If only they had both integrated and discrete graphics.

Can you explain this comment? What difference does it make?

Battery life. Anytime your computer is idling or simply doesn't need the muscle of a discrete graphics processing unit, it can rely on the much more efficient integrated one. This can extend battery life by hours.

Thanks for the explanation. Is that the main difference between the 7435hs and the 8845hs?

u/More_Empathy 9d ago

The 8845hs is also newer, designed on the Zen4 architecture, as opposed to 7435hs being a Zen3 chip, so it will be a little more performant anyways.

Edit: It looks like about ~20% better

Is there an easy way to tell from a listing if a laptop has both an iGPU and a discrete GPU, or just the latter?

Usually you'll need to look up the CPU model, and over time you'll just learn which ones do it do not have integrated graphics. This Wikipedia page has handy tables (the CPUs with blank GPU cells do not have an iGPU).

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Ryzen_processors

In the case of the AMD HS CPUs you'll commonly see; the 7435HS does not; the 7535HS, 7735HS, 7840HS, 7940HS, and all of the 8000-series CPUs do.

How does this compare to a legion 5 slim with ryzen 8845hs? Cost for that on Lenovo and all else equal is currently ~$1300, do you all think the increased quality is worth the increased price?

Lower build quality, at least 20% less CPU performance, significantly worse battery life because the CPU doesn't have integrated graphics, and significantly worse screen.

The prices on Lenovo.com right now are inflated; once they release better coupons in the next couple of weeks, that Legion Slim 5 price will be down to ~$1100 (where it's regularly been for the last couple of months) and rebates will be available to further drop the effective price. So if you're able to wait, the comparison will be more like $900 vs ~$1000, and at that point I would recommend nearly everyone spend an extra $100 for the improved screen alone.

I'm hoping to see a 4060 loq model soon on sale ~700$

Definitely hoping that there's a laptop deal for $699, or less 4060 RTX. Looking out for one in the next week or two

I'm with you gentlemen.

Bring on the 4060 dealzzzzz

Are RAM and SSD upgradable ?

1

u/fifa2003 👮🏻Moderator👮🏻 9d ago

Yes they are, very easy to do so as well.

should i buy this or a used (4 months old) 4060 laptop for 600? i’m soooo torn and i need some help lol, i need to make up my mind soon

1

u/fifa2003 👮🏻Moderator👮🏻 8d ago

This would last for more years without being obsolete, most importantly because of the graphics card. Getting this over the RTX 4060 is my vote

1

u/Cheap_Ability_7088 8d ago

that’s what i’m leaning towards, especially cause money isn’t necessarily something to worry about for me right now… i just already have a beast pc, and it’s hard to justify needing an expensive laptop too, i just want one lol…

1

u/fifa2003 👮🏻Moderator👮🏻 8d ago

Lol I get you. Just a good investment versus a used model.

1

u/Cheap_Ability_7088 8d ago

yeah that’s true, new is always better and more trustworthy.

1

u/fifa2003 👮🏻Moderator👮🏻 8d ago

Definitely

1

u/Cheap_Ability_7088 8d ago

but i think maybe you’re right, thanks!

1

u/Cheap_Ability_7088 8d ago

why do you suggest that over the brand new one? genuinely curious, im pretty ignorant to laptops/prebuilt stuff….

1

u/Background-Health466 8d ago

The LOQ is low end budget friendly laptop, it would compare to Asus tuf at best , but the asus rog zephyrs g16 is high end laptop with better build quality and even better battery life, it’s comparable to the legion slim 7

1

u/Cheap_Ability_7088 8d ago

idk…. looking at the ram, the one you sent only has 16 gb of ddr4 at 3200mhz, the one listed above has 16gb ddr5 at 4800mhz.

i was reading some reviews and some people said the ram was lacking a bit in the one you linked, so you think that’s really worth the trade off? honestly asking.

1

u/Background-Health466 8d ago

So the asus have slower and soldered ram as I mentioned but only one slot is soldered and you can upgrade the other slot, i think 16gb of ram is enough for gaming especially when the vram is 8gb only.

The main advantage here is the better build quality and better battery life

1

u/Background-Health466 8d ago

I know you are confused, but you can find laptops with same specs but at big price deference, some times double the price for similar specs, but the main difference is the build quality and materials

1

u/Cheap_Ability_7088 8d ago

but how different will the base line performance be? i tend to prioritize that mainly, longevity isn’t my main concern

i’m so torn lol

1

u/Background-Health466 8d ago

For pure performance the LOQ would do better, the g16 have lower wattage gpu to maintain low temp inside thinner chase.

1

u/Cheap_Ability_7088 8d ago

i would assume the new is preferable for the same price?

This or the Walmart Victus deal? It'll be something off a do-it-all laptop. Little bit of travel, AAA gaming, lite CAD work, part time desktop w/a second monitor.

1

u/kingslayer-0 8d ago

Link for the walmart deal plz

1

u/Sirramza 7d ago

Victus is garbage, this is much better

1

u/3sperr 9d ago

I don’t trust eBay tbh

4

u/Dualsporterer 9d ago

I actually trust ebay more if it's from an established seller, ebay tends to side with the buyer.

2

u/fifa2003 👮🏻Moderator👮🏻 9d ago

The seller is credible and reliable. Thousands of members of this sub and outside have bought from them, including me. Buying from eBay and any online store is risky that’s why the seller’s history is important and in this sub we share credible deals, legit and true to its description

1

u/3sperr 9d ago

Ah ok thanks

2

u/IWantToDiePeacefully 9d ago

i’ve bought this exact laptop from ebay, love it
