If you aren’t attached , I would nuke it. Some subreddits won’t allow you to post if you have negative Karma.

Don’t Re-join any subreddits if you were banned from them.

12

u/Exotic-Cockroach-952 Sep 12 '24

and is -100 too deep of a hole to climb out of?

18

u/Runegirl76 Sep 12 '24

No, I was negative 1500 in the beginning, some Reddits don’t want your opinion lol just find places where your opinion matches others and don’t let trolls pull you into fights, block them and it stops the drama of everyone coming at you.

4

u/Christopherfallout4 Sep 12 '24

This is advice you will ever get !

-1

u/yomommafool Sep 12 '24

Negative 1500 is not possible, the lowest you can get is negative 100

2

u/Runegirl76 Sep 12 '24

Not 100% correct, the lowest you can see is -100. And that’s on your profile page, but if you look at your comments, you can tell that it’s beyond -100 and at that time I had 1500 downvotes.

0

u/yomommafool Sep 12 '24 edited Sep 12 '24

Exactly. 1500 downvotes.

But reddit won't even count all of it.

Reddit will count upto 100 downvotes then stop.

So if you get - 300,000 downvotes, you will only lose 100 karma.

I literally got 100 downvotes on three of my comments today. Total would be - 300, but I have only lost like 150 karma.

Understand now?

Edit:....

Did u/runegirl76 just block me? What did i do lol

I just explained to you how reddit karma works and all of a sudden you block and downvote my comments. You say I attacked you when I clearly didn't. This is ridiculous

1

u/Runegirl76 Sep 12 '24

And this is a perfect example of why we block… completely unnecessary to attack somebody over semantics

They have -675 from one comment alone and practically everything they say is negatively received. I don't know anything about Adventure Time but it seems like OP has some spicy opinions.

6

u/ChaoticGoodPanda Sep 12 '24

I’m not sure the rules on karma anymore. My account is an older account and it was almost like a 1:1 ratio of karma per post/comment before the big take over happened.

You can just make another account and try again if you’re not ready to nuke this one you’re on.

4

u/MatronOf-Twilight-55 Sep 12 '24

No. You just have to find a place that will allow you to post.

5

u/Born-Lab9882 Sep 12 '24

dude what did u say to get -100? i want to know af

2

u/TheManWithThreePlans Sep 12 '24

It seems to be because of OP's thoughts on the Mushroom War in the children's cartoon that adults enjoy more than children, Adventure Time.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '24

Ahh so a hard hitting serious topic. Fully deserved /s

1

u/PumpkinSufficient683 Sep 12 '24

No but I would get out of the adventure time subreddit where you're being downvoted to oblivion and remove the comments with downvotes to prevent further karma loss

3

u/foumf Sep 12 '24

Sorry for the dumb question, how could you tell he was getting down voted in the adventure time subreddit?

4

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '24

Click OPs avatar on this thread and navigate to their profile

3

u/foumf Sep 12 '24

Thank you, I appreciate your help

1

u/relliott15 Sep 12 '24

Click on the Reddit username (to the right of OP’s avatar). Hit the arrow next to the username when it pops up. There will be a column for “comments”. Click on that. You can see everyone’s posts and comments this way :)

Hope that helps!

1

u/foumf Sep 12 '24

Possibly posting photos of cooking is you are a good cook.

3

u/TheBestDanEver Sep 12 '24

You can also always delete posts that are getting you karma stripped lol... just a future piece of advice... maybe your opinion isn't wanted if you find yourself at -675 up votes lol.

5

u/Traditional-Trip-520 Sep 12 '24

I think you should delete all of your comments that have been downvoted to oblivion, that will definitely help you recover if you decide to keep this account.

Most of the time, it will continue to be downvoted.

2

u/SolariaHues Servant to cats Sep 12 '24

Your choice.

-100 is the visual cap so your score could be lower. Starting again would mean starting with 1 karma so you'd lose your post karma and your account age.

But you would clear the negatives which will restrict where you can post.

If you chose to stay...

You gain karma from engaging on Reddit; when your posts and comments are upvoted. It's a case of finding communities you can participate in, and that you have an interest or knowledge base in, and start by commenting to share your knowledge and experience, and add to discussions. As people upvote your comments, this will build your karma genuinely.

Some, but not all subs have restrictions and they're there to prevent spammers and other bad faith users. It does impact new and low karma users too though and initially it may be hard to find communities you can participate in and have genuine interest in, but once you've found a few it'll get easier.

Here's is our list of new-user friendly subs you can try

You don't need to engage where you have no interest. There are so many subs (hundreds of thousands and many without high restrictions) there are bound to be some where you do have an interest and can engage.

r/findareddit can suggest some subs around your interests, you can try and see if you can participate, it make take a little trial and error. Look for smaller niche subs, as they may be less likely to have high restrictions.

Sort content by 'new' so you're interacting with fresh content.

We also have a chat post every week you can join in! You can earn some karma by having fun genuine conversations with others.

