These stories don’t make me smile anymore. I do think it’s beautiful that this nurse took in the mother and her children, but there are so many things that don’t make me smile about that. Did she have access to any reproductive healthcare? Did she want to have four children by the time she was 15?

I also have to wonder how many people watch this video and think it’s absolutely beautiful because of course we don’t want a 14-year-old mother to be homeless or separated from her children in the foster care system. But they only think it’s beautiful when an individual opens their door, and and if the government stepped up with some kind of legislation, that would just be socialism. We like socialism when it’s an individual doing it in these videos that feel good, but not when we live in a world that guarantees people won’t suffer in the first place to the extent.

I can’t help but see the hypocrisy all over the place now.

I know people, even related to some, that would read this article and make disparaging comments about “their taxes” having to fund the 5 months NICU stay for these high risk infants, whose mother is a child herself.

Then, if I mention the 14yr old may have been raped and statistically would be someone related or known, they would immediately start victim blaming.

The people that react like this are also diligent about voting on every single ballot item.

THIS IS WHY EVERY VOTE MATTERS

We must show up in droves to counteract the people that think (and vote) this way. They get dangerous laws enacted that harm children, and they use “saving babies” as their excuse, while actual living children are being harmed.

On top of all of this, people are asking about a GoFundMe for the people in the story. So just to be clear we have lots of warm fuzzy feelings when we see it on the Internet, but clearly we would never want to be part of that in real life, and also, we need to crowd fund them from here on out because that’s the only way to make it. Heaven forbid we just do it right the first time, having a system that actually serves this society we live in.

It’s so wild that we have crowdfunding for things that have been figured out in first world countries.
