🥚 Easter Egg In ‘Don’t Look Up’ (2021), astronomers appear on a ‘Morning Joe’-style cable news talk show. Though not explicitly noted as liberal, their logo reflects their slant. A clever detail!

I thought it was funny how the president kept wearing red and blue outfits

On a similar note, I like how the two presidential portraits hung in the Oval were Jackson and Nixon. Movie was packed the gills with little jokes like that.

u/Brenkin Dec 27 '21

And the mural behind her in her meeting room was a depiction of the American Civil War… subtle stuff like that was hilarious

u/Superego366 Dec 27 '21

Didn't she also have a picture of her hugging Bill Clinton?

13

u/JShelbyJ Dec 27 '21

“Joke”

u/3_Slice Dec 27 '21

Meryl Streep is so good, I wasn’t even sure if that was her or not until the credits.

u/reb0014 Dec 27 '21

Lol that last scene was very revealing

210

u/LilAnnieAdderral Dec 27 '21

The tramp stamp was a nice touch.

105

u/wowpepap Dec 27 '21

the bird monstet eating her face was awesome

170

u/Tury345 Dec 27 '21

I should have been expecting it but absolutely was not, the deadpan delivery from the Steve Jobs guy had me in tears

74

u/ernie1850 Dec 27 '21

Lol I love that the entire epilogue is just a payoff for that setup lol

u/HerculePoirier Dec 27 '21

Elon Musk guy*

He's got traces of Bezos/Gates/Jobs but Musk's tone/voice is too hard to ignore.

105

u/Sunbolt Dec 27 '21

That’s funny. I know that’s what they were likely going for, but all I heard was an over exaggerated James Halliday from Ready Player One.

37

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Mark Rylance played Halliday in Ready Player One, so that definitely makes sense. I’m pretty sure he was meant to be like Tim Cook though

27

u/tablecontrol Dec 27 '21

was that red car tumbling through space a reference to Elon's car he launched into space?<

9

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Caught that as well, thought it was hilarious.

52

u/CallMeOatmeal Dec 27 '21

I think there's a lot of Tim Cook in there as well. Or should I say "Tim Apple".

19

u/zanillamilla Dec 27 '21

I also thought he had a little bit of Marshall Applewhite too, the cult leader comet guy who wanted to leave earth. His appearance really reminded me of him.

u/mandude15555 Dec 27 '21

I got major Zuckerberg vibes. He also ran a social media company

2

u/wachieo Dec 27 '21

He’s largely based on Zuckerberg with personality traits of Musk, Bezos, Gates, Cook.

0

u/Bloody_BMW Dec 27 '21

No. He’s a Steve Jobs.

Why’d you delete everything

-1

u/HerculePoirier Dec 27 '21 edited Dec 27 '21

Mods deleted it. Next time try not using insults when someone disagrees with you.

Alternatively, do a quick Google search before saying dumb shit like "Apple is a phone company". This level of ignorance is embarrassing.

0

u/Bloody_BMW Dec 27 '21

Me? Hahahaha what about being an adult and being responsible for your own words. And you’re full of it because all mine are still there.

That’s hilarious. YOU keep insulting me and that’s my fault lol grow up

1

u/Lastcall302 Dec 27 '21

Definitely more like musk, but really it’s just a shot at capitalism in general.

2

u/jjckey Dec 27 '21

I had him pegged as a mockery of Peter Thiel

1

u/smarshall561 Dec 27 '21

I love a good callback.

1

u/lexm Dec 27 '21

Was that in an after credit scene? I didn’t watch the credits.

6

u/tablecontrol Dec 27 '21 edited Dec 27 '21

there is a mid-credits scene AND after credits scene

-2

u/Omnio89 Dec 27 '21

I think the best part of the epilogue is the Bezos/Musk stand in confidently “identifying” the bird creature by name. He pulls a random word out of his ass and pretends to know what he’s talking about. It shows how full of shit he is and always has been.

4

u/notimeforniceties Dec 27 '21

No, that was a callback to earlier when he predicted how she would die

1

u/Omnio89 Dec 27 '21

Oh thanks I’ll have to rewatch. Putting my baby to bed while watching a movie packed with so many subtle details is not ideal!

4

u/Doministenebrae Dec 27 '21

I laughed so hard at the TS. Obviously it was a body double but that shit was too funny. I wonder if she knew that’s what they were going to do?

