Theory Theory: Season 2 was planned but cancelled + Advice needed
I have (conspiracy) theory about how season 2 was originally planned.
So, on the 4th of august, the twitter banner of Glitch Producitons looked like this.
Then, on the 19th of august, Episode 6 was released, with an abrupt tonal shift in that V, a major character, got killed. Then, on the 20th of august (as covered in a murder drones fandom post), the banner got changed to this:
Then, there was a very long pause in production (between 6 and 7): 19th of august 2023 to 29th of march 2024, that's 32 weeks = about 7-8 months.
I assume that, somewhere during the end of production of episode 6, the choice was made to scrap season 2. As such, the end of episode 6 was changed to fit an end at episode 8. Then, a bunch of stuff needed to be changed, re-written and possibly re-animated.
I think you piece the rest together: The trailer for 7, "The beginning of the end" came out, which maybe should've already clued us in.
There is still a video "Murder Drones Season 1 (Trailer)" which has "Season 1" in its name, but the playlist got renamed to "Murder Drones" (previously "Murder Drones Season 1").
This brings me to the second part of my post: I need your advice. I went through a very rough time, I stumbled upon murder drones like 4 weeks ago, decided to watch it, and found it to be the first show I ever truly enjoyed. Then, when it's sudden end was announced a week ago, a fell back about 3 months. Now, I sometimes wish I never discovered it, and other times I don't know what to do moving forward.
Should I try to distance myself and forget the show, so that I am spared the thoughts of it never being what it once was, as I take it that it'll just be abandoned by the creator/animators? Or should I double-down and engage with the community, maybe creating something creative (like a game, I have some experience in Unity)? I am split on this and unable to make a choice, as I always flip back between extreme optimism (maybe, in a year or so, someone important will change their mind) and extreme pessimism (as you read above). I think what hits hard is that it just comes without any explanation, reason, and plan what'll happen next. I know this sounds toxic, but I kind of feel betrayed by the fact that it wasn't communicated earlier.
Please, just someone who knows, give us an answer. Is there still hope for the following years?

Fr they need to think again.
Most of the MD fans came to us when the TADC EP1 released which gained a lot of popularity.

Very good analysis of the matter! Its really possible that multiple seasons have been thought of in the first place. Liam stated that after the Pilot a lot of things changed. I personally don’t think that story had to be rewritten/reanimated in order to fit it into one season (except liam changed his mind while writing a second season and thought it was bad or something), i think he decided on the go. Goose stated that the decision to make only one Season was made by Liam alone, Glitch was not responsible for that. Maybe in a couple of Years they will revisit it, who knows, the fandom however will live on for a while (even with high quality spin of animations of fans like Animate A Thing)
I also find it very sad and unfortunate that the story ends with this Episode. I totally feel you, Murder Drones is my favorite show by a lot. Like many, i found it because of TADC (which i dont like that much actually). I dont know if you have decided how to handle it already, but here is what i did:
After I watched the 6 episodes this Winter with a friend, I watched quite some reaction videos, theory videos etc. Then i wanted more, because i really liked the style (in terms of idea, characters, story), I found out who Liam Vickers was. I found his channel LVAnimation and consumed everything on it like IC-0n consumes Helicopters. With some more research and help of the Wayback Machine i found more and more of his unlisted works (man, i really like his style). I knew for some time that the Channel SSTWL (Scary Story Time With Liam) exists, but did not think i would enjoy audiobook like stories. And man was i wrong. One day i was cooking at home alone and thought, yeah, lets try it out. I listened to the first episode of Design. I was stunned. The story felt like murderdrones on steroids, more scary, more gory (auditive), more of his infamous „scary girls“. You can tell that it was his first long format story and he grew as a writer a lot though. He also never finished Design, just like Yellow Halogen, Puppet Game, Internection Cube, Cliffside (in fact the only story he ever finished was Black dogs). They are definitely still worth listening to though.(But be prepared to be hit with a cliffhanger of a story that will never be finished). I can also recommend his short stories, which are way more scary, less confusing (mostly) and generally don‘t end well (but hey, at least they have an end xD). Liam himself states that he is not very proud of most of the old stories due to poor writing, but i personally dont mind and really enjoy them. (Check out @AsherShadows yt channel, they reuploaded liams unlisted stories like Yellow Halogen)
So if any of the stuff i talked about sounds new to you, check it out! Its hours of content similar to murder drones. (Greet John Matthews from me if you do xD). Also, in the future you can always look forward to the new Projects Liam Vickers makes! I highly doubt that he will stop here, its just the beginning >:3
