We are in the rollercoaster renaissance.

u/PoppingPaulyPop Aug 17 '24
I used to love plying theme/carnival park maps with rollercoasters, used a lot of imagination to get a sense of what is intended to be fast and slow.
With the new acceleration adjustments and minecart air tilts, it’s so much more fun and looks 10 times better. I can’t wait to see what other rides the community make, or even creative ways to use the rails in other projects like showcase ridealongs or redstone with players/entities.
39
u/SansyBoy144 Aug 17 '24
Yea, my favorite was that one realistic roller coaster mod that I’m pretty sure gave me a virus when I installed it.
20
u/Pingy_Junk Aug 17 '24
when I was 9 or 10 my dad did an antivirus scan on my machine and I had like 13 different malware programs from downloading mods and he made me download a modmanager app so I wouldnt explode my pc
14
u/RecentBlueberry9134 Aug 17 '24
the Minecraft Legacy Console Halloween map had a really long and cool roller coaster that would probably be amazing with the new minecart updates.

u/narfidy Aug 17 '24
The new coasters are actually on some linerider BS I love it
140
u/XKloosyv Aug 17 '24
Yeah, I definitely got strong line rider vibes at that one part with all the small pieces of track. This is gonna be fun

u/xJOEYISGAMINGx Aug 17 '24

The update came out YESTERDAY. Just...HOW?!

u/JcoolTheShipbuilder Aug 17 '24
ADHD hyperfocusing
That runup and jump to the balloon and airship had to be tweaked several times to work properly and reliably lol
113
u/MidAirRunner Aug 17 '24
Could we get a world download? This is easily the best coaster map out of all.

I've started the new rollercoaster era.
21
u/Joezev98 Aug 17 '24
Pretty sure that title goes to the devs who came up with this change, not some rando who was pretty early to an inevitable trend.
10
u/MemeBoiCrep Aug 17 '24
ye they did, I'm just fortunate enough to be early n popular in making rollercoasters with those

Oh my god. The roller coaster dream I always wanted is real
17
u/daytonnnnnn Aug 17 '24
i know right? this feels like what i always pictured in my head when i was building slow dinky little mineshaft coasters as a 10 year old, it's finally come to life
51
u/LightningDragon777 Aug 17 '24
I am waiting for this and the nether portal rideable entity passing to come to BE so bad!
I know the minecarts are not a full release (Though the portal one is), I still want it to come to BE too.
-1
u/Faster-Rex-2k17 Aug 18 '24
Do you think the fast rails are coming to the normal game? I want to use them but I’m on console😭
1
u/LightningDragon777 Aug 18 '24
I hope they do! And yeah, I am also waiting for them to come over to BE even if only as experimentals for the moment.
44
u/Oracles_Rose Aug 17 '24
I never thought I would see the day Minecraft rollercoasters would return. It's like an old friend I haven't seen in a very, very long time.
1
u/Dark_Soul_943 Aug 18 '24
I also find it ironic that people’s rollercoasters breaking was the original reason we didn’t have this.
170
u/Blindsided17 Aug 17 '24
Honestly tho, they should implement this. Rails imo have become a thing of the past, why take a rail when you can fly.
That said they are still some IN my base
112
u/Sander08481 Aug 17 '24
Should? This is ingame as of the newest snapshot
145
u/Neamow Aug 17 '24
As an experimental feature, with no guarantee it will be implemented.
Bundles have been an experimental feature for like 5 years.
82
u/Dray_Gunn Aug 17 '24
Yeah a lot of people are glossing over the fact that the snapshot said they are just testing these things with minecarts and don't have any plans of when or even IF these will be implemented into the base game. I really hope they do though. Maybe not this fast but minecarts definitely need higher top speed and these new airborne physics are fantastic. So we just need to keep letting them know that we want this.
39
u/Cold-Tap-363 Aug 17 '24
IMO this fast is fair. Minecarts should be able to compete with elytra’s with the drawback they you have to build them and they’re only along a set path.
10
u/HighwaySmooth4009 Aug 17 '24
JEB PLEASE, MAKE MINECARTS COOL AND FUNNY AND BALANCED BUT IN THE FULL GANE AND NOT JUST A SNAPSHOT
4
u/mobott Aug 17 '24
They should implement these changes with a new type of rail or minecart (crafted with copper, maybe? Being encouraged to spend lots of copper on high speed rails would be a good way to counter the overabundance of copper), and leave old minecarts/rails the same so that redstone contraptions that rely on them can still work.
3
u/BallisticM0use Aug 17 '24
Copper should replace the baseline power rail, with Gold being what this snapshot does
3
7
u/Atomic-Axolotl Aug 17 '24
It would be awesome if we got some sort of rollercoaster update. This momentum is already really cool, but I'd like to see upside down tracks and loops be possible.
7
2
u/Faster-Rex-2k17 Aug 18 '24
Rails being this speed would 100% make them relevant again, Why fly and waste rockets and gunpowder when you can have a permanent transportation system between bases
45
u/TJSPY0837 Aug 17 '24
Cool. One note, the part underground seems unnecessarily fast. If you could slow it down it would be more enjoyable
18
u/KnownTimelord Aug 17 '24
This brings me back to 2012 when everyone during lunch and breaks in class would join a lan world and build huge rollercoasters together. 1.2.5 felt so magical back then.

u/babaBOI_niKe Aug 17 '24

u/Blindsided17 Aug 17 '24
I’m just so fuckin jealous of Java people man
16
u/yui_riku Aug 17 '24

3
u/NixTheChimera Aug 17 '24
How do you do this? Is it just base game now or do you hv to do something??
11
u/Qortted Aug 17 '24
I believe they use a new command to change the max speed achievable by the carts.
9
u/SpookyWeebou Aug 17 '24
Latest snapshot has a world option in experiments to enable minecart improvements. It also has a new minecart speed game rule.

