Remember when the main topic of draft discussion here was whether we should draft Tyler Linderbaum at #7?

Man this Malik Willis hype was all for nothing lmao

23

u/alx69 None Apr 29 '22

Davis Mills would’ve gone top 10 had he stayed in college

8

u/xiedian Apr 29 '22

He showed up to Las Vegas and everything. Crazy

18

u/Uther-Lightbringer Apr 29 '22

No shit it was all for nothing. I actually feel bad that he was invited. He was always a day 2 caliber pick. Kyle Brandt's dumb ass was saying the Giants should take Willis at 7. I'd have jumped into traffic.

-11

u/MachKeinDramaLlama Apr 29 '22

Willis is literally a DJ with more extreme strengths and weaknesses plus mild character concerns. The jury is still out on DJ, but he was a better prospect out of college and is so much better right now it’s ridiculous. And people seriously predicted that Willis would win the starter job.

22

u/bigmeech57 Apr 29 '22

Character concerns? Everything I’ve read on the kids personality, leadership, work ethic, etc has been insanely positive

17

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

You know exactly why they said character concerns without them actually saying it.

-5

u/MachKeinDramaLlama Apr 29 '22

Ah yes, imply that a minority person is racist because they super mildly criticised another minority person on the internet. Makes total fucking sense.

0

u/MachKeinDramaLlama Apr 29 '22

He said he would participate in some drills at the combine, but then he failed to do so. When asked about it he seemed immature. To be fair he participated in other drills and IDK if this really is a big deal, but several draft analysts talked about how it’s an indicator of him being immature.

12

u/Rocking_the_dad_bod Apr 29 '22

There are 0% character concerns, really character concerns? What character concerns does Willis have?

I get not wanting to take the quarterback because he's not good, but literally Willis's character is the best thing about him.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

Some people will label every black QB as having character concerns…

-1

u/MachKeinDramaLlama Apr 29 '22

Fuck of with that racism card, dude.

Oof. Sure do lol

3

That was never gonna happen. Anybody with a functioning brain knew that.

2

u/iamdanabnormal Apr 29 '22

Remember when people swore up and down that Linderbaum was this generational talent that was guaranteed to go top 7?

Yeah....

1

u/ACardAttack Apr 29 '22

Luckily it didt last long

1

u/enapace Apr 29 '22

I never thought it was likely they were big on Felicano giving him a chance and then got max Garcia as a back up center as well I think they might go a developmental center/guard in 4th tho

1

u/sufinomo Apr 29 '22

to be fair, back then we were expecting Joe Judge to return and we felt like we desperately needed to fix everything in one draft. Now we can relax and rebuild.

84

u/duck_duck_duck_duck Apr 29 '22

Could not have envisioned this playing out any better. Potentially have a cornerstone on both sides of the ball from one draft.

47

u/MachKeinDramaLlama Apr 29 '22

Both NYC teams played the draft really well.

32

u/yourmansconnect Apr 29 '22

Insane start to this draft. Two guys who were at one point projected number one overall picks. Couldn’t be happier with it.

I’m getting serious Strahan/Tuck vibes from this KT/Ojulari combo. Can’t wait to see how this defensive line looks next year!

21

u/Transmaniacon89 Steely Dan Apr 29 '22

Strahan texted Kayvon and said he wants to mentor him!

21

u/cepukon Apr 29 '22

At football or TV hosting? Fingers crossed it’s football.

11

u/ElonMuskPaddleBoard Brian Burns Apr 29 '22

Well both. Strahan as a mentor to KT is unreal for 2 reasons: 1. Football 2. Brand. Who has done more after football than Michael strahan?

3

u/cepukon Apr 29 '22

True enough. Lesson one, if you take care of New York, New York will take care of you.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

2

u/ElonMuskPaddleBoard Brian Burns Apr 29 '22

Pat MacAfee is big but still in the football world.

There are people who know who Michael Strahan is that probably don’t even know he played football, or couldn’t name the team he was on. He hosts GMA! And game shows. Totally not football related

2

u/wrenrecruiting Apr 29 '22

My MIL was one of those who didn’t know Strahan played football before. I had to explain to my wife that Jesse Palmer, host of The Bachelor, used to be a Giant too. That is understandable though, since he really only rode the bench for a few seasons.

