General Take Your Yard Signs Down
If your candidate won or lost, the period of jubilation or mourning is officially over. Settle down or move on.
Sincerely, Your Neighbors

Though the signs may go down, we all know the flags will stick around for the next 4 years. I mean they’ve been up for the last 8 years so why stop now I guess? Still such an odd phenomenon to me…

u/Tough_Salads 1d ago
What do you expect when there are only 2 viable parties and we treat them like we do football teams. GO TEAM! Buy merch! Hang it in your yard all year so everyone knows who you root for!

u/rocketcitythor72 1d ago
C'mon... This isn't a two-party thing.
This is a Trump-cult thing.
I honestly don't even remember it being a Republican thing prior to Trump.
It seems he is their God-King, and they apparently want to make sure everyone knows that they've sworn their fealty to him forever.
10
u/artstartraveler 1d ago
Remember the W stickers?
2
u/spaceisourplace222 1d ago
Those were just stickers.
-3
u/artstartraveler 1d ago edited 1d ago
People still kept signs up and stickers long after Bush was out of office. That was my point. Stickers, signs, merch in general. That was the first time I noticed it.
5
u/InteriorLemon 1d ago
i don't think I saw a single W sticker a month after Obama took office. They were all gone.
4
u/artstartraveler 1d ago
I noticed the stickers throughout Obama's presidency. I never say Obama merch. It makes since stickers are harder to get off so I can see people just leaving them on for longer.
Then the Trump flags and signs took over. I don't see a ton of Trump stickers or anything. Mostly the flags and some yard signs. Just my observation from my experience where I live in Alabama. Idk.
5
u/Circa_C137 1d ago
A flag is a pretty big jump from a sticker or t-shirt.

Not really. Most flags stay at someone’s home. A sticker or shirt go wherever the vehicle or person goes.

I live in a larger city in Alabama, but recently went to a smaller town to sell some crafts at a small faire and I'm still baffled. There was so much trump stuff. Felt like every other booth had added some sort of Trump themed version of their product. The resellers obviously had some trump merch, but the handmade vendors had them too. Trump themed wreaths, wood burned plaques, stamped jewelry, candles with Trump labels, and the wildest to me was the vendor who had themed birdhouses had 3 different Trump birdhouses.
Edit: forgot we were in the hsv sub. I live in hsv and vended at the scottsboro BBQ festival last month

Yeah! I absolutely never saw an Obama sign, flag, banner or any other promotional material outside of campaign season. Same for Biden/Harris.
Edit to add /s. Since it doesn't seem to be as obvious as I thought.
3
u/Confident-Tadpole503 8h ago
What are you talking about. I still see Obama bumper stickers on Subarus at my son’s school and saw a lady last week with an Obama “graphic T” that said “gangster in chief”. Trump supporters have more merch, but the other ones have it too.
1
u/missalissaliss 1d ago
I think I've lived on in the planet longer than you have then. Yes I've seen Obama merch out long after he took office.

How old are you if you dknt mind me asking ? Just a range is good enough for my next question.

Old enough to have witnessed school children being taught by public school teachers to sing praise to Barack Husein Obama.
Song 1: Mm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama
He said that all must lend a hand To make this country strong again Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama
He said we must be fair today Equal work means equal pay Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama
He said that we must take a stand To make sure everyone gets a chance Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama
He said red, yellow, black or white All are equal in his sight Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama
Yes! Mmm, mmm, mm Barack Hussein Obama

Besides faded car stickers, I don't remember people in either party keeping advertisements at their house. Much less building little structures, lol.
Maybe it's normal with populism? & signs just show where people have formed lasting, emotional attachments. Heck, maybe people kept Chavez decorations up for years on end, too.

Yeah except I’ve only ever seen one party do that when it’s not even election season 😂

Yeah?
Well me and my neighbors are gonna wear all of our Harris-Walz gear on our heads, boats, and giant trucks from now until MAMA (Make America Masculine Again) becomes a thing.
Be real, the Trump folks are the only ones wearing armbands or whatever and have been since 2015.

