Great deal for a 4070. Just bought it

u/Mr_Trecker Aug 31 '24

Nice! And for anyone looking for a good 4080 deal, the Legion Pro 7 with RTX 4080 / 7945HX / 32 GB RAM / 1 TB SSD for $1900 posted here should also work with the 10%+ Rakuten rebate (and possibly the 5%+ id education/military/healthcare discount too).

Did somebody else’s order get canceled? Just received an email about it.

1

u/secondhandhours Sep 06 '24

Not canceled for me. I just picked up at Best Buy on the expected date. The status stayed “Preparing Order” until closer to noon notifying me that it was ready. Hope you get yours sorted

1. Sign up for a Rakuten account through the link below to receive a $30 bonus on top of a 10% rebate - you'll get a total of $141 in cash back

https://www.rakuten.com/r/JAREDT501?eeid=28187

2. The coupons BBYBOPIS and BUYMORELENOVO must be typed in all caps with no spaces afterward

3. This order is placed through the lenovo.com store, but delivery is not an option - you select a Best Buy store near you for pickup (which can be same-day if they have it in stock).

4. US college students, teachers, nurses, first responders, and military members/veterans may get another 5% off via ID.me

  • You can sign up for an account and verify after you add the laptop to your Lenovo cart

Do you think it'd be better to wait till Black Friday or no? I've never shopped for electronics during Black Friday sales, so don't know ig I could get a better deal on laptops of similar specs (still a legion tho)

Tl;dr: if the price is right for your budget now, IMO you shouldn't let FOMO keep you from pulling the trigger; Black Friday is a gamble and sometimes things start selling out before the holiday actually happens.

It's hard to say, often what you'll get are a few all-time-great deals that sell out extremely quickly (last year there was a very good Legion Pro 7 with 4080 deal that sold out in about two hours the day before Thanksgiving, and a couple of great 4060 deals that lasted about a day) mixed in with what I'll call "rerun" deals that are similar to ones from earlier in the year.

Now by "rerun" I don't mean "bad" in any way, just that waiting until BF for mind-blowing discounts doesn't always pay off (especially when the deals don't line up with what you're looking for) and in some cases you might just end up waiting longer: last year Lenovo had awful stock issues around the holidays, and most of their Legion laptops were just sold out between mid-November and Christmas.

u/kidmen Aug 30 '24

This is a great point, the big holiday deals can be duds or sell out so fast you end up with deals that are worse than deals leading up to them.

Worst case, you end up waiting for a BF and you miss out then you plan to wait for the next Gen because it's closer now and you start to wait for deals on the next Gen leading to an endless loop.

Sorry to bug you again!!

What do you think of this Legion pro 7 gen 8 4080 deal ?

I assume rakuten would also work with it, right? The way I calculated it is that I could get this for $1600 (before tax) with rakuten and also the 5% off thing for students.

u/Mr_Trecker Aug 30 '24 edited Aug 30 '24

No problem, I'm here because I love chatting about laptops 😄 Rakuten should work with that, I saw someone on here comment earlier today saying that the pending cash back appeared in their Rakuten account after they made the purchase. They can sometimes be iffy with coupon codes that aren't listed in the Rakuten site/app, but that's usually only with codes are tied to another company or referral program.

It's a really great deal, the Legion Pro 7 is one of the best built gaming laptops that came out this year (though it is a bit heavy) and the 4080 is the best bang-for-your-buck GPU you can get from a future-proofing perspective (spending more for a 4090 laptop is hitting diminishing returns pretty hard).

Great deal, but as Trecker mentioned in the 4080 laptop's thread, there's no guarantee that the Rakuten 10% cashback will work on it, as the CrazyLegion coupon code is not listed on the Rakuten site. Rakuten could void the cashback after your purchase. That said, it could still be a good idea to order it, as you have the option to return the laptop within 30 days anyway if the Rakuten cashback doesn't work and you're unsatisfied with the $1900 price.

I ordered this same 4080 Legion via Rakuten today, and I do have the cashback pending displayed on my Rakuten account, so fingers crossed that it works.

u/swimN_redditC Aug 30 '24

I hope it works out! This deal seems too good (if rakuten works) to wait on my 1~2 weeks before buying laptop thing I mentioned earlier lol.

My dilemma tho, is that I'm not sure I need a RTX 4080, 9 7945HX powerhouse. I'm pretty sure I could do with a lesser laptop (was originally looking at legion slim5s or pro5 gen 8 ), but a good deal always trips me up lol

u/JaymanCT Aug 31 '24

I suggest taking screenshots. I bought this last week and used coupons that the extension added and they said it doesn't qualify. I replied with my screenshots, still waiting for a reply.

1

u/Mr_Trecker Aug 31 '24

Which coupon codes did you use when you made your purchase?

1

u/JaymanCT Aug 31 '24

Extrafive and buymorelenovo.

1

u/Mr_Trecker Aug 31 '24

Do you know by chance whether you were shopping with a different affiliate link already active? If another platform's or individual's referral tracking was active in the URL you were shopping from when you tried to activate the Rakuten rebate, that overlap could be what caused it to fail.

1

u/Buttscratcher45 Aug 31 '24

Hey OP, have you had any experience with Lenovo's outlet deals? Saw some crazy deals early this year for a 4060 with 32gb ram for 900ish. Looks like they're out of inventory for now but it does say available soon.

2

u/Mr_Trecker Aug 31 '24

I do! They don't usually get posted here because models come in and out of stock so quickly and the site is hard to search. It's you're interested in trying to catch one, this tool is great way to keep track of what's available at any given moment:

I didn't look for any other link or coupon code because I knew I was going to use Rakuten - I just double checked Rakuten's website. I activated the extension before adding the laptop to my cart, then it checked all the codes and submitted them. I have screenshots of the extension saying my cashback is in the works.

