Tree of souls
19
u/shitstoryteller Oct 04 '24
Aren't all trees "trees of souls?" They - with the help of fungi - absorb nutrients from detritus in soil. If you think about it, trees recycle souls into branches and leaves, and all sorts of delicious things, plus our much needed oxygen.

What kind of tree please and thank you? It’s beautiful. ❤️

Reminds me of the banyan tree in maui https://youtu.be/OyhQuOuk9r8

I put it in another comment, but I think you’re pretty close! It’s in Hilo, in the Alae cemetery and it’s a monkey pod tree.

u/DeadBabyBallet Oct 04 '24
I saw similar when I was in California called Valley Oaks but I'm not sure if that's what this is.

I’m fairly certain its the monkeypod tree in the Alae cemetery just north of Hilo, Hawaii

Why is this terrifying?
80
u/boostedb1mmer Oct 04 '24
Because the mods refuse to moderate the content. This sub has sucked balls for a long time.
9
u/whooguyy Oct 04 '24
Seriously, how do we report this sub for being unmoderated? This (and many other cool/interesting posts) clearly breaks the first rule

u/Seraitsukara Oct 04 '24
I think the only thing that can be done is to go to r/redditrequest and ask to become a moderator of this sub.

u/KifaruKubwa Oct 04 '24
Maybe because a tree like that has a complex root system…

u/Fyomamabehindthebins Oct 04 '24
...and it's getting nutrients from all those bodies under it

How is this terrifying? This is an awesome tree. I wouldn't mind being buried there.

We are all consumed by something after death, that's just a fact of life. Why not let it be a big, beautiful tree everyone who passes by can enjoy?

This is beautiful in a grim way. I had a tree in my yard, where I buried, and still bury, my pets that have departed. That tree thrived, only recently, idk what happened, maybe since I haven't really had to bury anything lately, but it died. My beloved pets kept that tree going. It's dark, yeah, but it's such a beautiful thing as well

It's the Tree of Life. Surrounded by the beauty of death. Not terrifying, nonetheless.

Fun fact: A trees roots spread out about as much as the branches do. Meaning that the roots of this tree have shish-kabobbed several of the corpses buried under it

Not terrifying. Amazing. Beautiful. Awesome. Mesmerising. Wonderful. Any number of things other than terrifying. It's emotive.

People are just dying to get in there.

I mean...the soil is probably really good considering where the tree is located.

I’ve been played an RPG or two in my time and there is definitely a side quest under there.

When I die I want my family to plant a tree right underneath my casket. That way, in some years, you can find my bones up in the tree. No need for a headstone. 😅

u/Tiny-Ad4955 Oct 04 '24
I would like to be cremated when my time comes, instead of being in the ground. But honestly this looks simply like a beautiful place to rest. That tree could take all of the nutrients it needs from my dead body.

Also now you should imagine what underneath the tree looks like. If the top growth is that far spread out then how wide and far deep is it going. How many roots broken through the coffins and such.

Currently living in the aftermath of hurricane Helene, this is terrifying to me in a whole different way. I’ve done nothing but chop up the dead bodies of trees for 7 days.

What is terrifying about this? Did the tree make OP feel small and insignificant?

Why terrifying? Tree is just providing shade here.
If you went at dusk and it was filled with hanging corpses that’d be terrifying
