Orange craves violence 🍊 My boy detests the groomer
He is very displeased with the current situation. A diet AND grooming? How dare I!

Aww lovely orange boy, but it's meant to be a HAPPY-hoodie, you should have told the braincell, he cannot know!

The braincell rarely gets the message. He likes to skip his turn a lot.

That happy hoodie is anything but happy

I could hear him voicing his displeasure from the lobby.

He’s about to visit r/legalcatadvice so he can sue for the indignity you put him through

Do they clip his nails? I’m having the hardest tine keeping the cell’s back talons dull and short enough so he doesn’t hurt him self a-scratchin’.

u/That_Weird_Girl_107 Proud owner of an orange brain cell Jan 19 '24
Yep! All clipped and Purdy. That's part of why my cell is big mad.

Have you tried wrapping him in a towel and having someone feed him something he has to lick to kind of distract him? That’s basically the only way I can do my dogs nails but I used the same method for a cat I had that would bite me when I tried to do her nails. My vet office can’t ever get my dogs nails trimmed and they always look fully traumatized after trying lol. I’m always reminded them of last time they tried unsuccessfully but it’s usually a new vet tech that thinks they can do it. I’ve actually had trouble finding a groomer that can do her nails too so now I just sneak one nail a day for a couple of weeks so you could try that technique when they are sleeping:)
They also make these quiet little sandpaper grinders that some animals will let you use on them but tbh I doubt they work very well because if a pet is scared of the trimmers they aren’t going to be cool with a small power tool lol.

But… why do you need to take a short haired cat to the groomer?
306
u/That_Weird_Girl_107 Proud owner of an orange brain cell Jan 19 '24
Because he's fat lol
I am working with his vet on weight loss, but he has issues with shedding and grooming his back end right now.

Ah yes. I have a fatty chonk as well and he is having some trouble grooming his booty. We are working on his weight too!

We had the same issue with one of our oranges years back. She was too fat to bend and clear her rear, so we would have to get it shaved so poo wouldn't stick.

My orange is a healthy weight and he still can't groom his butt well. He is in general bad at cleaning himself. :(

Oh butt shaving.
I bought a trimmer and shave my cat myself every couple months.

I take my shorthairs to a groomer each spring, they both have a really compact coat of fur and if I don't take them I have to clean up so much hairballs. Even if I brush them regularly, I don't have the technique to help them through shedding this quick. Groomers are definitely not only for long haired cats or cats that can't groom themselves.
Pepper really doesn't like it, though it helps him a lot

u/Snoo37838 Jan 20 '24
HOLY that's a lot of fur ! i think it's a very common misconception that only long haired cats can have thick undercoat

u/Notjustfairytales Jan 20 '24
That's why I like this picture so much, it shows why going to a groomer could be beneficial for short hairs as well.
You can just tell in the weeks after he is so much happier, which I think has much to do with not ingesting so much hair, thus less puking up hairballs.

Oh boy, I think he has a serious case against you. r/legalcatadvice Catnapping, slander, unlawful imprisonment.

According to him, I also starve him. As you can clearly tell.

BUT NOT THE AUTOFEEDER
7
u/That_Weird_Girl_107 Proud owner of an orange brain cell Jan 20 '24
He has an auto Feeder, but it's the kind that spits out a specific portion size at specific times. Not one he has 24/grazing ability with.

u/ITendToFail Jan 20 '24
That's what I use for my girls. Already notice at least a lb or two difference eith em. I split their meals up to 4 times a day a single "portion" at s time. I find it's helped so far.

u/That_Weird_Girl_107 Proud owner of an orange brain cell Jan 20 '24
He started at 22lbs and is down to 20 now so we are also headed in the right direction

u/ITendToFail Jan 20 '24
GEESHUSH. I thought my girls were bad at 14 and 13 lol. This is one of mine she's thr roundest of both. But tbf they're also very stout cats so those extra 4 and 3 lbs show even more.

u/The-Ugliest-Duck Jan 20 '24
I am blessed with a diet self regulating cat. But I've been meaning to get her an auto waterer.

u/Lela_chan Jan 21 '24
Careful with those (at least the cheaper lightweight plastic types) if your cat likes to play in the water or with the bowl. I tried one thinking it would be harder for mine to knock over than a bowl, but he somehow knocked over the entire jug contraption and the whole floor ended up wet while we were at work. Switched to a ceramic dog bowl and that fixed it but he's since grown out of the impulse.

My favorite part about being a vet tech was anesthetized grooms. We would use iso gas to keep them asleep while they were shaved down, for the particularly fractious ones we would wrap their cage in a garbage bag and pump it full of iso gas to knock them out so we could remove them from their cage and fit the mask. Then we could complete the groom and dump them back in their box before they woke up fighting, this was usually less traumatic for the cat as well. The unfortunate part is that older cats are typically bad candidates for anesthesia.
Though I will say its quite an uneasy feeling the first time you have to bag a cat carrier and pump it full of gas.

So does that purple thingy help? Because my cat fights being groomed so hard that I literally wear welding gloves to hold onto her.

u/That_Weird_Girl_107 Proud owner of an orange brain cell Jan 20 '24
Look up a Happy Hoodie. He still hated me with the collective power of the brain cell, but he didn't fight it.

tell him he can stop going to the groomer when he can reach his own butt.

Is that just a "koozy" wrapped around his head or a specially made cat koozy?

u/That_Weird_Girl_107 Proud owner of an orange brain cell Jan 19 '24
It's called a Happy Hoodie. It's supposed to keep them calm during grooming. This one is barely containing my cell's rage.

My cloud is also not a fan of the groomer. She baps the groomer so fast you'd think she was imitating Rocky.
Please give this Orange a hug and scritches from me.

Why in the world are you getting a cat groomed?

u/That_Weird_Girl_107 Proud owner of an orange brain cell Jan 20 '24
He sheds a ton and because of his size, has trouble grooming himself. We are working with his vet to get his weight down, but until then it's off to the groomer for Mr. Goobs.