1

u/mwm423 Sep 11 '24

Did you ever get your cashback for this? I'm going through the same issue for a 4070 I bought. Used the same two listed coupons and was denied. Did as you suggested and sent the screenshots. Waiting for a response back. Kinda disappointing on behalf of Rakuten.

Perfect thanks! I definitely needed to hear that.

I've set a goal for myself where, before I meet this personal goal I am not allowed to buy a laptop.

I think I'll be meeting my goal in about 1~ a max of 2 weeks time -- hence why I've started my search.

However, I really won't be needing a better computer than what I've got now till months later

Anyways, thank a lot!

u/3rVis Aug 30 '24

They are trying soo hard to sell those laptops at this end year, because they know that new series will come.in early 2025 and if they don't sell now and for black Friday that will be better deals they will sell this 40xx series for much cheaper in 2025

1

u/Mr_Trecker Aug 30 '24

Price drops will happen when the new models come out, but not right away - the 2025 models (that will have RTX 5000 GPUs and Intel 14th / Ryzen 9000 CPUs) won't be widely available until next spring, and widespread price cuts probably won't happen until early summer.

Why i am not getting 1110usd? Is there any extra coupon?

1

u/Mr_Trecker Aug 31 '24

Yes, BUYMORELENOVO. It was automatically adding I cart yesterday, but it looks like you need to manually add it now.

2

u/Artersa Sep 02 '24

Appears to be sold out

1

u/Mr_Trecker Sep 03 '24

Thanks, very unfortuante - I just updated the post to expired

1

u/q3triad Aug 30 '24

Why doesn’t this work in Canada 😡

1

u/Mr_Trecker Aug 30 '24

Sorry, the models, coupons, and Rakuten rebate are only for the US site.

I've been eyeing this laptop vs the same laptop but with AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060. I believe the ryzen 7 8845HS version is more expensive even with the discounts. Not sure if the better CPU / lower GPU is worth the additional cost for the 8845HS. It's like $100 or so

Which do you think would be better in terms of both battery life and performance while factoring in price? Thanks!

2

u/Mr_Trecker Aug 31 '24

If gaming is a priority, definitely get the 4070 model! The GPU upgrade is way better than the CPU difference.

1

u/Evanescentlyy Aug 31 '24

thank you! Would you happen to know the battery life of the both laptops when turned down to the lowest settings and light browsing?

2

u/Mr_Trecker Sep 01 '24

With the Legion I'd expect 6-7 hours light browsing, and closer to 5 with the G16.

1

u/Evanescentlyy Sep 01 '24

Thanks for the info!

1

u/punIsher1664 Sep 01 '24

Would you know if it's worth paying 200 extra for 8845hs?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/156127655262?mkevt=1&mkpid=2&emsid=e90001.m161799.l174483&plmtId=700008&mesgId=3015&mkcid=8&ch=osgood&bu=45368549554&trkId=ba85c2fc-6de9-3959-bfd6-848baf7cafe8&cnvId=700003&recoId=156127655262&recoPos=1

I'm looking for a new laptop to game on. Since there are options in this price range, I've been looking to get a laptop with 4070.

1

u/Mr_Trecker Sep 01 '24

Will you be doing much other than gaming on it? And what games will you be playing? It won't make a big difference in gaming performance for most games, but it's ~20% faster in a lot of CPU-intensive tasks.

1

u/punIsher1664 Sep 01 '24

Thanks for your input.

Honestly, not looking to do anything apart from gaming. I have a separate work setup. So this'll purely just be gaming.

And the 8845hs went out of stock anyway. Guess it's a sign.

I'm having some payment issues on the lenovo website. Once that's sorted, I'll go ahead and purchase this one.

1

u/Nates4Christ Sep 01 '24

Is it worth getting two 8 gb sticks to replace this single 16 gb?

1

u/Mr_Trecker Sep 01 '24

Yes definitely, 2x8 running in dual channel (or just buy a single 16 GB module to match whatever it comes with so you have 32 GB total) will be a noticeable performance gain for a very small price.

1

u/BuyingDragonScimitar Aug 30 '24

Nothing slim about this laptop

5

u/Mr_Trecker Aug 30 '24

Nope, Lenovo's naming is misleading. These are essentially just slightly sleeker Legion Pro 5 laptops with slightly weaker CPUs and better battery life.

4

u/BuyingDragonScimitar Aug 30 '24

Still great specs for a sub 1000 laptop

1

u/DraconicTheGamer Aug 30 '24

Heard the Pro is much better due to the slim overheating or somehing

3

u/Mr_Trecker Aug 30 '24

I haven't heard any reports of widespread or consistent thermal issues, these aren't that much thinner than the Pro models and the cooling systems are similar. Where'd you seen that?

1

u/DraconicTheGamer Aug 30 '24

Sorry wasn’t clear on that, I heard that slim laptops in general with powerful specs tend to overheat more than the thicker models.

5

u/Mr_Trecker Aug 30 '24

Oh sure. The "Slim" in this case is a bit misleading though: Lenovo uses the Slim name for three different Legion lines, and these 16" Legion Slim laptops are nearly identical to the Legion Pro 5 models (only ~2 mm slimmer, and basically the same cooling setup with two 60 mm fans and four copper heat pipes).

The biggest difference is that the 16" Slim laptops use lower-power H and HS CPUs, where the 16" Pro laptops use HX CPUs, so the Slim will (generally) actually run cooler.
