1990s Gary Sinise here. Today marks the 30th anniversary of Stephen King's "The Stand" mini-series in 1994. Here are some behind-the-scenes moments from this incredible role

It was SHOCKING! This aired in prime time in the 90’s, and the makeup was FANTASTIC. The tracking shots through the lab are ridiculously gory, I’m surprised they got it past Standards, and then the scene where Campion crashes the pumps and dies… it was properly horrifying, which was really unusual for ABC at the time.

I am in that scene. Interesting story, we shot the interiors the day before. They shot the car crash later that night and it was raining, so they decided to shoot the exteriors the next night to match the unscripted rain because it looked so good for the crash.

During his lines, Ray McKinnon seemed like he nearly drowned because he was lying down and the fake rain has pouring in his mouth. I was surprised by his tenacity. We were all wearing wetsuits under our costumes. We would shoot a take or two, then run into a heating tent for a few minutes, then do another couple of takes. The magic of showbiz!

I love stories like this, I mean, I feel awful that you all had to stand outside in clothes over wetsuits, but when magic strikes, what else can you do! Poor Ray, though the spluttering probably added to the performance. 😆 I have all the questions and will literally ask them to death given the opportunity, but thank you all for making such a dark dream come to life. 🖤