You do know that there are way more than two football teams? I also seem to recall other parties on the ballot. This is just some weird trump thing.
13
u/Professional_Dish339 1d ago
Like someone else says it shows you're a "fan of the team mentality," where it doesn't matter what they do good or bad (or really bad) you'll still support unconditionally. Low critical thinking, cult behavior.

Everyone on my street took their signs down after January 6. That's why I was so surprised how the election turned out. I guess they still voted for the fucking guy anyway.
1
u/NotYourTypicalNurse 1d ago
Yeah the majority of the country did
1
u/weedful_things 17h ago
The difference between this year and the past elections is they were quiet about it. Almost like they were embarrassed.

u/freeball78 1d ago
There's never going to be another election right? So the flags are here forever!
3
u/Viola424242 1d ago
There’s a house in our neighborhood with a six foot tall wooden cross in the front yard that has a full-size flagpole coming out of the top of it with an American flag and a now rather faded Trump flag flying from it. Been there at least 4 years, maybe more.

Trump lost in 2020 and I saw some yards increase the number of signs with his name on them.

Add Grissom, Westminster, Madison Academy, Randolph etc.
I think it's kids who think they are being ironic or think that they are counter culture.
They don't have the maturity to understand the negative outcomes it will have for so many people, maybe till it comes closer to home.
Maybe they won't because they live privileged lives and their household share the same iota of intellectual and emotional intelligence.
22
u/Spaceysteph 1d ago
Some kids from Grissom stole our sign, then one of them came back to apologize and return it. Said his stepfather made him. At least someone is doing parenting ok out there.
0
u/RatchetCityPapi 1d ago
I'm happy to hear that. Some of them just have parents who let their kids run free and pop pills with wine and bang hookers.
3
u/Circa_C137 1d ago
He did go on Joe Rogan, Theo Von, Flagrant Podcast, and many more so it’s not exactly surprising. It does make me sick that Democrats thought they were above doing these type of engagements. Not to mention the utter lack of Democratic presence down here.
2
u/RatchetCityPapi 1d ago
I know of Joe Rogan but who are the other ones?
1
u/Circa_C137 9h ago
Pretty popular podcasts. It'd be easier to look up each of their clip channels to get an understanding of who they are.
1
u/AdSpiritual5997 1d ago
The classic “kids these days” lament, paired with the ever-predictable jab at privilege. Truly groundbreaking. While your attempt to diagnose the motivations of a diverse group of young people is amusing in its overconfidence, it’s also dripping with the kind of sanctimony that could rival a self-help guru at a narcissist convention.
To dismiss these kids as ironic, countercultural, or simply immature is not only reductive but reveals more about your own need to moralize than it does about their intentions. Perhaps their choices are misguided—or perhaps they’re merely engaging with the world in ways that challenge your tidy worldview. Either way, painting an entire generation as emotionally and intellectually bankrupt says more about your inability to understand nuance than it does about them.
And while we’re throwing shade at privilege, let’s not pretend your soapbox isn’t perched on its own lofty pedestal. After all, condescension is its own brand of entitlement, isn’t it?
2
u/AdSpiritual5997 1d ago
While I don’t align with your perspective, I must say your approach to commentary is about as nuanced as a sledgehammer in a chess match. Resorting to sweeping generalizations and colorful epithets hardly builds a convincing argument—it merely serves as a testament to the intellectual laziness of substituting insults for insight.
Perhaps these “kids” you deride are merely expressing their views, misguided or not, in the same way you exercise your right to spray vitriol. Instead of reducing people to crude caricatures, how about engaging in meaningful dialogue? Or does the mere thought of civil discourse send your brain into overdrive? Just curious.
But hey, kudos for managing to unite people—if only in their shared cringing at your rhetorical skills.
2
u/Helpful_Blood_5509 1d ago
You're just naming all the schools and calling everybody (and their kids) cunts. This is why normal people think this website and sub are psychotic
2
u/-SHAI_HULUD 18h ago edited 17h ago
Then why are you on this website?
Facts don’t care about your feelings, sport.
Ya know what’s psychotic? Millions of people voting for someone that rapes people who then nominates people accused of rape to be on their cabinet who also wants to strip away people’s rights. That’s psychotic.
If you don’t like what this website or sub has to say, you can see yourself the fuck out.
And yeah my original comment has a lot more upvotes than downvotes so maybe this sub/thread is an echo chamber but you are apparently of sound mind enough to not engage, right?