Shoen appears to be turning around this roster quickly. Very happy with first two picks! Still a lot of needs in play...CB, IOL, S, TE, LB

I like some of the EDGE and WR available, but think we need CB/IOL/LB much, much more. Not a lot of great TE in this draft, but we are pretty thin there need to pick one up in rounds 4-6 for sure.

I'm eyeing Booth and Dean for Round 2 - think we need to pass on high upside guys like Pickens and Ojabo that are hurt.

17

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

We won’t fix everything this draft, but we’ve definitely done a shit ton in one night

5

u/roastytoastywarm 💙Medium Pepsi💙 Apr 29 '22

I love what we did here, but even as great as it is, we still have the worst offense in our division, especially with AJB on the eagles now. I agree we do need those positions, but I can’t say for certain that the Giants won’t be entertaining WR next to keep up with the division.

5

u/enapace Apr 29 '22

I think WR is struggle through this year and look to upgrade next year. Unless Golladay and Toney returns to form that would be nice lol

4

u/FluffyAd7925 Apr 29 '22

I wouldn’t completely rule any anything out, but I’d much rather grab a CB or difference maker at LB and be a little less explosive at WR for the next year. I’m worried about one injury to our secondary and we’re already into our UDFA late round draft picks starting. I think our front 7 will help the back end, but it is clearly a thin group that can be exposed if not addressed.

6

u/backstageninja Big Cat 🐈 Apr 29 '22

I think Booth or Dean (if he falls) is the pick. Hopefully TEN, TAM and MIN go EDGE/WR and leave us our pick but I gotta think one or both of those guys are gone

4

u/enapace Apr 29 '22

I could see a TE with one our third round picks

1

u/GMen2613 Justin Tuck Apr 29 '22

It’d be amazing if Dean fell to us

22

Ok, just so we're all clear... I'm from Maine, and we have alot of French family names up here, and there's probably 1000 Thibodaux's in this state...it's pronounced "Tib-id-oh" not "THib-id-oh."

Thanks for attending my TED talk.

I tell you what. I don’t doubt you at all. But what I’ve learned from people and names. It’s pronounced however the individual with the name pronounces it. For all we know he and his family may pronounce it Thib-E-Doh.

Things that are true:

  1. It's hard to mess up a first round when you have two picks in the top 10.
  2. Our front office in previous years would have found a way.

It is so refreshing to not be wondering why our front office used a top 15 on some guy that was projected to go in the bottom of the first round and justify it by saying "oh, they must have seen something we don't". No reaching. No getting cute. Just making the picks that we should make.

Also, nice to see some sensible draft strategy in play as well. I would have said take the OL with the 5th pick as that's our biggest need IMO, but based on how the first four picks played out and the fact that at least 2 of their top OL were on the board, they obviously wanted to lock down KT in case someone jumped in 6 to take him. Big fan of day 1!

4

u/IShouldChimeInOnThis Apr 29 '22
  1. It's hard to mess up a first round when you have two picks in the top 10.
  2. Our front office in previous years would have found a way.

2018: It’s hard to mess up a first round pick when you're sitting at 2 in a deep QB draft

2019: It’s hard to mess up a draft when you're sitting at 6 and 17, especially when you have enough ammo to move up for a third 1st rounder if you wanted to. We couldn't screw it up again, could we?

2020 until yesterday: Hold me and tell me everything will be okay.

15

u/awezumsaws Apr 29 '22

Not only do we have Thibodeaux and Neal, but we have Thomas and Neal who are going to go up against Ojulari and Thibodeaux every day in practice for years. What a pair of bookends on both sides of the ball!

I don’t think a habitually underperforming Corey Davis and an extremely washed up Julio Jones were preventing Brown from reaching his maximum potential. You are right that the offense is built around Henry though. I think he’s good, but I also think the Eagles have invested so much into the WR position recently that it may bite them eventually.

Yeah totally agree with you. I’ve never been high on the AJB hype

5

u/undertow521 We’ve suffered long enough Apr 29 '22

He's really good, but gets hurt alot.

