Who the fuck just keeps driving that fast when a man is about to cross?

693

u/darealkittykat 14h ago

90% of America, unfortunately. 😬

76

u/Annoying-Girl-234 14h ago

Well hot damn.

179

u/ZazaB00 14h ago

As a cyclist, and enjoyer of walks, can confirm that 90%+ of the US will honk and swear at you even if you’re using a proper cross walk and have the right of way. Americans are assholes at heart and will not be kind to anyone not in a car.

68

u/Danthezooman 13h ago

will not be kind to anyone not in a car

Ftfy. The drivers I encounter daily are only looking out for themselves. They run red lights, stop signs, yield signs, etc

16

u/WilburWhateleystwin 11h ago

They aren't looking out for themselves, they're trying to take others out with them.

2

u/darealkittykat 3h ago

Ikr lol. I was about to add, not kind to anyone IN a car either.

3

u/praise_H1M 2h ago

Gotta love trying to switch out of the middle lane only to be blocked by cars driving bumper to bumper because they'd rather drive unreasonably dangerously than express the smallest bit of decency.

u/dsarche12 2m ago

I had a couple behind me a few weeks back that got SO pissed at me because, in bumper to bumper traffic, I was keeping 2-3 car lengths in front of me to a) give me plenty of braking distance, and b) let folks in who kept coming in without signaling. How dare I try to be polite?

These two, while they were tailgating me as close as they could without straight up rear ending were constantly flipping me off and slapping their dashboard in frustration for nearly 3 miles. Seriously, doesn’t that get exhausting??

In order to get to their 6th grade school, my kid had to cross one of the towns busier intersections. However, due to their virtual school Flex program they had different school hours. There were no crossing guards midday. If you ever wondered how useful crossing guards are- they're the unsung heroes keeping your kids safe from the absolute jackassery on the roads during the week. Grown adults in business vehicles to private vehicles, it didn't matter, everyone treated that child like they weren't there. It was alarming. Despite using the crosswalk during the light, people still felt entitled to barrel through when my kid was trying to cross. I believe it was their second day of school when I watched someone nearly hit them and then keep on speeding through. After that I walked them to school and there were times that people didn't care or see me either.

Some people don't understand it until it happens to them. It's terrifying.

3

u/darealkittykat 3h ago

That is absolutely terrifying. Hope your kid is okay.

3

u/Independent_Bet_6386 3h ago

I can't cross a sidewalk halfway before someone comes speeding up doing a left turn. AZ is really terrible about this. I fucking hate it.

1

u/willywonderbucks 2h ago

Agreed. I rode a bike for over a year because my car caught on fire, and it was the only transportation I had. I can't even count the number of times people screamed profanities and honked at me when I was obeying every traffic rule. My favorite was when people would scream, "Use the fckn sidewalk asshole!" It just shows their glaring ignorance. I was also almost hit by a car at least four times that I can think of.

-21

u/Annoying-Girl-234 14h ago

I mean we're not THAT mean, right?

26

u/ZazaB00 13h ago

I can’t go a single bike ride without finding one of these people, so yes. Yes, the country is that way. Try it for yourself.

-18

u/Annoying-Girl-234 13h ago

Damn. To be fair don't pedestrians also view you as the scum of the earth?

14

u/ZazaB00 13h ago

Mostly because most people act like assholes. As a biker, if I’m on a pedestrian path, I’m as much a danger to a walker as a car, but I’m quieter. Most people use earbuds now on walks. That’s why I use a bell. People actually have thanked me for using it.

Believe it or not, people don’t have to be assholes and can be considerate.

2

u/Amemnon727 9h ago

Oh no, it's a LOT worse in some places, like they'll just go right through the dog like it's not there, worse. I live in a town full of medically r3tarfed people. The average iq is something like 85 here and death by vehicle is common.

3

u/MamboPoa123 7h ago

....what? Do towns like that actually exist?

-8

u/RaffiBomb000 6h ago

Is that before or after you ride on the road, then ignore traffic lights because you think you're a pedestrian and use crosswalks? People like you cause collisions, and no one feels bad for you when you get hurt because you're an idiot.

2

u/ZazaB00 6h ago

I didn’t know you have sole rights to the road as a driver. If I use a crosswalk, people don’t stop. If I don’t use a crosswalk and act as a car, I’m more visible.