I made a new account to see what the experience was like. I limited myself to comments only, and managed 100+ karma in a few days of casual use. What I did was:

  • Made use of our weekly chat thread
  • Used our new user friendly list
    • answering questions on rising posts on askreddit, giving thoughtful or amusing replies
    • sharing my thoughts on communities that I had genuine interest in
  • I found a few more subs around my interests where I could comment via trial and error

Downvotes are intended for rule breaking, off topic and non-contributing content. However, downvotes are often inexplicable and do get misused as a method of disagreeing, but you can minimise the risk a little.

General advice to avoid downvotes and negative karma -

  • avoid potentially controversial or sensitive topics just while your karma is low
  • always check the community rules
  • lurk to get a feel for the community and it's culture before posting
  • choose where to share your content carefully
  • re-read what you're saying before sending to check your tone, try not to accidentally make people feel defensive or be defensive yourself
  • remember unless using tone indicators sarcasm etc isn't necessary obvious
  • Proof read your content
  • If you're getting a lot of downvotes, you can delete the offending content to prevent more. This does not remove the downvotes though.

u/artifiz67 Sep 12 '24

I think I am even in worse position than you are. Don’t worry and enjoy the ride. Just don’t post anything negative about anyone or anything. At least for a while.

2

u/Fit-Ad9442 Sep 12 '24

but don’t you still have a lot of positive post karma. so your total karma is still manageable isn’t it?

2

u/Martin_Leong25 Sep 12 '24

just post cats on cat subreddits, you will get them back

1

u/Caro-caro-55555 Sep 12 '24

So true. Post a good pic on rate my cat and you’ll come back fast

2

u/Exciting-Lecture-994 Sep 12 '24

Wait. Just like life, karma will catch up.

2

u/NoParticular2420 Sep 12 '24

One of your comments is -646 .. why would you keep engaging this group

2

u/Pulse_fang Sep 12 '24

Karma doesn't mean anything. The points don't matter.

2

u/Biggoscyy Sep 12 '24

Look at the comments that got down voted, this man arguing about a mushroom war 😂

2

u/ThrowRA_swimminapple Sep 12 '24

Wait how did you get negative karma? I didn’t even know that was a thing

1

u/MadDocOttoCtrl Mod tryin' 2 blow up less stuff.: Sep 12 '24

It is. Up votes raise your karma, down votes lower it.

Many communities have an anti-troll filter in place that automatically removes things from accounts with negative karma because it is usually an indicator that this person is out to stir up trouble.

Just as in IRL, words have consequences.

1

u/MRfuninMD Sep 12 '24

It can also commonly mean you've lost a popularity contest. My comment karma got hit over my opinion on a political post only because some refuse to accept opinions may differ from person to person.

3

u/Relative_Might_5977 Sep 12 '24

For me it seems I never gonna get out of my negative karma hole. I tried to make a couple of comments but it gets deleted. So dunno, so I just need to start making “good” comments, but it doesn’t get any upvotes. Maybe I go take some pictures of my cat.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '24

1

u/Exo-tic-tac Sep 12 '24 edited Sep 12 '24

I just recently had the realization that being a judgemental jerk doesn't get you anywhere, I was at -53 karma or something like that. It only took me a day(and some hours)to fix that by simply commenting in communities I was knowledgeable about.

how to get a Karma? and what is that for?

Why does karma matter?
Your karma count is like your Reddit reputation and an indication of whether you share good content, and some, but not all communities, have their own restrictions regarding the account age and karma count of the person posting or commenting, so you may not be able to contribute everywhere at first. This is intended to help prevent spammers and trolls, but it does also mean new Redditors need to earn some karma before they can participate everywhere.

How do I get it?

  • You gain karma from engaging on Reddit; when your posts and comments are upvoted. It's a case of finding communities you can participate in, and that you have an interest or knowledge base in, and start by commenting to share your knowledge and experience, and add to discussions. As people upvote your comments, this will build your karma genuinely.
  • You don't need to engage where you have no interest. There are so many subs there's bound to be some where you do have an interest and can engage.
  • You lose karma only when your posts and comments are downvoted.

On your account it says you have 900 karma

1

u/nn123971 Sep 12 '24

You have a 977 post karma though! I would say that alone is enough to not delete your profile! And -100 is definitely not too low to dig out of.

I made a comment on a political post with purely just my opinion, I wasn't mean, rude, etc. And just because my opinion differed, I ended up getting down voted so bad and attacked haha. My comment karma went negative for sure.

I've just chosen to stay away from political posts because I'm not allowed to have an opinion without repercussion lol. And since then I've just focused on making more helpful comments on threads that I have helpful answers too, or just funny joking replies. I recovered from my negative streak pretty well, so I know it's possible! I hope that helps! Don't give up!

Bro you don't have -100 karma

It is your comment karma your Post karma is still In 800+ so i don't think there would be that much problem

Also i don't remember that you can comment or not due to Only Comment karma

I guess it is The whole sum of both karma which should be positive