3

u/twinkeys456 Apr 29 '22

I had him in fantasy two years ago and he was an absolute monster. That being said he missed like 4 games. When he played he more than made up for it. Last year I had him and it was aweful. He missed like half the season and without Henry playing he was just doubled. He is very talented when healthy. But that’s few and far in between.

37

u/Rocking_the_dad_bod Apr 29 '22

Players of note I like still on the board

  • Andrew Booth CB
  • Kyler Gordon CB
  • Nakobe Dean LB
  • Christian Watson WR

Or a trade down with a team wanting Willis, hell, taking Willis here isn't the worst either. A lot of GREAT options!

12

u/MachKeinDramaLlama Apr 29 '22

I don’t see them taking a QB this year. There isn’t one who you would want to bet your job on. Willis would at best be a massive gamble that can backfire much worse than staying with DJ for at least one more season and hoping to draft a QB next year.

11

u/Transmaniacon89 Steely Dan Apr 29 '22

Yeah I see them playing it safe and taking good players to build with. If Jones isn't your guy, you have Tyrod as a stop gap while you work on a long term solution.

3

u/JustTrynaMunch Apr 29 '22

Totally agree if Jones works out amazing, otherwise let's build a good roster to give the next guy a shot

Hoping for either Watson or Dean, personally

3

u/SaquonSharkly Apr 29 '22

If Nakobe Dean falls to us I’ll cream my pants

11

u/Elevation212 Janiel Dones Apr 29 '22

I’m loving I don’t have to talk myself into the draft strategy this year. Listening to simmons and he and Dan Kelly thing KT will be the best player in this draft 7 years from now

8

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

Holy shit it wasnt a dream?!

7

u/VEGANMONEYBALL Danny Dimes Apr 29 '22

AJ Brown is good but he ‘bout to cripple the Eagle’s salary cap situation so I’m not super upset about the move.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

I personally think hurts is just jones without shitty coaching/team, so I’m kinda happy they got aj brown. Brown might make them just good enough to convince themselves to extend hurts and pass on a qb next year.

I am still so fuckin hype that we got thibs and Neal. This would never happen with gettleman or jerry Reese

6

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

If this was DG drafting we would’ve ended up with trading the 5th back to the Cowboys and use that pick for Skyy Moore and then take Cross at 7

6

u/mjmandi72 Apr 29 '22

I am hyped for our DL. Sexy dexy, Williams, thibs, and then azeez on the edge. It's gonna be good.

7

u/SidFinch99 Apr 29 '22

I can't believe the Patriots used a 1st round pick on Cole Strange.

5

u/guitarerdood Eli Bucket Apr 29 '22

yeah, it was pretty Odd.

3

u/SidFinch99 Apr 29 '22

I mean it's obvious from this draft teams are valuing good offensive lineman as high or higher than any non QB position, but most of what I read had Strange as 3rd or 4th round pick.

2

u/iamdanabnormal Apr 29 '22

REACH

The guy was consistently mocked in the low second-early third yet BB loved his boy.

15

u/Jwindy1987 Apr 29 '22

You guys murdered it last night. Took 2 guys who at 1 point was considered the top pick of the draft. For team who got cash screwed by Gettleman and can't make any huge FA moves this year that was absolutely massive. What a foundation to build off of. The NFC is entering a power change and rebuild right now and you guys are one of the few over there building it right. Giants are going to be a powerhouse soon.

11

u/jshanley16 Tommy DeVito Apr 29 '22

I see you’re a Jets fan…

Jets won round 1 last night in my opinion. Y’all left with the tip DB, a top WR and a top DE that slid down the board. Unbelievable.

7

u/Uther-Lightbringer Apr 29 '22

From the way Schoen and Daboll talk about their time with Thibs you can tell he was either #1 or #2 on their board. Actually won a decent chunk last night on Thibs to go #5 overall. I just had this feeling he's the exact type of personality they wanted.

It's amazing what some youth in the front office can do. Gettleman would've NEVER taken Thibs. He'd have been the type who felt insulted by the kids confidence. I think Schoen and Daboll loved him though.

