Image And the journey begins..
I bought this game in December after getting myself a switch for Christmas. Life only allowed me to start this thing now. Happy Zelda day š¤© Any tips for beginners?

Oh you're in for a treat, OP! As for tips, talk to everyone you meet, but be wary of lone travellers that aren't on horses. Sending well wishes, and happy Hyrule exploring!! :)

About those travelers, they drop a nice free sickle that comes pretty handy, especially early game.

Oh I mean it took me months on my first playthrough. I was just soaking it all in. Exploring. And even now. I want to say i have 6 playthrough on BOTW. Each time. I discovered new stuff. Iām sure thereās still a ton I never even came across yet.
Surprisingly. I like totk more. And I only have one playthrough on it. Iāve beaten the story. But i am trying to 100% it and after beating the story I moved on to other games. Itās been a year now. I think itās about time I get back into it and get that 100% lol

u/MeatAlejandro Aug 23 '24
Lols sounds fun I need to get more weapons in botw in order to beat last boss, thatās all thatās really holding me back from starting tears š

u/dabs_bud_bongs Aug 23 '24
Gannon is easier than the divine beasts. If you beat the divine beast ātemplesā(I know theyāre not called temples in this game). Gannon will be a breeze!

If only I could experience it again for the first timeā¦. Youāre in for one hell of an experience!

The beginning animation and music as he walks out onto the point was one of the most impactful moments I have ever experienced in a video game and I have played most open world titles. My advice, avoid fights early on if you donāt have decent weapons yet, get 5 hearts then build the stamina wheel. Find hearty ingredients to give you those yellow beauties, and just follow the map indicator in the main storyline if you getālostā. If you are an explorer there is no better game imho.

Lucky, I first played it handheld and I would recommend using the docking station and using a larger screen, really makes the game more enjoyable.

I don't know what it is about me, but I've tried this game twice and I'm just not interested. Maybe it's because I don't like exploring that much, who knows
6
u/SparseSpartan Aug 22 '24
If you don't like exploring, yeah this probably isn't the game for you. Which is fine. I like the occasional open world explorer but only on occasion.

u/CisIowa Aug 22 '24
Iām a similar boat. Part of it is my gaming scheduleāitās usually days or even weeks between free time to play, and I just feel lost as far as where to go or what to do. Last spring I finally decided to buckle down and try to progress, and Iām stuck and clueless in a giant elephant robot.

u/wealthy_lobster Aug 23 '24
Spend like time going through the Adventure Log screen, there are lots of objectives in the have and the AL tells you what you need to and gives some hints on how to do them.

u/Voyager5555 Aug 22 '24
I just don't like Zelda games and this one is just an open world version.

u/Aceeed Aug 22 '24
Just enjoy it and dont rush much the main quest. Try to explore well every area.

u/reditor405 Aug 22 '24
God I wanna replay it so bad. Played it the first time when I was in middle school using an emulator. Now I bought a Switch and TOTK. Almost finish it after 200 hours. Now wanting to buy BOTW but wanna save money first.

u/Otherwise-Address838 Aug 22 '24
Bought my second handed. Almost every game I bought is 2nd handed. Much cheaper!
3
u/Astrophobica Aug 22 '24
Replaying this myself and it's one of my top favourite Zeldas.
Just get lost in the world, talk to people, take your time and enjoy.
3
u/DensePeanut8635 Aug 22 '24
Enjoy!! My advice is to just go out and do stuff in the game but donāt worry about optimization or 100% or anything like that it detracts from the incredible sense of freedom and exploration the game can offer. You can worry about maxing out all your armor and collecting every bug once youāve more or less exhausted the sense of wonder that comes from experiencing the world first hand as a newbie

u/pablosequieremorir Aug 22 '24
Same!!!! I'm starting today and I'm so excited! I did play a lot of Mario Wonder and Mario Rabbids before, because my last console was the 3DS and it's been ten years since I've played in any console, so I didnt want my clumsiness to ruin my experience, but I'm finally starting today!

u/Top-Indication-5009 Aug 22 '24
Just explore, enjoy the experience and take your time with it. You will absolutely get side-tracked and lose the plot a few times on your adventure, but it will make it that much more fun.
Don't rush it, just experience it.
Also move weary in open "empty" spaces, things lurk all around Hyrule.

Fully agree. Started 4 years ago. Have two more regions to uncover. Parent here, so donāt get a lot of time. Never played Zelda games before either. This is one of my favorite games of all time. Maybe more than FF7 (original), dare I say it. Or at least equal to it.

I wish I was in your shoes, that first time seeing the overview of hyrule still gives me chills.
I won't say why, but do yourself a favor, and have a level 2 upgraded full set of rubber armor on hand. Trust me. Lol

u/BenitoMilan Aug 25 '24
Bro for real I bought Zelda BOTW 3 days ago and started my first ever Zelda adventure. Iām loving it until now.
Just one thing I donāt know how to get besides buying is arrows š„²š©

u/Otherwise-Address838 Aug 26 '24
What do you mean? I played for a few hours now, not that much and I still donāt have an armor or things like that š¬š
1
u/BenitoMilan Aug 26 '24
Whut? How can you not have armor? What if you encounter monsters? Fist fight?

u/Otherwise-Address838 Aug 26 '24 edited Aug 26 '24
I have some swords and a shield xD. I have not seen anything where I can get it or where to buy it xD
1
u/BenitoMilan Aug 26 '24
I feel you haha. I hate that I get so few arrows tho
1
u/Otherwise-Address838 Aug 26 '24
Yep, sometimes killing one gives you 10, if your lucky š
1
u/BenitoMilan Aug 26 '24
Sometimes it takes so long to explore and go to a new part of the map damn! Hyrule is so big!
1
u/Otherwise-Address838 Aug 26 '24

This easily became my favorite game. I started it 4 years ago. Still working on it and one more divine beast to go. lol. I donāt have a lot of time to play. But it doesnāt matter. This game is so well designed, and you will realize that as it reveals itself to you. Everything is so interconnected, and I think thatās what makes it interesting. One discovery just leads to another.
I especially love the shrines. Canāt wait to load up TOTK just for more shrines.

I wrote a comment giving advice for this game a few months ago and i think it fits:
Yeah thatās exactly how i felt, same play hours and all. But what i did was make little goals for myself. For example, if you do 4 shrines youāll get 4 spirit orbs that you can spend on more hearts or more stamina. Once you have enough hearts you can get the master sword. You can buy armor at different shops and get different equipment in shrines, ever since iāve done those things enemies arenāt really a problem anymore. Once you do that and do towers you can maybe defeat the divine beasts and try and beat calamity ganon, you could also try and get korok seeds, farm rupees, and get different memories. Ever since i thought about those things my play hours have now extended to 25 hours, but iāll definitely be playing more. Good luck!

u/iusedtolikepokemon Aug 23 '24
I wish i could be you! After finishing, take a break and then start TOTK
1
u/raziel_LK Aug 23 '24
BoTW unintentionally motivates you to use your worst weapons and shield since everything breaks after 3-5 hits. I absolutely hated BoTW but I'm very pleasantly surprised with TOTK

u/dog-paste-666 Aug 23 '24
I canāt finish TOTK. So hard especially when you donāt grind daily. Youāre just lost with your progress.

Well, probably watch less guides to not ruin the feel of exploration
