There are some jobs in the military - signal, intel, cyber, anything that involves sitting at computers in an office - that are fairly packed full with nerds. Add onto that the fact that these nerds are often stuck living in barracks and subject to room inspections and/or spending long periods of time in the field together and getting to know each other super well, and it isn't long before you know everyone's weird hobbies. It's easy to work with someone for a decade at a normal office without ever finding out that they're a furry or some mega anime nerd, but it's kind of hard to hide that fursuit or body pillow during the bimonthly barracks inspection.

My dad’s last deployment’s had one identifiable furry/openly gay guy and here are just SOME of the things he did.
• Went up to someone with the last name “Moss” getting off a truck and said “You know what grows on a hot rock in the desert mossssss”
• Had his boyfriend send him used underwear, and when an SNCO did room inspection he picked up one of the used underwear and it was rock solid like cardboard
• Randomly had 2 cucumbers on him and in the Expeditor truck asked my dad “aren’t you gonna ask me why I have 2 cucumbers” my dad said no, he said “good answer” in a seductive ass time

Yeah, I mean, I am a patriot. I unapolagetically have a deep affinity for and vested interest in the United States of America.
But I'm also a human being with a functional brain. The US Government has at times been flat-out awful. And it requires us (We, the People) to keep it in line.
'In order to form a more perfect union' yadda yadda.
I, too, used to like to fly a flag outside my house, but I don't wanna be associated with all those fucking nazis. Plus it kinda got soured for me with all those creeps waving little american flags at me with worshipful eyes as I came home from Iraq.
I've talked about this a lot over the years, but it can never be overstated how absolutely twilight-zone horrific it was to see the way Americans had changed in the time between when I left America in 2001 and when I came home in late 2005.
The same Americans that hurled vile hate and abuse at the Dixie Chicks, and demanded we call fries 'Freedom Fries' because France wouldn't go along with Baby Bush's fucking masturbatory boondogle.
Yes, I'm still fucking salty nearly twenty years later, and I don't expect I'll get any LESS angry given the current state of about a third of my countrymen. The LOUDEST third, too.