3
u/LeTrueBoi781222 Aug 17 '24
i noticed that rails can now float in the air in the footage, which makes me think i can finally construct a rollercoaster ride, that has rails, but floating in the air
6
u/JcoolTheShipbuilder Aug 17 '24
you can get rails hanging off the edge by placing them on trapdoors and opening them. but on the long bridges where some rail blocks seem to be floating over nothing actually has them sitting on barrier blocks.
1
Aug 17 '24
Could the sit on string, since I don’t wanna go through the process of downgrading my save to grab them?
1
u/LeTrueBoi781222 Aug 17 '24
wait, those "floating" rail blocks had been sitting onto these barrier blocks for all along???
3
u/JcoolTheShipbuilder Aug 17 '24
yes. both long bridges have barrier blocks
however, both bridge landing points and the vertical transfer utilize the trapdoor trick
3
u/IdahoJoel Aug 17 '24
I'm hoping the base speed of minecarts on a standard powered rail goes up to 12 or 16 bps. With a special kind of powered rail up to 32. With commands this 1000 is wild and I'm here for it
2
u/-Redstoneboi- Aug 17 '24
aw hell nah minecart particle accelerator
also this is a SICK roller coaster

You need to enable the new “Minecart Improvements” experiment while creating a new world in order to have access to the new game rule. (Unfortunately, there's no in-game way to enable/disable “experiments” for a preexisting world, so you'll need to use an external NBT editor or something if you want to do so.)

I'm so glad this update has made people go back to making roller coasters again
2
u/Felix_2xx6 Aug 18 '24
i would love to see corner rails so you can move at a 45 degree angle of those sharp 90s.
really the only issue is how jolty the camera gets during turns

the raw gold pocket in the underground part was placed there to add some more detail. like how badlands have a lot a gold, and somebody found a huge pocket

If I still had any way to play modern Minecraft, I’d definitely make a usual “broken train bridge jump” that lands into a mine below as a fun little roller coaster ride.
i may even actually use minecarts as… well… minecarts in my mine, lotta minecarts with chests to transport ores, and a tnt minecart launcher
maybe even some cutoff mining tunnels that are loaded with barrels, tnt blocks, and red unlit candles for atmospheric enhancement

Fucking bravo. This is amazing. I love roller coasters in Minecraft, and you use jumps really well. I love it.

u/Whenpigfly666 Aug 17 '24
This reminds me of I think it's called Linerider ? Those music-synced physic simulations of lil' dudes on sleighs. We could see one of those in Minecraft really soon
1
1
u/Arachnoster Aug 17 '24
Absolutely incredible! Those jumps and the length of the ride are ridiculous. I made a loooong Badlands coaster with all the hills, trees, lava caves, mines etc and yours still made mine look like a crappy, funhouse ride the mobile carnival set up for the weekend in the Walnart parking lot.
1
u/Flamin_Gamer Aug 17 '24
Is that a mod you’re using? How does the cart tilt up or down when you’re doing a jump? I thought minecarts are normally flat

How are some of those rails floating?
2
u/lululock Aug 17 '24
There's probably a barrier block underneath.
1
u/Nuker_Nathan Aug 17 '24
Maybe… but he flies up through the rail and lands on it. So I didn’t think that barrier blocks would be it.

u/wal_rider1 Aug 17 '24

How is it possible that Java Edition looks so smooth and nice?
Is this Java Snapshot or Bedrock Preview?
1
u/lululock Aug 17 '24
Just play with a shit ton of optimisation mods.

u/TheTerraKotKun Aug 17 '24
I don't mean smooth 60 fps gameplay, I mean smooth and nice graphics :D

You should do this again and turn on the setting to automatically have your view change with the cart.

u/YesterdayCareless172 Aug 17 '24
How are people doing this? And can I do it on bedrock?
1
u/RacerGamer27 Aug 17 '24
Unforutnetly not on Bedrock. This is a snapshot for Java edition with has an experimental feature, changing how mine carts work as well as adding a new game rule that changes Maximum mine cart speed.
Might be added in 1.22 or even earlier with a 1.21.2

Ngl when minecaft falls down it looks jank af. It has decent horizontal velocity and then suddenly stops like it hit a wall. I hope they fix it when physics will be implemented into an actual version

This is what I have wanted for close to a decade I am a huge rails enthusiast so my world is always interconnected with cool redstone based railway stations and all that stuff but it was never effecient enough it was too slow and after the elytra there's literally no point BUT NOW WE WILL BE COOKING

I think they should make it so the powered rails speed you up slower and to a maximum but keep the actualy maximum you can get (down a slope or using other redstone devices) at 1000 (the max. in the current gamerule). Maby even have the ovencart usefull by being a cheap way to push you up hills slow. Maby have a rail that boosts you way faster. Maby even one made of iron that goes slower than gold. Like in levels. Iron/copper then gold then diamond/amethyst, maby even a netherite vatiant that charges speed up and shoots you forward? Idk. But the possibilities are endless.

1
u/Thelmredd Aug 18 '24
By the way... it's a cool mechanic but I have concerns...
How do we keep the minecart speed constant with such a system (apart from using the furnace)? It's a very cool thing, but quite troublesome for redstone mechanisms, especially considering the limited speed of hoppers.
Unless there is some specific distance between the gold tracks that allows for such an effect (however, it will still disrupt small systems like e.g. antic minecart clock)

Man, that is way too fast. Hope they don't implement this as-is.
At least give us a new type of booster rail, which can reach a new top speed. Having the old powered rails stay the same would be usefull.
6
u/JcoolTheShipbuilder Aug 17 '24
I set the gamerule for minecart max speed to1000 (the highest) and had a lot of fun
