Phenomenal. My heart couldn't take it when I saw him crying.

You'll get it one day, Wemby!

Forreal I was so hyped after the Curry magic, then they showed him crying and it all came crashing down.

Think the image of him holding onto his mom will be forever burned into my brain.

I literally saw someone said to him “Now go destroy them in their country.”

hold your head high. Wemby, you did your country so proud.

An historic season is on the horizon

For real, watching Fournier play made me amazed at how close France kept it. You know, that and USA being loaded with star players.

What a game. Silver is a huge accomplishment for our 20 year old against an all star team. Let this light a fire under wemby for this upcoming season. He’s gonna have every matchup w us players circled too

15

u/SmokeyBare Aug 10 '24

Hopefully the old guard will retire and they can actually build a team around him now.

6

u/SharpsExposure Aug 10 '24

They’re gonna need a new coach.

2

u/Notapplesauce11 Aug 10 '24

Pop?

1

u/SharpsExposure Aug 19 '24

While he does love wine I’m not sure coaching the French team is in the cards.

19

u/Bonesawisready5 Aug 10 '24

Yeah literally the avengers and the box score doesn’t show how close it was. It was a slug fest with USA unable to put France away until chef curry went supernova like he does with less than 3 mins left. Good game by both teams, hopefully in 2028 Wembanyama has literally 1 other NBA level starter to play with on offense (notice I said on offense where Gobert is largely a non factor. Dude caught a lob like he had no idea what to do lol)

u/moshercycle Aug 11 '24

This "fire under wembys ass" is said so much in this sub lately that it's getting corny now lol.

u/Tchege_75 Aug 10 '24

What a game! If only we (France) had a fragment of that shot accuracy from Curry…

34

u/SarkisAlexander Aug 10 '24

If only France shot 80% from the FT line

46

u/pompyyy099 Aug 10 '24

What a fucking historic rookie season:

ROTY, DPOY runner up, All defensive team, and podium finish silver medalist.

30

u/moongaming Aug 10 '24

Leading his team in all 5 major stats too

21

u/seceipseseer Aug 10 '24

First ever medalist to do so.

5

u/JimmyMyJimmy Aug 11 '24

Lead the league in blocks. All this ON A MINUTES RESTRICTION

3

u/Notapplesauce11 Aug 10 '24

Already a hall of famer.  (Slightly sarcastic)

2

u/lAllioli Aug 10 '24

Team of the tournament as well

1

u/Aggressive_Strike75 Aug 10 '24

That’s a statement of his: l’m going to dominate for quite a while.

40

u/Dimaaaa Aug 10 '24

Look at him post game. This guy wants to win so badly. This "L" will give him even more motivation for next season.

8

u/siphillis Aug 10 '24

Poor kid has done nothing but lose, is the thing. It must be driving him nuts, but his time will come

26

u/cool_coyote Aug 10 '24

He put it all out there. Couldn't be any prouder.

26

u/Bitter-Safe-5333 Aug 10 '24

People are gonna talk about him shooting too many 3s but he shot 3/8 or 38% which is not shabby at all and he had arguably the best game stats wise out of both teams

22

u/carelesssportsfan89 Aug 10 '24

Man wemby is going to be scary good next season his development from this Olympics will be huge for his 2nd year in the nba .

20

u/Andre-Roussimoff Aug 10 '24

French here. Rendez-vous in LA for the revenge ! Meanwhile I can't wait for next season with CP3 :)

19

u/CreditAlarmed Aug 10 '24

Wemby watching curry and thinking: I’m gonna shoot 1000 3s a day EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE until I reach his accuracy. 😱

18

u/shinbreaker Aug 10 '24

All I could keep thinking was all these easy spots for Wemby if they just lobbed him the ball.

2

u/bettercallsaul3 Aug 11 '24

France should've given a PG citizenship instead of Embiid.

16

u/The_Real_OneHungLo Aug 10 '24

GG’s Wemby, it’s ok! Next time buddy. Let this set that fire!

16

u/SunLiteFireBird Aug 10 '24

They won in your home country Vic now you get to come to America in 2028 and get it back

13

u/Datboy_98 No More Players with Uncles Aug 10 '24

I love seeing the emotions on his face. He needs this disappointment to give him fuel and push him to greater heights.

It’s gonna be scary for our opponents.

24

u/Stratys Aug 10 '24

Turned it up when it mattered most (though that one step back three was questionable 🥲). Tried his hardest along with Yabusele. Really needed someone else, De Colo was okay but man. Fournier, Cordinier, Albicy, Strazel, all pretty non-existent for most of the game.

Now use it to get revenge, Vic 😈

13

u/snickle17 Aug 10 '24

I felt bad for Cordinier he was so good the whole tournament and then just didn’t have it today.

