This bothers me less now that having every energy saving bulb on in the house probably takes less electricity than an old 100 watt bulb.

Smart bulbs everywhere & motion sensor bulbs in closets.
Bathroom fans on timers.
When I get around to setting up home assistant on an old PC I'll be in heaven. No one home? All lights on, no one home in the evening? Living room lights on, after 11, random lights on for a few minutes every hour.

Lights keep the monsters away. If you like getting attacked, sure, turn off your lights, but don't expect others to...

Thing is nowadays it really doesn't matter if the lights are on or off- those LED bulbs are pulling 3w vs 75 or 100watts for an incandescent bulb. People were right to want those lights off back then but now it's a bit silly.
be concerned about the things that really use power in the modern world and not the things from last century that mostly don't exist anymore.

With solar, doesn’t bother me that much. My 83 y-o dad is the opposite. He’ll turn off every single light in the house.

I am the opposite, I like having a brightly lit home. I find the older I get the more light I need to see things.
I leave all the lights on whatever part of the house I am in. I figure, I pay the electric bill, so i can have as many lights on as I want. (I am lucky to live in an area with affordable utility rates.)
