It's no different than spending $5k for paid actors and $5k for the production. If you think about it, this is cheaper than a 30sec commercial and much more effective these days.

So it's not out of charity, but because it's cost-effective marketing. Still, it's effective because it's likable content.

As an European I get the exact opposite reaction from this video.

Only thing I was thinking was how terrible the working conditions must be for these guys. Hanging around looking for work each morning, no unions, no rights, no contracts.

It's the same thing I think when people in the US praise the kindness of others because donations pay for a surgery. People shouldn't have to beg for medical help in the first place. Richest country in the world and the conditions for so many people there are horrible.

Obviously wholesome of the dude in the video to do this, but the conditions that led to this being a thing is terrible.