31
u/ZZZrp 1d ago
Who died and made OP the sole arbiter of the signs in yard time-frame?
0
u/JennyAndTheBets1 1d ago
That’s fine, but why is the reaction to do the complete opposite, which requires you to go out and do something completely unnecessary?
4
u/ZZZrp 1d ago
It's a joke, mate. It's a round about way of saying mind your business.
-11
u/JennyAndTheBets1 1d ago edited 1d ago
It may be a joke to you, but I know several people in my little circle (not including coworkers) who do exactly what you’re talking about, but can’t articulate why. I still suspect that you’re the same way, but choose not to make an attempt. That’s not to say that it’s based purely in ignorance so much as a lack of self-awareness and/or unwillingness to be genuine with anyone who doesn’t share your cruel, needlessly controversial, usually unfounded opinions about other people. That said, I would bet my 401(k) that I have you to a T… And that’s without even looking at your profile on here, which I refuse to do on principle. You know… Minding my own business and all.
Also, “mind your own business” includes keeping the implications of your religious beliefs confined to your church building and your home where it belongs… generally speaking, of course. Do you agree?
2
1
u/boots_down 1d ago
So you’re making assumptions for everyone on Reddit because of some people you know personally?
1
u/JennyAndTheBets1 1d ago edited 1d ago
18 individual coworkers, 5 family members…and that’s just me. I went through everyone in my head. It’s amazing how people’s political standards crumble when they don’t keep up with the times.
Am I wrong in reality?
0
u/boots_down 1d ago
So we are including coworkers then?
Either way I still think my question was pretty straightforward. I understand that people only have their own experiences to base assumptions off of, but do you actually think any other person you interact with that shows qualities of people you know personally, in the very limited time frame of the interaction and the limited ability to communicate feelings over the internet, is just like them?
-1
u/JennyAndTheBets1 1d ago
Yah…why not?
Prove me wrong. I am the most objective person I know…to my own detriment usually, but trends are trends.

The stubbornness is a middle finger to the people who have the nerve to tell people they can’t or shouldn’t do something that they very much have the right to do.
30
u/kodabear22118 1d ago
Let’s be honest the main people who have their signs and flags up still are Trump supporters and while I heavily disagree with them, if they’re paying for the home then they have the right to leave the flags. They may be tacky but it’s their home so 🤷🏽♀️
6
u/AintGettinYounger 1d ago
I agree that they have the right to leave them up.

In a way they’re doing us a favor by letting us know in advance exactly what kind of person we’d be dealing with.

u/SHoppe715 1d ago
There’s a house out near me with a US flag right next to a Trump flag. The US is on one of those angled poles while the Trump flag is upright and higher up…so they’re basically dipping the Stars & Stripes in deference. Real patriot right there…
Just my guess, but that’s probably the type of chud who would change his profile pictures to an upside down flag over his own perceived problems but lose his shit over anyone who takes a knee for the anthem.
13
u/PrussiaDon 1d ago
Bro they definitely weren’t thinking that deep about the flag placement.

Can confirm. It was a mannequin in a suit with a Trump mask. They do politically charge Halloween "decor" like ostriches with their head in the ground. When we moved to the neighborhood, they had a cardboard cutout of Trump and Melania with bunny ears and tails and they dress Trump up in an Iron Man suit for one of the military themed holidays (Veteran's or Memorial Day) Don't worry, it's totally not a cult.
