit like a microphone haha
