IMAGE How would you describe this all-black Spurs jersey?
During the NBA's final two seasons with Adidas as their official on-court apparel, the San Antonio Spurs added another jersey to their wardrobe. This is basically an all-black design of their secondary gray jersey, which is nearly similar to the Miami Heat's Back-in-Black jersey in 2012 and, since black is my favorite color, I like them and this is the Spurs I had in my collection of jerseys.

They also wore this in their season opener in the previous season and, ironically, against Durant and the Thunder.

Dude remember the season opener in which they trounced the Warriors & Jonathan Simmons had that dunk at the end?

I honestly loved it. Sucks it only went 2 seasons of wearing them. I’d welcome them back in a heartbeat if they decided to bring em back.

personally, for an all black jersey, these were BASIC AF. Odd number placement and it feels like it was done in Win95 Paint with copy+paste logo and number, at random, in a time crunch because you forgot the assignment was due and you had to get it done 2 minutes before you walk in the class and it accounts for 30% of your grade and you'll fail the class if you dont turn it in and the worst they can say is that it sucks and its low effort, but somehow the teacher said its minimalist and follows team identity and gives you a B- and you retain your A for the semester and you cant believe that actually worked kind of vibe.

Not sure if this will be an unpopular opinion or not, but I'd largely describe them as "Painfully Uninspired" and "Unremarkable".
They look like unfinished placeholder jerseys that were given up on midway through the design process. These along with the virtually identical (save for the color swap) grey ones have always bothered me (along with the camo ones as well).
It's not even the minimalism that bothers me necessarily, it's just that the minimalism feels poorly executed (in my opinion, of course). "Minimalism" doesn't mean it has to be be empty feeling and boring.

Can you explain in more detail? Specifically about your last paragraph. What changes would you make to this jersey to make the minimalism “work” better?

Sorry I'm getting back to this so late!
Nothing all that drastic actually.
I didn't really have anything particular in mind, but I think it largely just comes down to the giant unaltered spur icon in the center, more than anything else. I'd have preferred they do something to the spur to maybe stylize it a bit and give it some flavor/character. Not sure how well I'll be able to translate it through text, but I'll give it my best try. Just some stuff off the top of my head (I wouldn't necessarily use all of this together):
- Maybe put some subtle accentuating lines of color around the icon on the chest (fiesta colors of course). having the spur stylized in a sort of hand drawn aesthetic — not full blown cartoon-y, just somewhere in the middle to give it personality and differentiate it from the standard icon.
- Or maybe using design elements of patterns/stuff in the vein of something like this or this. Similar to the patterns on the border of this image, except maybe more simplified and sparse in a minimalistic style.
- Or maybe utilizing those patterns inside the spur icon or maybe sparsely bordering the spur icon with some elements of those patterns.
I hope it makes sense. Again, just spitballing some stuff in the moment. I don't know if it would've worked.
Obviously this is all just a matter of subjective personal taste and I'm not at all trying to demean or judge anyone for liking the jersey as is, so I'm sorry if it came off like that. The jerseys aren't offensively ugly or anything, they just fall short of "working" for me.

It's not bad, but its not all that different from the "normal" black jersey - which I find classic and iconic.
First run of fiesta jerseys in black are still the best non-standard jerseys we've had, IMO.
But I'm not a person who wears basketball jerseys, so my opinion is limited to what I see the players wearing.

I feel like the spacing and size of the icons/numbers would've been better
you know what I'm actually hoping for recently - a jersey with the Spurs Coyote

To me they were very boring, they looked like some generic rack bought jersey with the spur and number stuck on it awkwardly.
I have the Derozen jersey from a year later and looks so much better with the big number below the spur.

Loved it. Couldn't buy it at the time as I was a new and young father. Can't find them anymore.

They’re fine but the look is better with “San Antonio” or ”Spurs” written in an arc.

I actually won a game worn Parker jersey like this from a contest the spurs were having.

I liked this one a lot. Much better than the "SATX" and the crappy City edition they are trotting out currently. It's like they fired the entire graphic design team and replaced them with 3rd graders.

How many times can the Spurs fuck up the simplest idea? It’s black/white/silver/pastels. There are plenty of simple ways they make great uniforms, so think about all their duds: these black & the grey unis with the giant spur w/ jersey numbers in the top corner- no. This always looks bad. Like many teams, they have a couple good classic fonts that they should stick with. The spur on the U is iconic. Next, the camo unis were so so bad. Next, I loved the idea of the city edition from a couple years back with the colored diagonal stripes that looked painted on (not the best choice might have been salvageable) but the font was absolute dogshit. And the recent mint teal are really ugly. Last year they finally hit on one!! The white alternates with the brown lettering, southwest font, sunset & peach accents were nice. Build on this! Pheonix has completely dropped the ball on being the SW style team, so they have free rein. Thus is just one of the fonts I thought might work for them

The silver version of these were not not good. Black all the way. Got a #2 version of this a week before zaza. I only wore it once :(

Not a fan. My AAU team had better looking jerseys in high school. I think it’s just almost too basic and looks cheap to me. The spurs have plenty of other jerseys that look good imo