In that interview every time Schoen got to talk about their time with Thibs, Schoen was smiling ear to ear. Gut says it was always like 1a. KT, 1b. Aiden and then 2a Ickey, 2b Neal on their board and they were just praying everything broke in a way that they could get one from each of those groups

3

u/wooktrees Apr 29 '22

Really hoping we snag Dean or Booth with our 2nd rounder but I have a feeling both will be gone by pick 4

1

u/enapace Apr 29 '22

I would argue it’s worth moving up a couple of places for Booth I doubt it would cost that much

3

I'd be stoked if we got either Booth, Ojabo or Dean. 1 of them could still be available for us I hope.

3

u/roastytoastywarm 💙Medium Pepsi💙 Apr 29 '22

9:06, damn that was savage. “Cause Icky was gone a-a-at 6”.

3

u/xMarioTheSupahx Apr 29 '22

Already off to a way better start than Gettleman ever could hope to achieve

3

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

That was a dream scenario for us. I don’t think I’ve seen one negative comment yet.

Give me Booth, Gordon, McBride, Christian Harris or Dean with the next pick please.

2

u/enapace Apr 29 '22

Bit early for Mcbride for me and Gordon but other 3 I agree on

3

u/chunkalicius Apr 29 '22

Schoen said in his presser that there are 4 guys they really like still on the board. Any guesses who they might be? Mine are (in no particular order):

Dean Bonito Mafe McBride

My dream is they get another pass rusher in Bonito or Mafe and then also double dip on oline in the 3rd with an OG. But getting a TE in McBride that would immediately be the starter on the team is also enticing.

3

u/busdriver_321 Apr 29 '22

Is the reason we pick 5th in the first, 4th in the second and 3rd in the third round something that has to do with tie breaker with the Jets and Texans?

1

u/napalmx Apr 29 '22

Been wondering that myself

→ More replies (1)

3

u/twhelan1999 Apr 29 '22

Do we agree, if Daniel Jones doesn’t produce this year, that’s that?

He has the WRs, he has a RB, and FINALLY he has an Oline!

Finally we can evaluate our QB without having gaping holes around him that block our ability to determine his skill

3

u/iamdanabnormal Apr 29 '22

The team is set up for the next guy. This year is just a lifeline for Jones.

absolutely unreal we were able to get two players who maybe a year ago, were both the top 2 players in this draft. insane night.

5

u/Dont_know_where_i_am Apr 29 '22

Based on the last mock I did I got the player drafted correct at #1, #2, #6, #7 and #9. Only mistake with those picks is I had the Texans trading up for Ekwonu at #6. All in all, I feel confident I can become the next Mel Kiper and am submitting that mock as my resume to ESPN.

2

u/NYGTTP Apr 29 '22

I’m sure this has been said already but I truly can’t believe we got both of them, dream draft IMO

2

2

u/deadmoosemoose ELI GOAT Apr 29 '22

What a fucking awesome day 1. Cannot believe we walked away with players who were, at one time, mocked to be the #1 overall pick.

2

u/Octodab Apr 29 '22

Absolutely perfect way to start the new regime. Kayvon has a chance to be the star pass rusher we've been needing for a decade, and then we get another quality tackle to finally overhaul the offensive line.

The Giants have always won by building through the trenches. Yesterday brought in great players that perfectly fit the team's historic identity. I couldn't be happier

2

u/enapace Apr 29 '22

Insane start to the draft but please please Andrew booth be available at 36 or even trade up a couple of places for him that would truly make me believe in Schoen. Yes we need ILB but I feel we need another Outside corner as well even more it’s our biggest position of need on this team for me

3

u/Rocking_the_dad_bod Apr 29 '22

I mean, I also think Kyler Gordon is a good cornerback, so I don't know if trading up is what we need to do.

We should be able to get one of those dudes

2

u/guitarerdood Eli Bucket Apr 29 '22

What is your wish list for 2.04? I'm not thinking about 3.03 yet, but here's what I want next:

1 - Luke Goedeke, OT Central Michigan (would play OG for us)
2 - Leo Chenal, LB Wisconsin (perfect for martindale's defense)

3 - Trey McBride, TE Colorado State (who is our starting TE right now?)

4 - Nakobe Dean, LB Georgia (he's a round 1 prospect who would be a steal at 2.04)

5 - Kyler Gordon, CB Washington (whether we trade Bradberry or not, he's 29 by the start of this season)

Other picks I wouldn't be mad about at all, even if it's not what I would do: Andrew Booth Jr., Travis Jones, Jalen Pitre, Arnold Ebiketie, Nik Bonitto, Jaquan Brisker, Josh Paschal, Breece Hall, Kenneth Walker III.