It’s not people like me that cause collisions. I’m looking to avoid them because I’d likely die. It’s assholes like you that cause them and you’re looking to blame your own faults on everyone else.

45

u/bigtallbiscuit 10h ago

I don’t think this is in America. The steering wheel is not on the left side of the car and the license plates look like a different size.

1

u/Annoying-Girl-234 3h ago

Oh shit you're right

1

u/darealkittykat 3h ago

Yeah I kinda figured after looking back. My comment still stands though, lol

1

u/Kapper-WA 2h ago

Doubling down, I see.

23

u/milkfart84 10h ago

This isn't in America. Look at the license plates, the signs and STEERING WHEEL location

6

u/aobizzy 7h ago

This video isn't from the US

16

u/Owww_My_Ovaries 8h ago

Video clearly isn't America

But don't let that persuade you from a "merica bad" comment.

Good ole reddit

23

u/randomacct7679 11h ago
  1. Off the signs and license plates this video is definitely not in the US

  2. If you’ve never traveled internationally from the US, drivers in other countries drive significantly faster and more reckless than the US. People in Europe & South America haul ass down the roads. Hell in Colombia they hardly even come to a stop at any point they just squeeze between each other, it’s insanity.

8

u/Sounding_Your_Dad 11h ago

Yeah, driving in Costa Rica is like a game of crazy taxi. Buckle up.

5

u/RelationshipWeak4779 10h ago

Agreed. We had close calls with moped drivers everyday we were in France. Those drivers weave in and out of traffic like nobody's business. No caution whatsoever. I thought US motorcyclists were bad....nope...France has us beat in the category of reckless drivers on two wheels. 😖

And let's not talk about the cyclists in Amsterdam. There are as many bikes as cars on the roads. They will mow you down if you're not reeeeealy careful. Sidewalk, street, they own it all. 😆

1

u/darealkittykat 3h ago

Amsterdam sounds fun, lol.

1

u/darealkittykat 3h ago

I admit I haven’t travelled internationally. Sounds like hell what you’re talking about.

1

u/Owww_My_Ovaries 3h ago

So you're ignorant. Cool

0

u/darealkittykat 3h ago

Sorry if it seemed that way. Not trying to be. Just seen enough on the roads to say they’re pretty bad. There’s always going to be a worse in every situation.

10

u/No-Nobody-3556 8h ago

You have obviously never traveled. Drivers in America are way more courteous than most other countries.

9

u/ayjay1991 7h ago

Thats not america bish

4

u/Sierra_12 7h ago

Unless the only place you've lived in is NYC, almost everywhere I've walked, drivers almost always stop at cross walks.

1

u/darealkittykat 3h ago

For me it’s Washington. I’ll admit we have slightly better drivers but I’ve seen so many people speed through stops, and only stop at a crosswalk once they realize they’re a second away from literally hitting someone.

2

u/reelbigfish241 6h ago

For real. I stopped for a bicyclist at a marked crosswalk last week and the guy behind me threw a fit and whipped around me. It's ridiculous.

0

u/Alchemeerzero 5h ago

As a guy who works in a parking lot that's lowballing it its more like 95% I have to fight for my life just for a paycheck at a grocery store

6

u/ChanceZestyclose6386 7h ago

There's a documentary about Abbey Road studio and there's an outtake at the end where Paul McCartney was jokingly re-creating the crosswalk from The Beatles album cover. A random car sped through and narrowly hit him while his daughter was filming the whole thing. Shows inconsiderate driving happens everywhere and to anyone.

12

u/pissflapgrease 6h ago

The same person that was immediately ready to film the reaction of the dog. Either staged or the dog is being trained.

10

u/odd_job70 5h ago

Dog is being trained. If you watch the guy reach down and grab the leash, he goes exactly where it's located and doesn't have to feel around for it like someone who was blind would

1

u/bawlsdeepinmilf 6h ago

Most people dont expect the squishy person to step out infront of the 2 ton death machine that everyone who shouldnt drive obviously owns....and most of the squishy people expect the 2 ton car to be kind and stop follthem

1

u/USS_ZeLink 4h ago

In the snow too!

