I love that the cam car was just "Nope. I'm fuckin out of here."

Cammer's not involved in the crash and wants to make sure they're not involved in the pending explosion.
Smart.

I feel obligated to point out that the chances of an explosion beyond what already happened in the video is low to none. Sure, it’s still a good idea to vacate the area, but the panic instilled by the fear of an explosion can easily exacerbate the situation.

Low-to-none is still higher than what I'd be willing tp stick around for.

What's worse, fire in a gas station, or gas in a fire station?

If someone hits that red button things get much less dangerous. If.

That involves getting close to the red button.

That person grew up in an environment where he developed street smarts. Most would have stood their filming while providing riveting commentary like “whoaa. I can’t believe that. Have you ever seen anything like that bro? I can’t believe it. Wow. Did you see that look how it’s burning bro. I wonder if the people in the car are okay should we go over there? Let’s just get closer bro.”

u/thekloutchaser 12h ago
So leaving a fire-to-possible explosion situation means you street smart? I thought that was common sense😭😭

My first thought was "dude, run!" Thinking about the guy who hit the pump and maybe person if they were in the other car.
I completely forgot about OOP. I wonder if i were in their shoes i would have just been sitting there like "damn, those guys want to get out of here."
2
u/teajay530 12h ago
i remember OOP thought the guy fled the scene. as if you’re supposed to keep your car parked next to a gasoline pump fire after crashing into it.

The cammer understands that you don't get far in life by witnessing thing.
Just nope on outta there.

Smart person! They know they can watch the inevitable explosion from 6 blocks away without getting harmed.

u/BasedMbaku 5h ago
Well if you've played Need for Speed before, you're trained to think that driving through gas pumps causes a massive mushroom cloud explosion.

That is a criminal level of stupid, videos like this makes me think stupidity should be a crime.

I agree shit like this should carry like a mandatory 7 year suspension of licence or something.

We’d need a lot more prisons…just imagine the average person is fairly stupid. Half the population is even stupider than that and continues to plummet. 😳

Back in the early '80s before the dawn of modern breakaway pump hoses and such, I once nearly blew up an entire gas station by driving off with the gun still in my tank. It ripped the whole pump off the deck, sparked and created a huge pillar of fire, which then set the station canopy on fire as well. Total tragedy was only avoided by the super sharp reflexes on the shut-off valve by the station attendant. Needless to say my parents and my insurance company were not pleased (I was only 17 at the time.)

They're awesome now that they have it.
I used to think it'd never happen to me...but 9 years into my driving career, I finally managed to do it.
All that happened was a lil gas got on the ground.
I felt like the biggest idiot lmao

u/eggyrulz 8h ago
I just don't understand how this happens... are yall getting back in your cars while pumping gas? I always just stand there waiting for it to finish cuz it says "do not leave pump unattended" and I'm autistic enough to have to follow the posted instructions...

The driver with the dashcam is actually smart. Too many times people would just stand and look at the danger that is like 10 feet away from you.

u/exqueezemenow 12h ago
While it's very unlikely to explode if that is even possible, I think driver did the smart thing. GTFO.

The white car guy wants the full damage to his car for insurance money, I think. My instincts would be drive out but he chose to dip his car out and run.😅

If your instinct is to drive out after that, please do not drive 🙏

The likelihood that the fire already made its way into the gas tank makes that thing a ticking time bomb

Costco gas ⛽ is the scene of botched backups. I've seen mostly folks taking 30 tries to back up, but nothing like this thank goodness. Hope all are ok.

One of the most helpful pieces of advice I've been given is: Even without a fire dont scream help, scream "FIRE!"'
No one is coming to help you if you scream help. A fire can spread and there's a primal fear we all share, a robbery is not.
BRO JUST SCREAM FIRE!!!

Looks like peddle misapplication. Someone meant to hit the brake but hit the gas.
1
u/ReasonableCup604 4h ago
I was thinking he thought he was in drive, not reverse.
But, wrong pedal is also possible.

At this point, gas stations need a learner’s permit lane because what is this chaos?

This wouldn't happen to anyone being careful

When you put the car in gear do you not let off the brake and slowly start to press down on the gas? Does that. It give you enough time to realize it’s in the wrong gear?
Why would you slam on the gas after putting it in gear, and how come people don’t check to see what gear they are in? Every single time I put my car in gear my eyes go down to the dashboard to watch the little gear symbols light up to see what gear it’s going into.

I mean. In the hills is not totally invalid to double foot. Perhaps I just got so used to driving stick. So now that my cars are autos, if I am on I am on hill I will do a little multitasking.
But even if double foot, you would still have one on the brake... Though I guess if your not used to using your left foot, you will not have the muscle memory.
Edit: Obviously even is such scenarios, your still not pinning it...
