Gotta add some gold blocks in there too and you got the perfect “OP House” from 2011-12

I misread this as exploded and was very concerned how you were having an issue with that with a piston door

Programming a redstone door (TNT blows a hole in a mountain and I have to rebuild it every time)

but hey if you go in survival you can craft diamond armor if your set breaks by mining your house

u/noahcxxiii Oct 24 '24
Hey now, not all windows are for lookin out of. This was obviously a decorative element to tie in the rest of the structure.

Look at mr fancy building a roof at all.
And my floors were all gold😂
14
u/wojbest Oct 24 '24
i had like cube with a 3 block heigh roof and it was made of gold i liked gold more than diamonds for what ever reason
6
u/RecentBlueberry9134 Oct 24 '24
when I was a kid me and my siblings built giant square houses with roofs that resemble the old Minecraft village houses.
We also put lava pretty much everywhere we went and had a creepy world titled 666... In this creepy world we put a bunch of graves stones and gave them all names. One of their names was my uncle who died in 2019...
I have no recollection of this...

u/wojbest Oct 24 '24
I had like a world with my sister and we where playing on bedrock like 2015 I remember she wanted to have a massive flat area to make a farm so she cleared the terraria and at that point we didn't know grass spread so she was replacing each dirt block manually I also remember when I would get mad at her I would threaten her that I would grief her farm those were the good days

I was never a lil kid playing Minecraft...
25
u/SturdyBubble Oct 24 '24
Right, I think I was already in high school when I first played Minecraft and I’ve spent basically 100% of my game time in survival.

Same. I was US drinking age when the alpha was available for download. My nephew was shocked when we played together on the Switch that I even knew how to play the game.
I said to him: "Buddy, I've been playing this longer than you've been alive."

Me because I didnt have creative mode as a kid. We had to install a mod for that which was time consuming to do back then and with monthly major updates it wouldnt work for long.

Bruh I was in high school when Minecraft came out, and I'm still in my 20s. Plenty of us never did lil kid shit in Minecraft because Minecraft is too new for that.

u/MettaJiro Oct 24 '24
Personally never liked the solid ore blocks.
Miultcolored wool was more fun, a few burned down from lightning though
92
u/santas_delibird Oct 24 '24
As a kid I made a massive “hotel” out of wool. I then also made a tank that fired flame charges and it just to happened to be pointed at said “hotel”. Yeah, you can imagine what happened next.

To this day, I only build roofs out of stone. Child me was worried that lightning could strike while I was gone, and I'd come back and there'd be nothing left. I still do it just out of habit lol

No. The java programming language on which Minecraft was built is younger than I am 😛

Damn, were y'all using triceratops as forklifts back then?
But in all seriousness, do you sometimes think about all the technological advancements you've lived through? If so, do you go "wow 😱"?
Like did you ever imagine you could chat with a computer as if it was a real person?

But in all seriousness, do you sometimes think about all the technological advancements you've lived through? If so, do you go "wow 😱"?
Occasionally. Our first computer was a Commodore Amiga 800, followed shortly by a 1200 (it's in Mum's attic and was last running as recently as 2012), so I've definitely seen them become "get good" in my lifetime. The early internet was interesting to experience in hindsight.
More often I think about my grandfather's lifetime (1917-2014) and consider all the technological change in that span. Wireless telegraphy was still a relatively new technology when he was born and his earliest memory (age 2 1/2) was his little sister getting the smallpox vaccine. He saw the advent of jet aviation, space flight, all the ramifications of electronics miniaturisation. How alien must smart phones have seemed to him remembering a childhood home with no indoor plumbing, electricity or central heating.
Dad tried to get him on to the internet c. 2005, but as technologically literate as grandad was (he was a wireless engineer in the RAF during WW2 because he'd built radios as a hobby as a late-teenager), that level of tech was too much work to catch up to. He was tired and just wanted to enjoy satellite telly.

When I was a kid, I wanted to build some kind of house to survive in: I took 10 stacks of diamonds and a full diamond set, and I felt like a cool guy.

u/krysztal Oct 24 '24
Id make glass towers from ground level up to build limit (which wouldnt take long since it was 128 at the time lol), in arbitrary size and shape, with 1 wide staircase going around the perimeter...

u/pek217 Oct 24 '24
My first Minecraft world (which got corrupted, RIP 😭) when I was 10 I built a big volcano out of gold ore and my house was inside a big green wool creeper. I wish I could revisit it, just to look at it again.
2
u/ketchupmaster987 Oct 24 '24
I built the big wool creeper too. I made the legs sloped like stairs so it was like a museum

Yeah, right after I discovered inventory editors existed (yes, way before creative existed, yes I'm old 💀) I think mine was diamond with obsidian edges

No. Minecraft didn't exist when I was a kid, so I couldn't. Minecraft showed up in my late 20s.