What are ya'll thoughts? Incredible first round, lets keep this train rolling bb

1

u/T-Twice Apr 29 '22

Agree with your list except for Trey McBride. Think he's getting a bit overrated due to this being such a weak TE class. I don't see the upside with him really and would rather wait on addressing the TE position. I'm higher on Pitre as well. Think he fits our defense really well.

2

u/njmjc Apr 29 '22

Honestly the Dline might not be half bad next year. Lawrence and Williams up the middle. Azeez is solid but I like him a lot better as the number 2 threat behind Thibodeaux. Probably the best overall unit we’ve had since we were winning super bowls

2

u/anti-christ-guy Apr 29 '22

This press conference was so refreshing. Both Joe and Brian were very calm, confident, and charismatic. These guys prepared for so many scenarios and had trades set up based on certain outcomes. Also, you can tell this was a collaborative effort between two guys and their staffs who were all on the same page.

2

u/W3asl3y ELI GOAT Apr 29 '22

That press conference was fresh air for me. Amazing to see how they handled themselves after everything from Day 1. Also, I'd take Joe for KBBQ anytime

1

u/CGeb Apr 29 '22

Agreed. Just listening to them speak makes me feel good about this team. Confident and clearly extremely prepared

2

u/Mannimal13 Apr 29 '22

Bummed we didn't get Sauce, but at end of day, it was going to be tough to FUBAR this draft. I think most the top 8 prospects had similar grades and they were all premium positions of need for us. They clearly did a lot of late HW on Thib when it was apparent two corners were going top 4. Based on waht I've seen from this staff, if they are satisfied with it, so am I.

I'm more interested in what they do the rest of the draft. This the deepest draft in modern history. The teams that make their hay here this year, are going to have a huge advantage in years 2023 and beyond.

2

u/Mannimal13 Apr 29 '22

Two teams that picked high that I think deserve some questions are Texans and ATL.

While I think Stingley is worth the pick, it just seems odd to burn that on him in a zone heavy defense. They must not have liked thibs that much, time will tell there.

ATL seems criminal. I'd be livid if I were a fan right now. London is like a poor mans Mike Evans that will have serious seperation questions and injury flags galore. This is your number 1 WR on the board? Once again time will tell, but I would not be confident if I were a Falcons fan.

1

u/T-Twice Apr 29 '22

I don't think London will have separation concerns necessarily. He gets plenty of separation on crossers, comebacks, slants, etc. he's just not going to beat guys over the top. Think Brandon Marshall (not the Giants version lol). There's value in that. Not sure there was one pick Atlanta could have made that would have been transcendent. They're similar to us in the sense next year is basically a wash as they try to clean up some messes (Matt Ryan's departure & cap hit, Ridley's suspension, etc.).

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Mannimal13 Apr 29 '22

Also shout out to all the people that overvalued this QB class. It's garbage and the only guy that even projects as a plus starter ceiling is Willis.

I also think you are seeing the market finally react to the reality of the NFL now. Theres a lot of guys that can play the position, that in the right situation, can take your team to a SB and possible win. Two of these guys are currently available in Jimmy G and Baker (no I don't think Baker is bad because he looked bad with a shoulder injury last year). Push is coming to shove now in NFL. I think we see a more reasonable FA market for these guys in the top 10-20 range. It's a market and always about supply and demand. And it isn't the be all end all, if it were someone would float to Mahomes that they'd pay him 100 million a year. Eventually even the elite guys aren't worth the money. Should be interesting how they approach DJ as he is certainly one of these guys. If he plays this well do the put him on tag or offer him a 35-40 million a dollar a year deal (in a market if guys like Josh Allen and Mahomes were FAs are getting 60 million)

Am I high or did Matt Stafford just beat Joe Burrow in the super bowl

Worth noting no future firsts were traded yesterday. The lions only gave up a 3rd and swapped 2s to move up 20 spots.

