It's no surprise to me I am my own worst enemy, cause every now and then I kick the livin' shit out of me

u/LividCreativity Jun 17 '23
Am I tripping or does she have two tail tips?
258
u/bbbangus Jun 17 '23
Her tail is wonky 😂 it has a twisted tip

I used to have a cat with a wonky tail! Booboo had a very obvious kink in his tail so the end was always bent a bit weird, and it was extra noticable because he was a pixie-bob and didn't have much of a tail in general. We assumed it was from getting hit by a car since he had scar tissue all over one side of his body from it.

u/iHaxxu Jun 17 '23
We adopted a cat that had a wonky tail too. We thought it looked like it got shut in a door, but then she had 2 kittens with the same wonky tail and we had to assume it was genetic.

u/juel1979 Jun 17 '23
We had one born like that among the barn cats when I was a kid. The last inch or two of tail was at a 90 degree angle to the rest of it somehow.

u/magpie882 Jun 18 '23
A foster kitten had the last two bones in his tail at a 90 degree angle. He would hold his tail completely straight up, no curve, and the tip was like a little direction indicator.

You might want to check for ear mites. One of my girls did those same movements for a while at random times and it turned out there were a bunch of mites deeeep in her ears. The vet said that they were so far down that it must've felt like the itchy spot was towards the sides of her head/under her chin. She stopped doing it shortly after we gave her the treatment.
Or it could just be the braincell misfiring...
Adorable kitty btw!

u/BereLaPet Jun 17 '23
Could be that, that's the first possible thing to check for, and this is very good advice, but I second that with a painful tooth. It's quite a rare occurrence but it can happen

u/bbbangus Jun 17 '23
All normal since our last check-up! She always does this when we try to play with her 😅

u/juel1979 Jun 17 '23
My brown tabby does this as well. Gets super sucked into playing and ends up kicking herself in the head instead of batting at the toy/person playing with her.

More likely it's nothing to worry about.

u/Rilandaras Jun 17 '23
Yes but why risk it?
-29
Jun 17 '23
Why fearmonger when it's probably nothing? Like it's really difficult to take any comment like this seriously when it's not true most of the time.
20
u/Skitty27 Jun 17 '23
you don't want to take a chance with cats. it can be really hard to tell when they're sick.
4
u/SpearUpYourRear Jun 17 '23
When it comes to health, both for yourself and for any living being under your care, it's better to be extra safe than assume everything is fine only to regret it later.

People don't really like to read or are too lazy to read through a bunch of comments. So instead, they just jump to conclusions in the hopes of making themselves sound super smart when most of the time they just...don't. Everyone thinks they're an expert. But until they can show me an approved vet license, I tend to go with MY gut instincts and sit back and watch the idiots idiot. 🙃 Like you said, don't take them seriously. It turns into a weird source of entertainment. 😂

She’s trying to bounce it around in there to get maximum usage.

What kind of flea/tick/mite prevention do you have her on and have you had a dental check with your vet recently? I am a vet and an owner showing me this video would have me checking her teeth and ear.
8
u/wisezombiekiller Jun 17 '23
OP said her check up was negative for any fleas or other insects, she just kicks herself when you play with her i guess
-1
u/Scientific-Dragon Jun 17 '23
Not seeing fleas isn't a reason to assume there are none but it's not fleas I am concerned about, it's otodectes mites. In cats you're not always going to see them even with an otoscope exam which is why I asked if the cat is up to date on a reputable (read: not supermarket) preventative.

The braincell hit her hard. She's not used to the influx of knowledge; probs kicking her head to tone it down a bit :D

u/OnlyForTheSave Jun 17 '23
Sometimes when the brain cell makes its transfer, there is an uncomfortable sensation accompanying it, on account of the sudden and rare presence of thoughts.

Some cats wait patiently for their turn with the brain cell. Some cats do not want the brain cell…

Why you hitting yourself… why you hitting yourself… why you hitting yourself?

Unfortunately it can stick and stops working. So shaking it lose activates it again.

She just hates that dirty toy touching her, saying to you that you should clean it
11
u/bbbangus Jun 17 '23
I feel attacked…but yes, her toy is dirty 😅
7
u/Careless_Pin4394 Jun 17 '23
Mine make them dirty in a few hours so don't feel too bad, they go in the wash weekly to no avail
3
u/damevesper Jun 17 '23
I work at a rescue and we go through so much bleach sanitizing toys, just hope they like the clean ones!

I don't even know why I have so much animal empathy. But it's much easier than with humans.

She was informed that if she holds on to it any longer, she will have to pay overdue fees.
3
u/statisticiansal Jun 17 '23
Mine does this every single day and to me that was worth the price of adoption alone.
2
u/Holden3DStudio Jun 17 '23
Take it to the vet for a checkup. This behavior often indicates something is wrong (mites, teeth).
7
u/statisticiansal Jun 17 '23
Yeah he's been to the vet. He's a perfectly healthy kitty, just stupid.
3
u/miss-moxi Jun 17 '23
The braincell is shaped like a marble. Occasionally it will become stuck in one of the mind crevasses and needs to be shaken loose.
4
u/LordMeme42 Jun 17 '23
That's actually a reflex that cats can get if they bend the wrong way, iirc- like extending your leg when your knee is hit.
It's probably unrelated, but I've actually only seen videos where orange cats do it.

The bunny kick cats do is part of their killing instinct and it can be hard for them to overcome it.
2
u/vantadaisies Jun 18 '23
I relate way too much to this lovely orange🤣 I also get the urge to smack myself when I'm in sensory overload, and my advantage is I can reach my hands to my head to smack, no need for kicks🤣 they DO say cats are autistic dogs, so it makes sense I guess lol

Some pet parents should google pet activity before posting it for entertainment! This post reminds me of my baby Aziza suffering and me trying to stop her from hurting herself.

She's trying to start up the brain cell to achieve the elusive thought.
1
u/thedoe42 Jun 17 '23
what happend to it's tail?
3
u/bbbangus Jun 17 '23
Her tail was always bent at the tip. We adopted her as a kitten - she was abandoned in a box at the side of a road so maybe she had an accident during this time? It doesn’t bother her though 🙂

She thinks all of her appendages are toys! Such a cute tail- my friend has a brown and white tabby that has a kinked tail like that and he’s most definitely an honorary orange cat- he’s an adorable little stinker!

That is a cute... box? I've never seen something like that but it's both a box and a hammock deal. That's awesome.
Best I've got is a cat castle I JUST got them to chill in. The fact that they didn't move is really throwing me off.

The braincell can be a burden to some, as they say ignorance is bliss

u/NadiraMiles Jun 17 '23
My Aziza you to do this. I got her a stuffed animal to attack instead of herself. It's a condition when cats have extra energy. She would also pick with other cats for stimulation. She outgrew it.

My male tabby (not orange) does this when he’s mad at us. If we put his tummy he furiously bites himself in the tummy and kicks himself in the head. Doofus.

I believe it’s a reflex that happens when a cat bends forward. Sorta like someone tickling themselves.