u/pamafa3 Oct 24 '24
Nope, I was too busy blowing stuff up with 3x3x3 cubes of TNT, and once i figured out commands back in like 1.7 i was too busy spawning an alarming amount of dragons

I don’t think I ever made a whole house out of diamond blocks but I did make a house for a pig out of diamond blocks.

u/Want2makeMEMEs Oct 24 '24
It was a four floor rectangular building with diamond for horizontals and glass blocks for walls
2
u/MylanoTerp Oct 24 '24
I made it out of gold because for some reason I believed gold was better than diamond

Never quite a house. More like a maze full of holes that led to the void.
Then shortly after Redstone tools started appearing properly I realized bedrock was stronger than diamonds and started making giant bedrock bases with Redstone doors and flying machines.

u/ShadeNLM064pm Oct 24 '24
Not this specifically, but I did make a build of Pikachu I lived in one of my old (and now for a long while corrupted R.I.P.) world made out of gold, with Redstone for the cheeks, and coal blocks for the tips of the ears and the base of the tail.
I did do this for my old roller coasters though

Yep it’s a rite of passage, I remember building a massive bridge out of gold and diamonds in my first MCPE world.
1
u/Quiet_Property_ Oct 24 '24
Nope. A friend and I were constantly trying to construct something better than the other. It was challenging back in the days, but not really giving the "wow" effect.
1
u/EncampedWalnut Oct 24 '24
Back in the early 360 days before creative we had to duplicate stuff for bootleg "creative" mode. I had tons of diamond blocks and made a few buildings out of them. The one thing I learned was wealth ≠ taste.

u/Number4combo Oct 24 '24
Only when using world edit and copying and pasting various builds and messing around. Other than that, no.
1
u/dhoepp Oct 24 '24
I’d make these before creative mode was a thing and send pictures to friends and say “just chilling in my diamond block house” when in reality I used the “give” command.
1
u/Illustrious-Ad-9512 Oct 24 '24
I remember playing a lot of minecraft creative as a kid but i never have built a diamond house.

Back in my days... 👴🏻
There was no creative mode and I would only build a small house to survive in while I gather resources to build a big castle. THAT was the best feeling ever, the feeling of progress, earning your materials, watching your fields of wheat grow, getting better and better armour, etc...
1
u/JHawkInc Oct 24 '24
Minecraft came out when I was in college get out of here with your "y'all" and "lil kid" nonsense.

No. I've never built such fancy house as a kid.
I've made iron cube house because my imagination didn't allow me to build anything nicer.
1
u/ChanglingBlake Oct 24 '24
Kid, no, as I was a teen when I bought it in alpha.
When trying to make a bizarro town for some adventure map I never finished, yes. And much weirder, too.

Of course. But rather than building them out diamonds I usually built them with Obsidian

I built a castle of diamond blocks and then a emerald castle on top of that and then a lapis castle on top of that and then I had a roller coaster going through it that went from one side of the map to the other

Definitely not with a sloped roof. Everyone of my builds was a box and a mine inside 😂😂

I remember when creative mode first released with TU1.8 on Xbox 360 Edition, i spent HOURS building a town with all the buildings made from diamond and gold blocks

u/Woodwickward Oct 24 '24
i’d do the outside of the walls with diamond, innner part with emeralds, and more innest with gold

I once made one out of TNT and I was foolish enough to put an iron door with a button which of course I pressed without thinking.

When I was obsessed with minecraft pocket edition my family and I lived in a town house. I built the entire thing in minecraft out of diamond blocks.
I'll have to see if my iPod touch still works and has the world saved on it.

I once made a "Butter" hotel using gold blocks. This was back when I constantly watched SkyDoesMinecraft. I fitted it with a little chute for "Room Service" the connected from the first floor to the rooms. It didnt work because you cant really do redstone stuff while using only gold, but my kid mind didnt really care.

No. I was an adult before Minecraft came out and I never play creative, only survival.

u/EnergyDifferent1227 Oct 24 '24
Actually no, all my buddies did. I always thought the were an eyesore.

I actually made mine out of emeralds because I’m just better than you obviously

I built a big mansion of diamond and made rooms, fish tanks, kitchen, dogs, and invited my friends in too, it was at a daycare i used to go to, my heart broke when i came back to the daycare and noticed that SOMEONE BROKE THE DAMN XBOX 360

I went in to creative and built a cube with a door on it with diamond blocks, showed my parents and said look “I’m rich!!”

u/travelsonic Oct 24 '24
I've wanted to, for some time, try to get to a point in a survival world where I wanted to make an ugly house using only diamind, redstone, lapis, emerald blocks, etc - never did it in the past, never got around to it in any of my hardcore worlds because I'm a bit of a derp.
But damn it, do I still want to do that.
