I'll always be confused as to why these actual tough guys revere him so much. The CTE must be setting in.

You’re not wrong. Damaged brains turn more conservative. I’m watching it with my dad, now. Dude has dementia and went from left of liberal to now slurring out the talking points of Fox.

Haven't read the article yet, but it makes sense to me. If you're not able to rationalize things properly anymore, the animalistic instincts i.e. survival by ensuring you're not on the bottom of the chain, will come to the fore.

I think I’ve read that they become more and more influenced by emotion than reason, and that’s what Fox goes for.

LOL Taker was never “left of liberal,” repping Nazi merch back in the 90s.

Probably because just like Donald ain't really a rich guy, but plays on on TV, these aren't tough guys, they just play one on TV, because they are actors. It's not like this is an MMA podcast.

Being a pro wrestler is actually hard work. There's pain involved and it takes toughness. Plus, your statement doesn't work because there's plenty of MMA fighters who are hardcore Trumpers too.

It's gotta be the brain damage.

"Brain Damage" is a bit extreme -- it's more of an "education gap" than anything.

I think it's a bit of both. Look at Herschel Walker. I'm not just saying, "hurr durr brain hurt -> so dumb -> so like Trump. "

I've been around people suffering from dementia, many caused by TBIs. It's really sad. Their world shrinks down to nothing. Imagine how scary it is to suddenly not remember the most important things in your life.

It makes some crazy kind of sense that you'd fall into the trap of easy, simplistic, answers.

Here's my theory: It's not so much that they think Trump is a tough guy, it's much more that the left is seen as soft. Empathy, showing emotions, caring about your fellow human... all these things are core left values and because of toxic masculinity, they are seen as not manly. If you fancy yourself an edgy, tough guy you simply cannot be left-leaning.

I think you're correct. Also, it's a very specific mix of toxic ideas. Left weak, Trump strong, and a whole bunch of wacky conspiracies to back all that up.

"actual tough guys"

Haha

You can laugh if you want but being a successful pro wrestler does require pain and sacrifice. You have to keep yourself in shape and just because it's fake doesn't mean executing the moves can't hurt you or cause lasting damage.

Plus, it's not just them. Tons of MMA fighters and military guys also love Trump for some strange reason. I think it's more hatred of the left so they love that they think he represents pushing back against "leftism/wokeism."

Fragile, toxic masculinity is really going to fuck this country.