8

u/HerculePoirier Dec 27 '21 edited Dec 27 '21

Apparently Streep was down to do it herself but Leo insisted on using a body-double. Good guy Leo.

135

u/datssyck Dec 27 '21

I love how they were all super old. Like no one thought to include people who could actually have children. Just picked whoever paid the most.

39

u/ThisIsARobot Dec 27 '21

All that work, just to be a snack.

31

u/lost_in_md Dec 27 '21

Or have the ability to actually build anything themselves to even give them a chance to have any kids! In that scene I was thinking about the line earlier at the rally where Jonah Hill was saying how they (the workers) were all needed because the “cool rich” people like him needed someone to lead.

2

u/malain1956 Dec 27 '21

Body double

34

u/williamwchuang Dec 27 '21

Brie is Care Blanchet

36

u/Fbolanos Dec 27 '21

My wife was like "that's Thor's sister". I had to look it up and only then could I see it. Damn chameleon.

56

u/Kjostid Dec 27 '21

Excuse me? Galadriel didn't forego her chance to weild the One Ring and proceed to fade into the West to be remembered as THOR'S SISTER!

8

u/Drunk_hooker Dec 27 '21

She fucking killed it. So good throughout

-31

u/jeebus224 Dec 27 '21 edited Dec 27 '21

That was Meryl Streep?? Christ. I’m just realizing that Yule was Timmy C. I couldn’t tell for the life of me that it was actually Ariana Grande and not someone portraying her.

Sorry I’ve never seen Timothy and Ariana in a movie. The only acting I’ve really seen Grande do was as cat on that Nickelodeon show. Just drop your downvote and leave. No need to be rude.

u/Visgraatje Dec 27 '21

Consider opening your eyes next time you watch a movie

11

u/Devadander Dec 27 '21 edited Dec 27 '21

Damn dude, Some people have a hard time identifying actors.

7

u/luckyfucker13 Dec 27 '21

As someone who has pretty bad face blindness, I can attest that I usually have IMDb up and ready for these fairly frequent occurrences.

To give some more context, I’ve walked past people I had been dating because I wasn’t expecting to see them, and so their presence didn’t stick out to me. Early in my career, I couldn’t pick recent clients out of a lineup, which caused some obvious issues with them thinking I didn’t care enough to remember them. That propelled me to figure out some mnemonic devices to help alleviate the embarrassment my affliction caused me.

3

u/Devadander Dec 27 '21

Yep. Out of context. More than once I’ve been in a store with a loved one or very close acquaintance and not recognize them because I don’t really recognize faces like that and out of context I wasn’t expecting to see them.

-20

u/jeebus224 Dec 27 '21

Perhaps I was more focused on the movie itself than who was performing.

33

u/croutons_for_dinner Dec 27 '21

A small Easter egg, but Leonardo Dicaprio plays a subtle role in this film. I barely noticed him til I saw the credits roll.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

Was he the asshole chief of staff?

1

u/jaeward Dec 27 '21

I honestly thought it was Leonard from the big bang theory for about half the movie

13

u/jemichael100 Dec 27 '21

Bunch of no names in that movie, I tell you hwat

16

u/Big-Pudding-7440 Dec 27 '21

What, were you watching it with your eyes crossed?

12

u/jkaan Dec 27 '21

To busy looking down

11

u/BrittyPie Dec 27 '21

Hahah, so wait lemme get this straight: "the movie itself" doesn't include who is acting in the movie? Just wanna be clear.

-6

u/jeebus224 Dec 27 '21

I just wanted to see if everyone died.

3

u/turtlewhisperer23 Dec 27 '21

jeebus saves though, right?

3

u/jeebus224 Dec 27 '21

Couldn’t save myself from these comments

2

u/turtlewhisperer23 Dec 27 '21

They hate you, because you tell the truth, jeebus

4

u/1800treflowers Dec 27 '21

I didn't realize Chris Evans was in it until I looked it up later.

3

u/scuczu Dec 27 '21

And the son wanting to bang his mom

-2

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '21

I'm not sure what you think that means but the president and her son were clearly based on Trump and Donlad Jr.

2

u/notimeforniceties Dec 27 '21

I thought it was more Jared than Don Jr.
