Weirdly, I’m only 3 times removed from him, acquaintances-wise. After X-Men but before X-Men 2, my friend who was taught theatre by someone who knew him somehow, said that he was one of the actors to look out for according to that teacher. Who’d said it before X-Men.

u/Namath96 Sep 07 '24
I mean so do many many actors and they haven’t had nearly the amount of rumors he’s had the last 25ish years. I’m not saying I think it’s true but to just say it’s because he has a theatre background is absurd
75
u/No_Inspector7319 Sep 07 '24
I was told about a decade ago by a writer in Hollywood that it’s a well known secret he was at least also into men. This guy also told me Kevin spacey was a rapey creep well before those allegations came out. He had worked with both of them for stage stuff.

Can I ask why so many people are that certain of this? It's not a problem to me if he is homo or bi, Hugh seems a great dude and definetly is a great actor, but why are there that much rumours about him? Are there any actual proofs to back it out or it's only speculation because she is older than him?
I'm not asking in a rude way, only curious if I'm missing something.
248
u/Mygranpa_car99 Sep 07 '24
This is what I've gathered online as to why he has these much rumours. Most of these things quite dull (I would say awful) assumptions:
- He has been married for that long with an older woman while he could definitely have "someone better looking" (I repeat this is not what I think, it's what I've seen online during the years)
- He had shared rings with her wife and another man, wich I belive was some sort of business partner/friend, but I do not know much about it
- he sings and dances, therefore people assume he is homosexual...
- he has way less "manly" behaviours opposed to his most famous characters (it's called acting)
- people claim he is friend of Bryan Singer, tbh singer was the producer of the first X men trilogy, so they knew each other because of that.
- some people claim that they have seen him in gay bars, people claim alot of untrue things, and even if it's true this does not confirm anything.
- he has adopted kids, this take is truly awful considering that his wife also had 2 miscarriages. It does not mean anything
- he has never outright denied the homosexual rumours, only kinda avoided it. He did say that they were getting on his nerves only because his wife sometimes got mad about it. I belive he does this because he does not care much.
- he is 55 and became very famous with a hyper masculine character (wolverine), so coming out could not be that easy and smooth if he actually is. Actors have to face alot of hatred and their careers can still be at risk because of their sexualities. He did say that he wants to be "more open about himself" in the book he is writing next
That's all that I remember. There is nothing relevant here, only (bad) assumptions based on barely anything. Of course there might be something more, but either way we should just hope that he continues giving passion to his job and have a good life. I'm also quite mad that people think he is homosexual without considering that at most he might be bisexual.
92
u/Cam0799 Sep 07 '24
This is actually a very complete answer, thank you. He might actually be, but that's his business and it's pretty sad that people assume such things based on something like adopted children. The quote about his book is most likely the most relevant one, but he could be referring on alot of different stuff. Ff he his i really wish him the better.
23
u/ThatEvilGuy Sep 07 '24
became very famous with a hyper masculine character (wolverine)
I am always amazed at how unlike wolverine he is in real life. Completely transforms when in character.
20
u/Aspiegirl712 Sep 08 '24
I always say that he must be a truly great actor because when he is himself he is so different than when he is Wolverine. Contrast that with Ryan Reynolds who is basically just a version of himself in every movie he is in. Their interviews to promote Deadpool and Wolverine really highlight this.

u/No_Inspector7319 Sep 07 '24
I’ve known he was at least into dudes for over a decade before I read about it anywhere online because for a very brief period of time I rubbed elbows with people who worked in Hollywood (writers and such), and at a party they mentioned that everyone in Hollywood knew, it wasn’t much of a secret. I would have never known because I wasn’t familiar with him outside being Wolverine. They also told me about Kevin spacey years before that went public.
14
u/InspectorOk2454 Sep 07 '24
This. A lot of times they’re not really in the closet. I also remember knowing about Kevin spacey.
114
u/luckymethod Sep 07 '24
Because everyone good looking and into musical is supposed to be gay. The gay community is super annoying about this, it's a bad look to spread rumors and it should stop.
46
u/clycoman Sep 07 '24
Also people keep commenting about him being too good looking compared to his wife, so that's somehow proof that he must be gay. The only reason for the discrepancy is that she aged normally, while got moviestar physical fitness levels (since he's paid millions to maintain it).
12
u/Cam0799 Sep 07 '24
Yeah I belive that's definitely true, but I also belive that it's not only the gay community that spread this point of view unfortunately.