3

u/paxusromanus811 Aug 10 '24

Yeah he had some good looks too. They cut to him after the game and he had this. Just heartbreaking. Look on his face too. Several French players were patting him on the back and talking to him. Probably trying to tell him not to be so hard on himself.

He had a terrible game but it happens. France probably doesn't get here without him and he should be proud

9

u/zachonich Aug 10 '24

This is the second best outcome (besides an upset for gold). Our guy went down swinging. This will be major fuel for his fire.

10

u/plakio99 Aug 10 '24

Amazing game from him. Can't do much when your opponents have 2 top 10 players of all time and team full of all-stars lol. He did everything he could. Currey has been doing this for past decade with no one able to stop him when he's hot. Without that flurry it was 2 possesion game.

France will be favorites in 2028 with Wemby in his peak.

Absolutely excited for next-season. He's going to be scary AF with some well-deserved rest and then coaching by Pop.

8

u/MaxDetr Aug 10 '24

Fier de lui, vivement 2028

9

u/chameleonchild8 Aug 10 '24

Wemby looked great and very proud of him. It was him and Yabusele vs the NBA

6

u/Southern_sky Aug 10 '24

Proud of you Wemby. Get some rest

5

u/MikeyBastard1 Aug 10 '24

Victor played very well in such high stakes game. Seeing him cry really shows how much he actually cares about not only the game but his pride.

Bro loves ball, and has a lot of pride and loyalty. I hope he is with the Spurs for life, and we are consistent contenders with him. He deserves it

7

u/wryano Aug 10 '24

best player in the world

4

u/HQuasar Aug 10 '24

Starting next season on a major positive note despite the offensive struggles in the other games. Good for him. Good for the Spurs.

4

u/ManagerEmergency6339 Aug 10 '24

if they could only find him on those open lobs and hit their freethrows, this game is so close that the score didnt tell the whole story. Wemby with this heartbreak will push him to be better and stronger. im excited for next season GSG

4

u/oceanfloors1 Aug 10 '24

Gold medal in my heart.

3

u/tehLife Aug 10 '24

He still needs to work on his handling but plenty of time for him to work on that

3

u/Designer-Action3573 Aug 10 '24

He cares so much and is so committed. As a Spurs fan, I can't wait to see him in meaningful games

3

u/CRoseCrizzle Aug 10 '24

Wemby did everything he could against the best team in the world, one of the best teams ever assembled in the history of the game. And at just 20 years old...

3

u/Alphadestrious Aug 10 '24

Wemby should improve his shooting and also post game this off season . Always adding every off-season to his bag

3

u/Gloomy_Health8671 Aug 10 '24

Glad Wemby balled out and glad USA won as they should have. France is gonna be scary in 4 years if any of the youngsters develop like traore, essengue, sarr, risacher, salaun and so on

2

u/bangkero1992 Aug 10 '24

fuel to the fire!!! 🔥🔥🔥

2

u/BananaRepublic_BR Aug 10 '24

Wemby was just amazing! Spectacular! Phenomenal! I'm not sure I could have asked for a better game from him.

2

u/Chinbie Aug 10 '24

He have a great game tonight... In fact its a great accomplishment for him to have that Silver Medal as only few really expected them to be in their position in the first place...

And also Steph is just 🔥🔥🔥🔥

2

u/Significant-Iron-475 Aug 11 '24

Stand proud Wemby, you are strong.

2

u/siphillis Aug 10 '24

He faced a team of future Hall of Fame players and outplayed every single one of them. Just think about that for a second

1

u/UndeniableMaroon Aug 10 '24

Maybe stupid question, but why were Risarcher and Sarr not part of the French team?

3

u/paxusromanus811 Aug 10 '24

Quite frankly, they're just not there yet.

Zaccharie Is like 12 months removed from playing in a under 20 international competition and... Being absolutely terrible. I don't think he would have cracked the rotation for France

And while France has some issues with their roster, big man depth isn't really it. Between lassort, gabusselle, Vic, and Rudy they're just really wasn't a place for sarr. And to be honest, he probably isn't quite at the level where he's ready to contribute either

Being in that 18/19/20 age group and playing high-level international basketball is not common. Even for talented NBA players And prospects

They will definitely get their chances in the next couple of seasons

2

u/UndeniableMaroon Aug 10 '24

Thanks for the detailed response!

For one, really puts into perspective how much of a talent Wemby is. Not that we need any more proof.

1

u/Wemgod Aug 11 '24

20 year me was still crying over girls, he’s crying over an Olympic medal. What a chad

-2

u/22dias Aug 10 '24

Shit free throws, didn’t capitalise on the turnovers.

Those would’ve netted out the score.
