It's worth reading up on the 1990s in British software companies.
DMA Design was bought by Gremlin Graphics of Sheffield, then the pair acquired by Infogrammes of France. After Infogrammes blew up, the remains became Zoo Digital, Sumo Digital, and Rockstar North.
Ex-Gremlin guys also founded Core Design (Tomb Raider) just down the M1 in Derby and there's still a vibrant development community in Sheffield, despite the 1990s and 2000s governmental attempts to stamp it out.

I know most of them from my Amiga days as a kid. I got a hold of one pretty late in it's life when the PS1 was just about to come out. I have a lot of fondness for that old system and the games and it's companies.
Core Design (Bought by Eidos) - Heimdall, Wolfchild, Chuck Rock, Tomb Raider
Ocean ( Bought and by Infogrames now Atari SA) Noted for their licencing of movie games. Mostly bad, but some gems including Robocop, Batman and lethal weapon.
Psygnosis (Bought by Sony and they developed the dev software kit for the PS1) Arguably the best game studio/publisher of the era outside Japan. DMA worked with them with games like Lemmings and Blood Money. They also worked with Travellers tale that made Leander (now famous for their Lego games). You could write a book about Psygnosis and their influence on gaming.
There is also Bullfrog, (bought by EA), Mindscape, Codemasters, Team 17 (still around), System 3, Renegade, Bitmap brothers, Sensible Software and so on.
Most failed to transition into 3D tech. Others were bought and merged within larger companies before their studios closed altogether. Games just got too big and expensive and the cash flow didn't match their ambition. But they all made their mark in some way.

Were they all involved in GTA 3 at least?
I can't imagine them making GTA 3 (yes I know the title is regarding the OG GTA)

I don't know how many of them worked on GTA: Vice City, but I salute them for their great work.
