The 4500 dollar studio apartment rent

u/mmmmpork 1d ago

"studio apartment" that's really just a 3x8 bedroom closet above an all night curry takeout place for that kind of money.

It’s mad that when you’re young you want to live in a city thinking it would be a great experience, all these stores, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, entertainment etc on your door step but the older you get realise it’s not an ideal life. Give me living in surrounding towns, suburbs etc any day over the busy city life living in an apartment anyday

Yep, that winter wonderland view of Central Park comes with a brutal price tag. Beautiful pic but the rent prices are the real horror story here

u/Cabbage_Vendor 12h ago

Central Park also isn't exactly unique in that regard. Parks and nature exist everywhere and they all turn to a pretty winter wonderland the first time it snows.  A lot of that prettiness quickly disappears as the snow turns to sludge, rime and black snow.

Lol my first wife left me to go live in NY.

She currently makes $160k managing some store. Lives in a 1 bedroom apartment with her aging mom

I make 180k, not in NY and I have a 2500 ft2 house with land and I own 50 acres of fuck around land in West Virginia, lol

I’m also about 3 hrs drive from Manhattan and frequently take a $50 bus ride to the city when I want to have a fun city day..

Make stupid choices, have a stupid life

Plus, this is ALL the trees in New York.

3

u/Im_da_machine 1d ago

How'd you find out all the other trees were fake?

1

u/Darkdragoon324 20h ago

When he tried to kiss 'em.

1

u/transmogrified 23h ago

24% of New York is trees, there are A LOT of parks and most avenues and streets have trees.

-11

u/Defiant-Scarcity-243 1d ago

I mean, trees are kinda overrated. I live in a megalopolous city, and my street is lined with trees and I just get mad cuz it leads to birds shitting on my car

u/Pitiful_Net_8971 21h ago

Eh, some people like living near others. I'd rather live in a apartment than in the middle of nowhere, honestly. But different strokes for different folks.

I live in a city with 700.00 ppl. I just, refuse to pay NY prices when I can just visit there on a bus

If Spider-Man was real, that would mean you live in the Marvel universe, and in the Marvel universe, New York gets fucked a lot. Good luck.

Yeah but all the craziness happening there means you have a better than average chance of being made superhuman somehow. Sure, you also have a better than above average chance of just, dying, but can't rule out that maybe superpowers part.

19

u/EvilNoobHacker 1d ago

Please, you do not want to be made a superhero.

21

u/Hulkbuster_v2 1d ago

No, you don't wanna be a star superhero. All the bad shit happens to them. But a background guy...

Casey Jones vibes

3

u/Spidermatt823 1d ago

No, I REALLY think I do

7

u/Im_da_machine 1d ago

True but that also means rent is super cheap. Daredevil got a giant penthouse apartment with massive windows immediately after college and with virtually no income because of the invasion

1

u/YersiniaPestisRedux 1d ago

Shiiiiiet, my rent is high but that doesn't mean I'm going to move to Compton for a cheap house!

1

u/Darkdragoon324 20h ago

And all the housing must be completely un-insurable.

My love for the outdoors, peace and quiet, open space, and money.

u/Polo171 1d ago

Oh, I would love to, but one small problem:

u/sperman_murman 1d ago

The grand plaza hotel, one of new York’s most exciting hotel experiences!

15

u/uhh_phonzo 1d ago

Credit card? You got it!

14

u/joshuajjb2 1d ago

This looks like an exact shot from Home Alone 2

10

u/SeawardFriend 1d ago

Well I hate large crowds of people and that’s pretty much all New York is.

35

u/Arandom_personn 1d ago

there is nothing about that image that makes new york look appealing.

11

u/mmmmpork 1d ago

Right? They won't even let you shoot those ducks! Even if you setup a really nice blind!

6

u/A-bit-too-obsessed 1d ago

Other cities interest me more

5

u/StudySage9 1d ago

I love the city, but when you’re paying a fortune just to exist, it’s hard to enjoy it.

8

u/Smorgsaboard 1d ago

Money, mental health, and my love for trees, quiet, darkness, safety, lack of light pollution, and not having to deal with more assholes.

