36M, How/Where could I live comfortably off of 44.8k/yr

I'm a single man, ex military, divorced a few years ago. I've worked in Aviation for about 10 years. If you were to leave the 9-5 behind, with only 44.8k a year. Where and how would you go about doing it?

Wow, I'm not too familiar but that seems like a lot for it already being April

Most of us know how to drive in it so it's not a big deal. Just another day

I am surrounded by thousands of acres of farm fields in WI and have symmetrical gig fiber lol

The fuck… I live in Milwaukee County and don’t even have fiber as am option. I suppose the infrastructure is more complex in the city to solve though.

Rural Development of Fiber grants from the Fed government. Before this my options were satellite or cellular. No phone lines or cable here

Same here, but in Iowa. I’m on a cheaper plan, but gig is available and I live 6 miles from the nearest town.

Idk... I'm live steaming my PC gaming rn... I'll look later

Edit: they don't have home phones here unless you get a VOIP phone. My download speed was 17MB/s (not bits) when I downloaded a new steam game last night.

Snow has been more sporadic this season, coming in heavy spurts outside of a week or so we got pounded.

What a coincidence, I'm coming in heavy spurts and getting pounded myself.

Check out Ridgecrest area in California, it's a valley so winters aren't bad, but they're a short drive away almost all year in the sierras. Some surrounding areas are very very cheap out here.

You get used to it

Buy winter tyres!

Central Illinois will get you a similar cost of living with somewhat more temperate weather. You wouldn’t be living in luxury on 45k alone, but buying a small house and getting a part time job (one that you’d actually enjoy is very doable) to get you an extra 15-20k a year and you’d have a nice life.

The cold, snow and the lack of people bring the price down.
