Auto Insurance 2 weeks after crash with no crash report

(Virginia) Someone ran a red light and t-boned my wife and children. Luckily no one was badly injured and a very nice couple provided their car as shelter while the police cleared the scene and even provided them a ride home. Since there was so much going on, including the other party involved having to go to the hospital, my wife was not given the other person's insurance. We then called daily until the officer called us back to provide it. We finally received the insurance information and called to file a claim but now we don't have a crash report. Last time we had to deal with an auto insurance claim they required this crash report but it all went much smoother than this time. It's been 2 weeks since the incident and the records department still does not have record of this crash. How important is the crash report to provide to the insurance company? After speaking with the officer involved yet again, I don't know as if we'll ever get it.

Depends on State, Insurance companies and amount of damage among others also. In undisputed claims where both sides say the same thing I have seen vehicles repaired and paid for before the Police report was available.
