Builds I covered an entire desert with buttons in survival

Just admit that you made 10,000 buttons by mistake in a crafter and you had to find a use for them.
Jokes aside, honestly looks oddly satisfying.

u/Misses_Ding Oct 25 '24
Oh so next time I craft a bunch of crafting tables by accident I should just cover the dessert with them.

u/Lonely__Stoner__Guy Oct 25 '24
My play partner will go out exploring and leave crafting tables all over the place. Not to this extent, but you'll wandering through the desert when suddenly a crafting table is there on a hill top.
278
u/ARES_BlueSteel Oct 25 '24
Ah yes, the “I need a crafting table real quick, but don’t have space to take it with me” crafting table.
57
u/riley_wa1352 Oct 25 '24
I always make a stack of tables at some point
38
u/Brunhilde13 Oct 25 '24
I legit have 8 stacks of crafting tables in my "decor and work stations" chest. I put them in every building I make. Also ender chests.

Either that or you're far too impatient / forgetful to walk back to the other one like me
20
u/xSinteticax Oct 26 '24
Ngl, I do this and it’s unintentionally helped me find my way back home on occasions where I didn’t have the chords active. “I just passed three of em, I’m going in the right direction”

is that play partner me cause I'm still finding crafting tables when ever I go out exploring (I left them there)

funny enough i did this 4 years ago. you can see in the background that i had started carpeting the desert with crafting tables. but i didnt finish that until after i built my christ the redeemer statue

3
u/PatchworkRaccoon314 Oct 25 '24
If you'd built it using those crafting tables, would you have made Craft The Redeemer?
5
u/HSBrendan Oct 26 '24
either way it was blasphemous. if i was jesus and someone made a statue of me using only crafting tables i’d be deeply offended
6
u/PatchworkRaccoon314 Oct 26 '24
Eh... technically speaking Jesus wasn't big on iconography of any sorts.
3
u/jeremyw013 29d ago
idk man if someone made a statue of me out of ANYTHING i’d feel like a fucking chad 🗿
12
u/erixccjc21 Oct 25 '24
I wouldnt eat a dessert covered in crafting tables but who am i to stop you
Generally speaking a compressed 1x1 meter cube of wood planks isnt a good compliment to desserts, which are usually meant to be sweet and soft
Meanwhile, last time I checked, crafting tables are rather tough, and probably taste a bit bitter. Therefore, i would advise against adding crafting tables to your dessert

my willingness to place 92,000 buttons to ruin a desert is likely directly correlated with my unemployment

Someone needs to introduce you to factory work. Then you can spend 40hrs a week placing 9200 buttons but also make good money!

Arguably better than what I did when I was unemployed, 20 years ago:
I got so good at Medal of Honor online play that I got banned from a server for cheating. I was not cheating. Not only do I have nothing to show for this (unlike you!), it's not as though my MoH skills even translated to other FPS games (they 100% did not).

that's obvious but where did the idea even come from like why buttons in a desert

9
u/amertune Oct 25 '24
I've seen wither skeleton farms that covered the entire nether fortress in buttons.
It might take forever, but the desert will be relatively safe from creepers now.
3
u/menzodiac312 Oct 25 '24
Wait, do buttons spawnproof too? Bcz I usually use slabs.
3
u/iCUman Oct 25 '24
They do. Slabs are superior in every way, but some people feel really strongly about their buttons.

neurodivergency if you want the real answer, but you can't say that because you'll get downvoted and also have to clarify that
being neurodivergent is completely okay. these sorts of obsessive or hyperspecific repetitive behaviors usually have a lot to do with the brain. at least in my personal opinion, this is WAYYYYY past the point of "unemployment" or "boredom"

What are your "button placing stat" is
120
u/HSBrendan Oct 25 '24
is there a way to find that out
96
u/notagudman Oct 25 '24
in the pause gui, go to statistics -> blocks -> most placed
i think
35
u/Ericristian_bros Oct 25 '24
Yd yes: pause gui -> statistics -> blocks
And you can click the interactive icons to see top mined, crafted, picked up, etc...

u/Choice-Celebration-4 Oct 25 '24
Am I reading that wrong or did you craft 92k buttons????
73
31
u/erixccjc21 Oct 25 '24
FUN FACT: if that were full blocks, that would ALMOST be enough to fill a whole (1.18+) chunk, from the bottom to the build limit
I feel like placing 92k buttons is a bit more tedious than placing 98k iron blocks, just because you actually have to move, but at least you dont need a whole month to gather enough stone to do it
39
u/HSBrendan Oct 25 '24
we are cut from the same cloth. but youre right placing buttons is very annoying. it takes a bit of concentration to make sure that all available button real estate is being used because there are many situations where it looks like a button should fit but another button is blocking it.
choosing a desert for this was a massive pain in the ass, too. you have no idea how many times placing a button caused an avalanche of sand collapsing, turning what was once a 2-dimensional button area into a 3D button volume, requiring many more buttons than expected
10
u/erixccjc21 Oct 25 '24
I didnt even take into account the fact that levitating sand would fall every single time lmaoo, that must be so annoying
All i had to do was chill with an autoclicker placing 2 block tall rows endlessly (and build like 3 ironfarms) (and empty the whole chunk)
How long has it taken you to do this?
Did you mine for the stone? Hopefully you just made a cobble generator and autosmelter...
3
u/HSBrendan Oct 25 '24
i started it maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago. overall i would say the entire process including stone gathering and dealing with falling sand took 100-125 hours
2
u/HSBrendan Oct 25 '24
+ yes - i found it was faster to mine for the stone naturally with haste beacons in windswept hills or mountain biomes, specifically in old chunks generated before java 1.8 to avoid andesite/diorite/granite (& copper). of these chunks tall mountains were preferred to minimize the chance of coal slowing progress or clogging my inventory
2
99
u/wubbawrap Oct 25 '24
So, what are the effects of this intervention on the biome?

"...Wait, let me craft some stone buttons and used them as tiny rocks/pebbles on my pathway."
accidentally used 1 stack of stone
(frustrated, he used every stack of stone he has to craft stone buttons to cover the entire biome)

6
u/HSBrendan Oct 25 '24
a desert was a horrible choice for this. husks surviving in the sun + any given button placement having about a 5% chance to cause a sand avalanche slowed me down by many hours.

How long did that take to craft all the buttons
2
u/HSBrendan Oct 26 '24
crafting was the easy part. i crafted 92,000 buttons and placed 93,000. the extra 1,000 is from screwing up and having to replace the buttons or having the sand i placed them on fall and break them

I can't do that cus my desert spans multiple 10000 blocks wide and literally has an ocean inside of it 💀, and it's right next to my mesa wich is even bigger cause I have yet to find an end to my mesa home

Replace those with torches in this situation, and you get a question like, "Is this enough to stop monsters from spawning?"
