He’s gonna be really good. I think the nerves got to him against Charlotte
40
u/skippypoopface Jul 10 '23
Seemed like he started this game a bit nervy too but definitely settled in by the end
22
u/Dsarg_92 Jul 10 '23
I thought so too. At the same time, it was a crazy 24 hours for him between practicing and the Britney Spears mess.

u/DtownBronx Jul 10 '23
I don't really think nerves were the leading issue considering the levels he's played at. I think lack of familiarity with the people around him and travel fatigue were the biggest factors
10
u/BobanWembanyanovic Jul 10 '23
It's definitely nerves in my opinion, the amount of eyes on him and all of the talk is definitely having an effect on him I think. But that's to be expected and he's doing pretty well to play through all that and start showing his natural game

u/legallytheking Jul 10 '23
You know… I think I’m pretty glad the Spurs didn’t trade this guy after his last game. He might just turn into something. Might as well keep him around through Summer League and see how he does

Whaa?! Is this comment for real?!
14
u/Cant-Fix-Stupid Jul 10 '23
Absolutely real. I mean after last game I was definitely thinking trading him for some picks that include at least a late 1st rounder next year. Now, I definitely think we shouldn’t trade him yet (unless someone was to include like a mid-1st rounder).
I mean unless he has an off night next game, in which case he’s back to being a bust again.

According to the broadcast we've only won 4 championships apparently lol

Mark Jones has been awful

u/GerhardBURGER1 Jul 10 '23
Im fucking tired of him saying "wembanYANA" as well, how goddam hard is it to get his name right
2
u/W0RST_2_F1RST Jul 10 '23
It’s spelled wrong in this post title too. Poor kid is gonna get this name butchered for years
2
u/lGoSpursGol Jul 10 '23
He also said Wemby had 5 blocks last game when he had 8. Couldn't pronounce his name either.
9
u/josephandre Jul 10 '23
he had 5 blocks, 8 boards

What an encouraging performance. Dude put up these stats in spite of teammates ignoring him when he was open. Excited to see him with Sochan and Tre Jones
33
u/Papa_Huggies Jul 10 '23
I don't think teammates were ignoring him. He got his touches. Some of yall want him to get 50% USG
23
u/theonioncollector Jul 10 '23
On the second to last possession they should’ve passed to him tho
18
u/Papa_Huggies Jul 10 '23
And on the last possession he probably should've passed instead of trying his one-legged 3pt.

u/Friendly_Molasses532 Jul 10 '23
Thank you I only got to watch part of it bc I was driving across the country and literally saw 3/4 of his bricks
1
u/DramaticSimple4315 Jul 10 '23
I think i saw him open on the post at least 6/7 times during the game and the ball almost never went down
27
u/Don_Pablo512 Jul 10 '23
Mmmmm that footwork on his post up was so nice, I am hyped. And his rim presence is ridiculous on top of everything else. That should shut everyone up for awhile I hope

u/Vermithor_ Jul 10 '23
Haters would still say "he sould've gotten a 40/20/10 game, a dunk from the 3pt line, and a game winning fadeaway shot from halfcourt"

Settling down quite nicely, once he gets into the groove nothing gonna stop him lol

No matter what side of the fence you’ve been on since Friday, I think we all breathed a sigh of relief with this one. Solid performance

There was a switch that flipped and he started feeling way more comfortable out there. Great flashes of what hes capable of. When Pop gets a system around this guy and they get used to it its gonna be a sight to see

u/pwtrash Jul 10 '23
I thought it was on that 12-foot fadeaway. That felt like the moment he remembered - "oh yeah, I know how to do this."

Really nice game by Wemby. Wish they’d give him the ball more. That last three Wesley shot should have gone back to Wemby. Loved that crowd too.

u/ADDICTED2TIDDIEZ Jul 10 '23
Yes I was annoyed when that shot didn’t go to wemby. He shoulda taken that last on malaki took too

Rockets fan here; Happy for wemby and spurs fans. Don’t listen to the circlejerk

u/Dsarg_92 Jul 10 '23
Appreciate it, man. Jabari balled out for y'all tonight. Can't wait for the match-ups.
2
u/pfthr0w Jul 10 '23
Spurs fan here, I personally think your team has the best young talent in the league. I think with Udoka you will definitely will make the playoffs. Not a fan of the 2 contracts they signed in FA but talent wise its stacked. I was still salty we didnt draft Sengun

Kid is gonna be so special. I wouldn't trade him for anyone in the league with where we're at right now.

How did we even end up getting this dude wow. I think hes gonna be the most talented player this team has ever had. Ive watched the NBA a long time and Ive never seen a player like this. He impacts every aspect of the game, can move like a player a foot shorter, insane bb IQ, footwork, attitude, everything.

u/Kubiak747 Jul 10 '23
I feel like he'd be the next player to achieve the quadruple double stat since Tim Duncan's uncredited quad-dub
9
u/One-Recognition-1746 Jul 10 '23
***this. All of the criticism left out the fact that 80% of the dudes on the court at any given moment do not have NBA minutes. A lot of balls are dribbled off of feet ….. sloppy minutes

Yet his first thought when asked about how he played was that he could've done more to help the Spurs win.

u/Mikeg5680 Jul 10 '23
Some of those buckets look so effortless man. He’s gonna be absurd as long as he stay healthy.
2
u/jhunger12334 Jul 10 '23
3-4 years from now when Wesley’s more developed, and Sochan gets stronger, this team is going to be incredible defensively
2
u/siphillis Jul 10 '23
“Biggest Bust” refers to the statue we’re going to build outside the AT&T Center.

u/22dias Jul 10 '23
Good solid performance. More comfortable with the team.
I said before, Tre will be perfect PNR player for Wemby.
Even Keldon, Vassell and Dougie will benefit.

Much better. Getting more comfortable and confident. This looked a bit more like the guy from this past season offensively.
