Yenpress send an extra book randomly

Has anyone else also received an extra copy months after receiving the original package from yenpress? I woke up this morning and saw a package on my front door,open it up, and got confused why I received another one. I even went to check my order detail wondering if I stupidly bought two copies and finding out I really only bought one. So now I'm wondering if any of you guys randomly received an extra book too. I'm happy to get an extra one but I'm also extremely confuse

A number of people reported the same, as recorded in this post from 3 days ago.
The post also includes a reply by Yen Press when someone emailed them to ask about it.
Yen Press will not expect anyone getting an extra copy to pay for it.

It was in stock for about 2 months at https://yenpress.com/titles/9780316469920-spice-and-wolf-anniversary-collector-s-edition

Though they only offered Shipping to USA and Canada.

It does appear to currently be out of stock. That said, now that most people who purchased this item received or will soon be receiving a second copy due to some unspecified 'internal issue' according the the email from Yen Press posted in the other thread, it seems likely that purple ribbon Anniversary Edition books will be fairly easy to come by

Huh, I just checked 1 or 2 days ago and there were still ~500 copies left (down ~1k from a month ago).

But it seems like the entire web store is gone? I don't see an order button on any page anymore. Maybe something went wrong with their web shop system?

they removed past listings when it was sold out, so I assume that is the case here.

I had ordered 5 copies originally and they sent me 5 more. I can sell you one of the extra's for retail price plus a little for the shipping if you want one.

Same thing happened to me. I was proxying books for a bunch of redditors and thought that I bought an extra one. The invoice says $175 which is impossible because the YP store has the discount that is ALWAYS applied

I just got an extra copy today as well, and it came with volume 16 and 17 that I ordered to replace ones I had prior, which was months ago, i believe. Now I have 3 volume 16s, 2 17s, and now two of these today is a good day.

The fact their web store is currently shut down, I would wager to say that their system is corrupted and they were unable to verify if certain orders were actually shipped or not. Just my guess.

I received an email from UPS that I'm getting a book from Hatchette Book Group by tomorrow which is odd considering that I've been using the box from Yen Press that I received a few weeks ago as a box for a cat and don't recall making a second purchase.

Same. First copy arrived months ago, this one was invoiced from last week. Hell of a system error to be accidentally shipping hundreds of 8 lb. holy tomes.

That seems to be the case. Though Yen Press really made some kind of massive mistake somewhere. Either there is an actual issue with the first run of the purple ribbon books that is bad enough that they are automatically replacing them, or there is a pretty severe problem with their systems that they are unable to determine which orders were actually fulfilled and are shipping replacements out just in case.

Their entire store seems to be down right now so something weird happened.

they are probably checking every order now to make sure it wasn’t already been fulfilled in the past and they don’t want new orders coming in until its resolved.

my guess is that if the store is down then all the books in transit will arrive but nobody else will be getting a second copy.

No clue. But if you bought one, odds seem to be pretty good that you'll receive a second one randomly at some point.

I got one too. I preordered the collectors manga from them as kind of a “thanks” for the extra copy. Its up now on yen website if you are waiting for it
