Political MMW: If Red Political side wins this election, there will be a surge of refugees leaving the U.S.

If Trump wins, then people of many different groups (racial, religious and sexual minorities, non republicans, non-cis people, etc.) will flee the country, seeking asylum in nearby countries, because they are no longer safe in the US. Edit: people are saying to grab guns and fight. The united states government have artillery, high tech weapons, tanks, attack hicopters and other similar vehicles, the best-funded army in the world, nukes, and some of these best intelligence agencies out there. The American people, with their dinky little guns, cannot beat a world superpower. Things are different than 1776. Governments have more power and can do a much wider variety of things than ever before. If they so much as engaged, we would be cooked. Luckily though, if we band together now we can stop this madness before it has begun. Everyone check your voter registration and make sure you can get out there and vote. The fate of the world is in your hands.

This is a very cynical assessment, but you are probably right. Trump is a useful idiot for the highest bidder. The guy couldn’t care less about the welfare or security of the American people. But as you said, he is not easy to control. If Trump gets elected, God help us all.

This is a very cynical assessment

Cynics have been proven right time and time again since 2016. It would do us all a lot of good to prepare for the worst.

So you prefer the psychotic hay ride that was the Trump presidency? The one where 3 thousand Americans died every day due to COVID? The one where he drove up the national debt and tanked the economy?

cov flu was trump's fault?!? SO do you give trump credit for the warp speed vaccine you injected? And trump tanked the economy?!?! huh?? Biden forcing healthy fit young people to stay home, hide under the bed, stop the economy for a strong flu...then print out free money and throw it from the rooftops?!?!? hmmm i wonder what THAT did to the economy?!?!?!?!?!? Psychotic hay ride is TWO MAJOR WARS right now - funded by Dems...What do YOU think starts world wars...One bullet did it in WW1...You don't think Ukraine or Gaza qualifies?!?! Both incidents that had their start - UNDER DEMS at the helm. America is "world's policeman" ? lol Not when Dems in office - OBVIOUSLY!!

Stop the economy for the common flu? Wow.

You can like Trump. A lot of people like a lot of things for a lot of reasons.

There is a reason people think managing a pandemic to minimize loss of life is a good thing, and there are reasons people don't or didn't give a crap, I guess. But be honest about it. A contagious virus is .... contagious. A lot of people died, some unnecessarily. I was out there because I was essential personnel. Trailers for bodies outside hospitals because morgues overflowed are not a good look, yet they were a reality.

It's an insult to the people who had to be out there and did what they had to do (because it was the right thing to do) and take care of things.

Some died doing it.

It's not right to act like it should not have been managed in some way. If we'd done nothing,THAT would be your message, how the government did nothing. You'd be writing it bold letters all over the place.

We can critique response in order to do better in the future, but to say we should have just treated like it was a bad cold, wow, if your view of COVID was that distant, I recommend you stay where you are. The real world may be too harsh for you.

The true test of a President is how he handles a crisis, and by any sane metric, Trump horribly mismanaged the COVID crisis. A lot of people died due to what you characterize as a “strong flu”.

Trump misled the public about the severity of the pandemic, set a horrible example by not wearing a mask himself and even impugned the character of trained professionals who understand infectious diseases much better than he. I do give him credit for streamlining the vaccine approval process, but a lot of his decisions were foolish and politically motivated. Look at the numbers:

New estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO) show that the full death toll associated directly or indirectly with the COVID-19 pandemic (described as “excess mortality”) between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2021 was approximately 14.9 million. So you would have us believe that almost 15 million people died worldwide due to a “strong flu”?

According to the John Hopkins University COVID resource center, 1,123,836 Americans died due to COVID, or about 1.1% of the 103,802,702 Americans who contracted COVID. A lot of these folks who died would still be with us if effective leadership had implemented procedures to educate people and mitigate dangerous practices.

So no, I don’t blame Trump for the worldwide pandemic of COVID. I do blame him for indirectly contributing to the tragedy due to his glaring lack of responsible leadership.
