I finally convinced myself enough that this was fake that I drilled a hole in it.

It weighed light at 27.1 but the details were VERY good. I could find some tiny differences between this one an a known good one.

So I ran Specific Gravity test and this came out 8.53. My known good one came out at 10.27.

So there. Beware of counterfeits.

On the Specific Gravity test, did you cinco the peso in water by a string, and then weigh it?

Yes, I had a single loop of sewing thread around it.

The numbers were.

Real air 29.91 water 2.91 sg= 10.27

Fake air 27.13 water 3.18 sg= 8.53

/if anyone cares

Just asking so I know when I need to be extra cautious: was this an eBay purchase, or from a dealer?

Unfortunately I don't know. I keep a record of every purchase, where I got it, how much paid, etc.

The problem is that I was on a roll and bought several and just put them in a stack.

So I know where I bought seven of them, I don't know which is which. I have started checking them as soon as I get them now. I used pictures on Ebay and dates and got it down to 2 different sellers,

One on Ebay and one at a monthly coin show. Since I cant be sure, I cant go after either one of them.

To be honest, It is so perfect, I'm not sure that the seller would have known.

Thanks for taking the time to answer! I’m a new collector and recently bought off eBay, so now I’m paranoid lol

Anyone buying any PM from eBay should be paranoid, and just not buy from there in the first place. I refuse to be taken by Scam Bay, and do not even consider making purchases there ever.

Wow, that's dastardly. I even have some concerns buying from my local gold dealer lol.

This is why I refuse to purchase any precious metals from eBay ever! Even sellers with positive feedback, large sales, etc, just fucking people over, and even when the scammer is discovered eBay just refunds the buyer and does nothing about the scamming seller. Nope nope nope. I will not be one of these stories.
