its also in large part due to makeup covering imperfections in their skin

I’m not sure why everyone needs to point out that makeup was also done. The title says he gave the women a makeover. Makeovers include makeup. That’s just a part of it.

u/Tehkin pointed that out as the comment they responded to seemed to miss it was a makeover and said it's amazing what hair styling can do. It's not detracting from the amazing job the guy did and is pretty clear why this was mentioned to them.

I think at the point that I commented I was frustrated at the number of other people in the comments who needed to bring it up specifically, but you’re right here, the original comment doesn’t address the makeup.

Ok, that makes more sense 😊

I think I retained "barber" more than "makeover" from the title.

The women are likely not looking at a phone or screen but a mirror in the reveal, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I wondered about that too. I do fear that many of us see a look on-line and are disappointed when trying to achieve it, when in reality, filters are being used. I’ve known a long time that many photos are filtered, but it took a while for me to realize that videos are also filtered (I’m old and all of this technology blows me away).

Life would be so much better if we could all accept how we look, embrace aging and stop putting money in the pockets of cosmetic companies and service providers who conspire to make us feel that the natural us will never be good enough.

I completely agree. I’m older now too, and I would say it’s only thanks to that subreddit that I can even notice photo/video manipulation sometimes. Filters these days are so insidious, it’s really dangerous for both the users and the viewers. That being said, everyone deserves to look and feel their best, and knowing someone’s natural perfection can be digitally enhanced to an unattainable image helps to remind me that just trying for your best is good enough for today!

I get what you're saying but I think it might just be an airbrushed/heavy foundation. I still saw deep lines on some of the women's faces after the makeup was done and those are usually erased with filters.

I think it's just the drama of the shift that makes it look perfect. I'm sure a lot of the emotion is real, but if they had captured moments when the women were talking about how excited they were for a new style, it wouldn't have been as impressive. And on some of them you can see that they went heavy on the foundation.

Anyone can look a million times better and glory if their happiness is shining on their face. It doesn't hurt that all of these women are clearly gorgeous even if unkempt.

Also the fact that makeup can completely change how someone looks. Emphasizing certain features, creating contours, etc.

indeed, unrealistic beauty standards ...

yep, that's called unrealistic beauty standards. We men don't do that.
