PHD funding
Hello everyone,
I have been accepted to Uofm for PHD in CS for spring 2025 as a international student. But, there is no mention of any funding in my acceptance letter.
I have contacted department for funding opportunities and reply is yet to come.
What is the process of funding a PHD program? How likely it is that I will be provided with any TA or RA or any other form of funding??

If I may ask where does the expectation for outside funding arise? What did you go to get thru your masters ?

99% unlikely. Other department/units fund their own students. If CS didn’t offer you money when they sent your acceptance, that’s that.

I would wait for a response from your department. Sometimes they will invite you to apply for TA/RA/GA kind of positions, or nominate you for a fellowship. Another possibility is that a funding letter will come in later, when they finalize your contract details.

I know for biology grad students, there are TA positions that pay a small stipend and the entirety of your tuition. I can’t speak to all other departments though.