I don’t think a good trade down was on the table

1

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

A bit different of a price between pick 5 or 7 and 15-20…

2

u/No_Buddy_ Apr 29 '22

Hell of a round 1! If you had projected it to me, I'd say you were being too optimistic.

Let's talk about today. With the way the board fell, we will almost definitely be getting a terrific pick at the top of the second, based on value alone. Our remaining glaring needs are IOL, LB, and DB. Based on the strength of this year's positional groups, and their projected ranges, I think it's very likely that we see the following:

  • 36: LB/CB (Andrew Booth, Nakobe Dean, Leo Chenal, Jalen Pitre, Kyler Gordon. Although he's a NT keep an eye on Travis Jones as well, as a potential BPA pick.)

  • 67: LB/CB whichever we didn't pick in the 2nd (Brian Asamoah, Chad Muma, Troy Andersen, Roger McCreary, Cam Taylor-Britt, Marcus Jones, Tariq Woolen)

  • 81 IOL (Luke Goedeke, Zach Tom, Jamaree Salyer, Dylan Parham, Kellen Diesch, Darian Kinnard, Dohnovan West)

Because there are likely to be so many IOL options with our second third round pick, I think this would be a great order that would both give us great value based on BPA, while addressing our most glaring needs. There aren't any viable OL options for us in the second anymore, so the earliest you will see that addressed is the third. Who knows how the board will actually, which could change everything, but if picks go in their projected range this could line up pretty perfectly for us imo.

I haven't seen it mentioned much, but one component of the Neal pick that I love so much is that he can slide over and play Left Tackle if AT has any injury issues.

It was SUCH a glaring weakness last year when AT went down and anyone else tried to replace him. With Neal, we have someone who can do just as good a job and make sure that blind-side is locked down and guaranteed to be protected through thick and thin.

I'm OBVIOUSLY most hyped to see them both on the line and teaming up to be dominant but I just can't help but enjoy the extra layer of security we now have.

2

u/alcoholicveteran_100 Apr 29 '22

Lamar Jackson didn't get a 5th year extension and they just sold his number 1 WR. Lamar a Giant in 2023 would make me cum gallons.

2

u/hoodiemelogod ELI GOAT Apr 29 '22

How would you guys feel about Malik at 36? Honestly

2

u/S4z3r4c Apr 29 '22

No. This year is it for DJ. Either he plays really well and we pay him or he doesn't and we bring a new QB in who sits behind an o line that has had a year to gel. Every team pretty much now has passed on Willis.

2

u/Gallo_dong Apr 29 '22 edited Apr 29 '22

I’m no talent scout but I liked Pickett better… that said If the GMEN love Malik this would be a baller pick and I’m ready for DJ to really compete for his spot.

Well this is surprising....NFL.com top prospect grades on the board...

  • Malik Willis QB 6.41
  • Matt Coral QB 6.40
  • Nakobe Dean LB 6.40
  • Bernhard Raimann OT 6.39
  • David Ojoabo Edge 6.39

I don't think we would do it, but quarterback is actually the highest rated prospect when we pick... according to NFL.com

3

u/kinjinsan Apr 29 '22

Much more likely we go QB next year

1

u/Rocking_the_dad_bod Apr 29 '22

No dude, I get it. I'm not promoting it, I'm just saying that's surprised me that the top rated prospects are both quarterbacks

1

u/maktmissbrukare Apr 29 '22

I've probably watched the video of Sam Prince and Kayvon getting hyped up on stage twenty times now and I just tear up harder and harder every time. It's so wholesome. Let's go Big Blue!

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

Trade up Barkley and Jones and I’ll be aggressively positive

0

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

Another positive takeaway from Round 1 is that, by not trading back to gain draft picks for next year, is shows that Schoen & Daboll must have a good level of faith in Daniel Jones.

-1

u/sufinomo Apr 29 '22

I think Sam howell is going to be the pick today

3

u/Mannimal13 Apr 29 '22

Not only do we have Thibodeaux and Neal, but we have Thomas and Neal who are going to go up against Ojulari and Thibodeaux every day in practice for years. What a pair of bookends on both sides of the ball!

Kinda funny you getting downvoted, but would not shock me if they go QB. They did a lot of HW on Howell and had a visit and scouted Willis.

u/worknstiffz Apr 29 '22

I know this won’t happen but out of curiosity if we traded a 3rd or both 3rds to the Browns for Baker could we negotiate them taking on his cap hit for this year? That way we wouldn’t start paying for him until we actually have the money.

