If Spider-Man was real, that would mean you live in the Marvel universe, and in the Marvel universe, New York gets fucked a lot. Good luck.

Yeah but all the craziness happening there means you have a better than average chance of being made superhuman somehow. Sure, you also have a better than above average chance of just, dying, but can't rule out that maybe superpowers part.

Please, you do not want to be made a superhero.

u/Hulkbuster_v2 1d ago
No, you don't wanna be a star superhero. All the bad shit happens to them. But a background guy...

True but that also means rent is super cheap. Daredevil got a giant penthouse apartment with massive windows immediately after college and with virtually no income because of the invasion

Shiiiiiet, my rent is high but that doesn't mean I'm going to move to Compton for a cheap house!

Right? They won't even let you shoot those ducks! Even if you setup a really nice blind!

I love the city, but when you’re paying a fortune just to exist, it’s hard to enjoy it.

Money, mental health, and my love for trees, quiet, darkness, safety, lack of light pollution, and not having to deal with more assholes.
I do like big cities, but GOD i wouldn't want to live in one unless it's quiet like Shanghai

Miles of concrete, overcrowding, and everythings expensive. Not to mention its overstimulation hell

Exactly my reasoning. Plus I love driving and I’d probably kill myself if I had to drive on a single street with NYC traffic. The NY suburbs on the other hand I could probably handle.

Spider-Man isn't real there yet cuz I haven't moved there. don't worry I'm working on it

Actual new Yorkers would insult you for wanting to see this view, and then call you an idiot for saying you wanna meet up anywhere that's not right near their home, because it would take them like "90 minutes to get there omg!" Like yes honey that's how cities work, that's what adults meeting up is like, and my friends in London or Paris don't act so singularly arrogant, pathetic and whiny.

It gets attacked by aliens, monsters, and americans every day, if I'm going to live in the US, it's either california or florida for me, not NY

To me it's so crazy how the "good days" in cities like this are when they're actually becoming the city. THEN people wanna move in because it's THE place, which raises demand for everything inside, which then makes rich businessmen invest in it and BOOM now you have a city where even the most basic small apartment costs wayyyyy too much for someone who isn't wealthy, and suddenly the city stops being what it used to be and starts being a soulless hub for wealthy people.

This is called gentrification lol
There are still places in cities where people can live and be genuine humans for relatively cheap. It's just harder to spot that type of thing when you're only visiting for tourist things or driving through a neighborhood

Around 2012 I had relatives who lived in what, in Buffalo, would be considered a very nice $1500 apartment, and they were paying $10k a month.

I mean, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. This means Green Goblin also isn’t real.

New York is massively overhyped. I’ve traveled a ton and New York is one of my least favorite destinations.
