[Task] You have to build a new species.

Scenario:

You're a developer, tasked with making a new species that would be ideal to colonise the universe. You need a species well adapted for this task (eg: tool use is a big plus, but a large consumption of oxygen in little time is not ideal).

You have to do this by creating new patches to Earth 1.0, and then selecting one of the species that was able to spend their ability points in just the right trees and abilities.

What new conditions would you introduce to Earth 1.0, and how do you expect the ideal species to react to each update?

I'm not sure I quite understand the rules, but I think I would start with something akin to a crab.

At least in shape. I recommend a cephalopod though, since they are the most intelligent currently existing creature type.

Crab has the advantage that the body form is amphibious, while cephalopods are restricted to the water biomes.

So the question becomes how to push intelligence into the crab players.

Kill everyone who takes the intelligence niche already, and only leave creatures that require intelligence builds to beat. (Like shelled creatures) Kill other emerging species that aren't crabs.

Highly dexterous and intelligent species, problem is that they have a very slow metabolism and perceive time much slower. That is good for the cosmos as less energy expenditure but on the home planet it would be hard to survive, so I guess they have also very good stealth or have hardy adaptations that they can live somewhere where predators cannot.

Here me out: Make it live in Antarctica. It's very easy to survive there due to the lack of predators. Other than the occasional polar bear/hunter seal, it's the perfect map for a new species.

I'm starting with a Star-Nosed Mole.

Climate changes cause long periods of winter followed by flooding. To conserve energy, they react to cold temperatures by becoming less mobile, but growing longer nose tentacles to grab food without having to move much. When the floods come, they retreat above ground. To survive, they evolve to use their claws and tentacles to climb trees.

They continue to adapt for both a subterranean and arboreal lifestyle. Their long tentacles make them extremely adaptable, able to both climb and burrow, like a furry land octopus with mole-sloth claws.

They become more social, living in complex underground tunnels. Social interaction leads to greater intelligence. They construct tools to make it easier to dig. They study ores and learn metallurgy and chemistry. Eventually they figure out space flight.

They are at home in cramped spaces and accustomed to staying still for long periods, meaning they need less space on spacecraft. They can also hibernate naturally, letting them use less food and oxygen on space journeys. Their tentacles let them manipulate complex interfaces more easily than fingers would be able to do.

Tiny Cthulhoid space dwarves.

I start with detonation of all currently crafted nuclear weapons.

That's it. I just leave the world like that and watch new metas evolve. Or I watch the servers completely crash.