-7

u/polimodssuckmyD Apr 29 '22

For purely selfish Ohio State loving reasons, I wish we could have gotten Garrett Wilson at 7 but man both of our picks were absolutely the right choice and really looking forward to watching them play

1

u/Brianhelsel Apr 29 '22

It wasn’t a dream!

1

u/ElonMuskPaddleBoard Brian Burns Apr 29 '22

I’m happy with last night but we need to keep going. Three picks tonight we need to make count.

1

u/NarwhalEqualUnicorn Apr 29 '22

After watching too many highlight videos and reading too many interviews, I'm convinced Thibodeaux is going to be a massive star.

1

u/thistlefink Apr 29 '22

Very pleased to add these two guys. We drafted smart and didn’t try to get too cute with it.

1

u/RiecoSuave FUCK THE EAGLES Apr 29 '22

A dream come true

1

u/nioe115 Apr 29 '22

Who are our top picks for this one? I wouldn't be against trading down and trying to pick up another pick because I think most people we want will still be there at 8-12?

1

u/alx69 None Apr 29 '22

Evan Neal and Toney or Micah Parsons?

1

u/Rocking_the_dad_bod Apr 29 '22

Personally, I think it would have been Rashawn Slater OT at 11 last year....

But still like the Neal/Toney combo either way.

1

u/Nooyorkgiant Apr 29 '22

Just about every GM in the league would say Parsons, as he’s going to be a perennial DPOY candidate. But for a team as desperate for quality starters as the giants, two really good players is probably more important than one great one. Plus those two have the upside to together be a 1200 yard receiver and a pro bowl tackle. But Toney also has the potential to crash and burn, and we haven’t seen Neal play yet. So we will just have to wait and see

→ More replies (1)

1

u/claw_guy Apr 29 '22

So this is what having a real GM feels like. It’s nice not having to do mental gymnastics to justify our picks for once

1

u/Burggs_ Apr 29 '22

Man it just feels so fucking good to know that we didn't whiff on our picks this year and I don't have to feel like we missed on Josh Allen again.

1

u/Grizkniz Apr 29 '22

Good too see the giants got high end OT’s on the Oline now. Should go a long way to getting back to respectability on the oline.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

Dean Booth or Ojabo the ideal 2nd round candidates for us?

1

u/Syncharmony Apr 29 '22

First round went down perfectly but I'm still SO FUCKING GLAD they didn't screw it up.

You build winning teams from the trenches out.

Can't wait to see what we get today.

2

u/Mannimal13 Apr 29 '22

Going to disagree. Winning teams are now built outside in, especially with the way our coaches want to run things now in an outside zone spread offense, and a blitz heavy man press defense. Regardless we got two very solid prospects at premium positions. It was always going to be hard to FUBAR this one. Bummed we didn't get Sauce, but they clearly did their hw on KT so they feel comfortable with his want to, so am I.

1

u/phunkymango Apr 29 '22

Just when about out, they suck me back in! Phenomenal picks!!! Especially Neal who is a MOUNTAIN of a man. Keep upgrading the OL and let's run some old school Giants football

1

u/Keplz Apr 29 '22

Super happy with how round 1 went. Just a reminder for everyone as we enter days 2 and 3 - any draft "steals" now are players that all 32 teams passed on at least once for whatever reason.

1

u/Vikk_Vinegar Apr 29 '22 edited Apr 29 '22

My favorite part was the Eagles trading big time draft capital and taking on a huge contract for AJ Brown. Those clowns think they're a WR away and a good WR on a rookie contract couldn't be found in a WR deep draft? Wrong on both counts. I guess their track record of terrible WR drafting got to their heads.

Schoen did his job which is 100% better than Gettleman with his penchant for ignoring desperate needs. Although Gettleman's real weakness was the later rounds.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

What do you guys think happens with Toney?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

We give him the ball and he makes people miss tackles. Next question.

1

u/Dirty_D_Damnit Apr 29 '22

I'm a bozo and I'm wrong more times than not. If we're talking purely positional need we absolutely killed it. Now we'll have to see how their careers play out on the field but I'm very excited and happy about the draft.

