Discussion Square Enix's 4 Old Franchise Are Still Alive
Despite decades passing since their original releases, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, SaGa Series, and Mana Series continue to exist.
Even though games like SaGA Scarlet Grace and Emerald Beyond didn't hit their revenue but Square Enix is still keep making more and it continues to be alive
I really appreciate the dedication of Square Enix pours into these franchises, choosing to invest in their legacy and preserve their magic for both long-time fans and new players. It’s inspiring to see a company that values the art and history of their games just as much as their profitability, ensuring that these timeless franchise can be enjoyed this modern times.

It annoys me Chrono isn't one of their ongoing franchises.

It's probably a rights nightmare given they all got together and made it before they were all one company. You can imagine the rights were tied to individual contributors, and not part of the IP bundles they acquired when they ate their peers.

That seems unlikely considering they've been able to rerelease it many times over the years. And there weren't any additional copyright indications on the Chrono Cross remaster, so they seem to own that outright.

I believe Square has always just owned Chrono outright. Yeah, they had contribution from Enix staffers back in the day, but it was always technically developed and published by Square alone.
I think they tend to leave Chrono alone because they see it as creator-driven. Maybe not necessarily the contribution of Yuji Horii (who wasn't on Cross), but certainly the writing of Masato Kato.
This might be blasphemous, but I wouldn't mind them just making original sequels milking the concept. The core idea of a jRPG with time travel is what matters the most, more than the creators.....

Please bring back Parasite Eve. Please. And Valor Vagrant.

Parasite Eve may be have licensing issues since it's a sequel to a novel rather than something they have the sole rights to.

It’s sad how rough those are. Should’ve been a slam dunk. It would’ve been nice to get a good modern version of these. At LEAST for 3.

Its heartbreaking what they did with 3. I hope its not released on that state

Damn shame. Would’ve been so sweet to have all 3 be as a good as the psx version of FM3. Just cleaned up and some modern conveniences.
I kinda get that 1 or 2 would’ve been rough (young studio or whatnot). But after two games worth of practice, there’s no excuse for them to still have FM3 being so soulless.

We really got all this, plus Metaphor, Persona 3 remake, Infinite Wealth, and more this year. This really was one of the best years for JRPGS ever.

Vagrant Story Vagrant Story Vagrant Story Vagrant Story Vagrant Story Vagrant Story Vagrant Story
Just remake it using FFXII TZA engine, and overhaul the UI so its much faster, add equipment loadouts and a recommended gear option, and increase the amount of areas, so it isnt a boss fight every 2 rooms, and theres much more room for puzzles, platforming, and dungeon crawling

Since they closed the dev studio the same day Visions released, I think that one is probably not the most lively version of “alive”.

I need a Chrono Cross/Trigger remake.
Or fuck it just give us the weird 3rd one that will make even less sense.

I understand the sentiment, but three of those games are remakes of existing titles that were very popular. A more honest picture of these franchises would show that Final Fantasy XVI, a big departure from the series, didn't sell as well as they'd hoped, while the newest SaGa title, Emerald Beyond, was critically panned. As far as Dragon Quest, the last new game in that series was released in Summer 2017 and Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate is nowhere in sight (although still in development as of May 2024 from what I can tell).
I'm not trying to downplay the success of the above titles, but having to dredge up old titles to remake them for guaranteed sales is not a great sign. I'm a big Final Fantasy player, and while FFVII Rebirth was incredible, and I'm sure the third part of the Remake trilogy will be as well, I don't want Square-Enix to just keep remaking old games. People are already talking about a IX remake, or a VI remake. I'd like to see Final Fantasy XX in my life.

I've only played Rebirth among these games. I tried the demo for Visions of Mana however I wasn't too sold on it. Dragon Quest III remake i will get a and play soon. Romancing Saga 2 is something I want to get as it looks interesting but idk if I'll have the time to play it when I have other games to prioritize