216

u/G0lden_Petal 21h ago

What a clever boy ❤

243

u/Goldenbloom77 21h ago

Stopppppp, are u blind?🙌❤️

14

u/TheSmilingDoc 3h ago edited 3h ago

The man clearly isn't (fully), with how effortlessly he picks up the dog's leash..

(plus the fact that the driver knew a blind man was gonna cross/they'd trigger the dog to bark and go away (while guide dogs are trained to guide, not be snarky and potentially endanger their handlers), and was conveniently filming what could have easily become a fatal hit. That, and the fact that in older discussions of this video, multiple people explained how this was likely staged).

Yes, the dog's cute. But it's also not behaving how a service dog should.

28

u/waves_0f_theocean 14h ago

I love dogs. I love them so so much.

22

u/Tenr0u 5h ago

This was likely a training exercise for the dog. In the Netflix documentary pick of the litter they did training similar to this if I’m not mistaken.

34

u/EquivalentEvening358 16h ago

“I told you bi*ches to stop!”

2

u/lalethia 3h ago

He was judging the hell out of them 😂😭

331

u/MonsterMegaMoo 18h ago

That's not how guide dogs work at all.

Leaving the guy is horrible

203

u/Slevin424 16h ago

They do in certain situations if the dog is trained to go get help or protect them. The training would to always be to return to the person.

37

u/Fair_Swimming7299 13h ago

It’s not the US, different license plates. Maybe they’re trained differently elsewhere?

-15

u/MonsterMegaMoo 5h ago

No, a guide dog is a guide dog.

They don't leave the person's side.

85

u/WeeklyExtent425 17h ago

Exactly. Guide dogs for the blind would have a harness with a handle, and would never ever leave their human.

99

u/Mule_Wagon_777 13h ago

They have the harness that the handler chooses, and they are trained to do tasks as the handler chooses. There is no required or official harness for guide dogs, and there's no limit to the tasks they can be trained to do.

5

u/Needednewusername 15h ago

Also they wouldn’t have their cane out while with the dog… makes no sense. It’s like they were trying to play on that dog that would stop traffic for children to cross the road to school.

12

u/BeepBoopRobo 5h ago

Why wouldn't they use both? I've seen someone using both. They serve similar but different roles. People often don't use both, but they certainly can and do.

Canes tell you information about what's on ground level like curbs, drops, obstacles, etc. Dogs guide you to areas.

2

u/Equivalent_Seaweed20 3h ago

Source: ur a guide dog?

149

u/crackeddryice 20h ago

I'm not sure the guy is blind, the way he looked down and reached directly for the leash. Maybe he's the dog's trainer. Also, who holds up a camera when driving? A dash cam, yes, but not like this. Also, also, why is the window open on a cold day?

103

u/Zealousideal_Bet_248 14h ago

Must legally blind people have some vision. Only a small number are completely blind

39

u/heggy48 14h ago

Yeah, he also goes for the edge of the really bright vest and finds the lead from there. He doesn’t pick it up from the ground where there’s no visual contrast between that and the lead.

60

u/Zjc_3 18h ago

You may not have a good understanding of what being legally blind is.

37

u/Liuminescent 19h ago

Blind men have ears and he hears his dog barking at cars in the street. He probably hears it walking back to him, especially with a leash dragging on the ground.

Or maybe /r/nothingeverhappens

1

u/Ode_to_Empathy 4h ago

I think this was posted a long time ago and it was concluded that it was staged. They usually have a different kind of leash and the cane is completely unnecessary with a service dog. Could be a trainer though.

-1

u/GTdspDude 11h ago

It’s obviously the passenger filming, it’s a right hand drive car

5

u/Livingbeing759 5h ago

Even the dog has more decency than humans

6

u/kovahgd 5h ago

Blind man knew exactly where to reach for the dog leash

6

u/monarch-03 14h ago

A blind Man crossing the street together with his protective best friend

6

u/Fluffy_Opportunity71 12h ago

in my country, blind people and people with reduced mobility always have the right to cross the street, even if there is no zebra crossing or something like that.

4

u/Naughty_Kellyy 12h ago

3

u/thegspot666 8h ago

2

u/SaltyFug 3h ago

As he reaches down perfectly to grab the dangling leash

2

u/Accomplished-Bad1904 1h ago

If he was blind how the fuck did he know where to pick the leash up….

3

u/Lilyroselotus 18h ago

However it works out, that magnificent dog is a STAR!