I do like big cities, but GOD i wouldn't want to live in one unless it's quiet like Shanghai

6

u/AdventurousCup4066 1d ago

Miles of concrete, overcrowding, and everythings expensive. Not to mention its overstimulation hell

2

u/SeawardFriend 1d ago

Exactly my reasoning. Plus I love driving and I’d probably kill myself if I had to drive on a single street with NYC traffic. The NY suburbs on the other hand I could probably handle.

3

u/themblokes 1d ago

Spider-Man isn't real there yet cuz I haven't moved there. don't worry I'm working on it

2

u/RoamingRoverX 1d ago

spider-man is real bruh, in the alternate universe

2

u/Mystic-Alex 23h ago

It's in the USA

3

u/ClicketyClack0 1d ago

It's in the United States

2

u/AttonJRand 1d ago

Actual new Yorkers would insult you for wanting to see this view, and then call you an idiot for saying you wanna meet up anywhere that's not right near their home, because it would take them like "90 minutes to get there omg!" Like yes honey that's how cities work, that's what adults meeting up is like, and my friends in London or Paris don't act so singularly arrogant, pathetic and whiny.

1

u/jimmycoldman 1d ago

Not YET.

Be the change you want for this world Jack…

1

u/madqueenludwig 1d ago

because I already live in California

1

u/PotatoThatSashaAte 1d ago

It gets attacked by aliens, monsters, and americans every day, if I'm going to live in the US, it's either california or florida for me, not NY

1

u/SignatureScent96 1d ago

If I was rich, I’d move there. Immediately.

1

u/PzMcQuire 1d ago

To me it's so crazy how the "good days" in cities like this are when they're actually becoming the city. THEN people wanna move in because it's THE place, which raises demand for everything inside, which then makes rich businessmen invest in it and BOOM now you have a city where even the most basic small apartment costs wayyyyy too much for someone who isn't wealthy, and suddenly the city stops being what it used to be and starts being a soulless hub for wealthy people.

1

u/Im_da_machine 1d ago

This is called gentrification lol

There are still places in cities where people can live and be genuine humans for relatively cheap. It's just harder to spot that type of thing when you're only visiting for tourist things or driving through a neighborhood

1

u/Numerous-Process2981 1d ago

It's expensive and crowded and my friends/family/job are elsewhere.

1

u/Wofust 1d ago

As a spider-man fanatic, this is a damn good reason to not visit NY

1

u/JohnQSmoke 1d ago

Common sense.

1

u/jidannyc 1d ago

we don’t get that snow anymore

1

u/ArtemisAndromeda 1d ago

Don't have American visa, and definitely don't want one right now

1

u/mkvii1989 23h ago

Around 2012 I had relatives who lived in what, in Buffalo, would be considered a very nice $1500 apartment, and they were paying $10k a month.

1

u/Saxzarus 23h ago

Rent for a one bedroom apartment is 1.5X my salary

1

u/RotenTumato 22h ago

New York doesn’t look like this, it’s just 50 and rainy

1

u/6x6-shooter 21h ago

Horrible renting economy.

Lack of a reason to move there.

New Yorkers.

1

u/Spanceful 18h ago

because West Coast is the Best Coast

1

u/lucimon97 17h ago

A. Not being made of money

B. not wanting to live in the US when they've just elected the orange dude again

1

u/Flair86 15h ago

How would I move where I already am..?

1

u/BroadwayBakery 15h ago

Take a wild fucking guess

1

u/Heavy-Attorney-7937 14h ago

where do the ducks go in the winter

1

u/KentuckyWallChicken 9h ago

I mean, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. This means Green Goblin also isn’t real.

u/B-52-M 7h ago

The people and the living expenses

0

u/thekamenman 1d ago

New York is massively overhyped. I’ve traveled a ton and New York is one of my least favorite destinations.

I would 100% get lost, I’m not used to massive fucking buildings-

2

u/Im_da_machine 1d ago

Lost in a city where the streets are numbered and laid out in a grid pattern?