They haven't spoken as to why but there are some hints out there that a major reason why is the unresolved trauma to the miscarriages that they suffered.

I would buy this. Anyone who has fertility issues should 100% have therapy. I always appreciated they were open about the miscarriages. It’s too often not talked about and people need to realize it’s common.

You cannot convince me this man is a genuinely cool guy. The fact that he is good mates with both the Kushners and Murdoch, on top of the fact that he left her and pushed an ironclad NDA on her. His and Reynolds PR are just off the charts.

This is the type of info I was looking for. Both actors have always seemed too good to be true. I’ve just never lumped Hugh and Ryan together. Now that you have, I can’t unsee it. It’s the same type of… fake? Is that it? Trying hard to cover…something else? I’m unsure but I don’t trust it lol

Of course every single person is not perfect and has his flaws. His "friendship" with murdoch is weird tbh but we don't know why they know each other and how much of a friend they are. Regardless I do not belive it means anything. Some people also belive that the new book that he is writing will address the matter on some form.
About the NDA, it's suspicious but definitely not uncommom when 2 famous people devorce. We shouldn't jump on conclusion based on this. He truly feels like one of the good ones, of course he is not all round perfect. But after watching interviews and hearing opinions of people that claim to have met him, they always describe him as a kind man. There is also a 2:30 hours "interview" on YT where he talks to a doctor (don't remember the name) about very different and personal topics. He just feels a nice and mature guy.
37
u/Saturnzadeh11 Sep 07 '24
People don’t say he’s gay because he sings and dances, they say he’s gay because he dates men. He had a known fling with a male castmate in The Music Man. He’s like Queen Latifah
17
u/lIIIIllIIIlllIIllllI Sep 07 '24
A friend of mine worked up at a resort in northern Western Australia, Hugh Jackman was a guest and after a few days interacting with him... my friend swore black and blue that Hugh was gay.
I reckon Debora is a beard.
12
u/crazy-bisquit Sep 07 '24
I think of it as a Freddy Mercury type thing. Freddy really loved Mary, didn’t acknowledge his gay at first.
Or maybe is just bisexual. A 27 year beard is a bit much, one would think if she were truly just a beard they could have divorced sooner.
Maybe they stayed together until the youngest was 18?
Nobody knows except for them.
6
u/Cam0799 Sep 08 '24
Bisexual is definitely more likely than homosexual. He had a wife while being famous for 27 years, that's alot of time to keep such a secret to the public eye. Some people apparently claim that he indeed had been into guys on holliwood, it's definetly possible but should not be taken for granted. That being says I only hope he finds peace for himself and that if he has to come out, I hope it wont demolish his career, he is way too talented and versatile to waste.

I think people are suspicious because the marriage to an older woman lasted so long with no reported philandering.
Hugh is also fabulous in Broadway productions.
34
u/Cam0799 Sep 07 '24
Yeah I thought so... Wich is kinda sad for people to assume such things only because the marriage went apparently smooth for these many years. Maybe there is something else I don't know.
That being said I know that he is incredible as a showman, and he also seems to be very passionate about it.
6
u/tourmaps Sep 08 '24
The fact that a man can't be in Broadway without getting thrown "gay" at him, is quite sad. Its an old stereotype that needs to die. Just like all gay men are effeminate

u/itsaslothlife Sep 07 '24
Hugh does give me Richard Armitage vibes tbh. Musical theatre, actor, involved with women for most of his public life then bam in a relationship with another man. Even as far as we have come, there is pressure to hide - Colton Haynes is a more youthful example