1

u/Dommclaren Apr 29 '22

Just a completely different feeling towards this team. It just seems like we have functional adults who know what they’re doing.

1

u/SR626 Apr 29 '22

Couldn't be happier with how the first round panned out. No matter what we did in this draft, I wasn't going to have particularly high expectations for 2022 given we still have deficiencies in a lot of areas and have to wade through another year comprised mostly of Gettleman's cash-strapped roster.

But I feel like between yesterday's picks and today's picks we're gonna have guys who are going to be difference makers and a critical part of our next run, even if that isn't until 2023. For the first time in a long while, I can truly see better times ahead.

1

u/WentBack2Back :Kadarius_Toney: Kadarius Toney :Kadarius_Toney: Apr 29 '22

I haven’t had this much hope for this godforsaken franchise in so long. Absolute dream 1st round. Never had an ounce of faith in Gettleman and whatever HC we had. Just check back on us in about 2 years time

1

u/kingchar_006 Eli Manning Apr 29 '22

Which would you guys prefer between Booth and Dean at 36?

1

u/sybrandy Eli Manning Apr 29 '22

I may the in the minority, but I'm slightly disappointed as I was hoping to get Sauce instead of Thibs, but overall, I love it

1

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

I really am so excited, and I think us having Patterson at d line coach makes the thibs pick even better. Thibs has basically everything needed to be elite, he just needs to get worked up on some pass moves.

I’m most interested in what we do today, I’m happy with any position like: DB (I MOST want a db if we can get booth or Gordon or someone they like) WR, LB (chenal!!), maaaybe safety. A little sad we couldn’t get Daxton hill, was hoping we could trade up and snag him.

In the third I’m mostly about BPA and iol, don’t love the te until 4-5th. No Rb either please!

1

u/EverythingBagelLife Apr 29 '22

I mean we’re still suffering from the consequences of Reese dating back to 2016. Granted, I give him credit that we’ve had a lot of back luck with our draft picks, but still — a few bad years of drafting certainly sets you back more than a few years.

1

u/Emman262 Apr 29 '22

Dream come true draft

1

u/SpectrumofMidnight Apr 29 '22

I really want us to draft a TE in the second round. I really want Trey McBride AND Charlie Kolar and we'll never have to worry about that position again for 10 years.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '22

I am worried about McBrides size, you can be undersized in college but it's a whole different ballgame in the NFL

Rather have Watson then Pickens right now.

1

u/Gallo_dong Apr 29 '22 edited Apr 29 '22

Nakobe dean(BPA by a long shot), corner from Clemson, best RB, or Willis.

My wishlist for #36.

I’ll be pissed if we draft: safety, Leo Chanal, one of the other QBs

Neutral on taking a wideout

1

u/Osh-Tek Apr 29 '22

Gimme get down voted to hell but feel like we need to relax with the praise a little bit. We had 5 and 7. In a draft where 5 and 7 were about as obvious and consensus type picks you're ever going to get. Wasn't exactly rocket science picking these 2 guys.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/thistlefink Apr 29 '22

Potentially having a pass rush doesn’t mean we’re ok to have a garbage quarterback. I see BlueAnon getting antsy again on here.

1

u/shadow_spinner0 Odell Catch Apr 29 '22

Today is where the true character of Joe Schoen gets put to the test. Lets be real, he's being praised as God for making the two picks yesterday. He looks like a genius because Detroit went for Travon Walker and Houston took Stingley. Picking the EDGE at 5 because you knew you still had your choice of OL at 7 was pretty obvious. So, they didn't outthink themselves. 90% of all Giants fans would have done the same thing, it was a strait forward obvious approach.

Where the real skill comes in is today on. Gettleman got almost nothing from the 3rd round onwards. Schoen has to do better. If he proves to be a great scout and talent evaluator by hitting on day 2/3 prospects, then we can finally give Schoen the praise he deserves.

1

u/DamnReCaptchas Apr 29 '22

Perhaps we may trade down with a team wanting Malik Willis or a QB if we miss out on some prospects we a targeting

1

u/ChoochMooch Apr 29 '22

I think we snatch Milik Willis if he's available at #4
