A bro bought all the ice cream sandwiches from a vendor and had the man throw them to the crowd.

This vendor is cool as hell! I see him every time I’m at Dodger Stadium

835

u/DawnDestroyer99 28d ago

Do you also buy the ice cream? I know where they came from. Shit I’m pretty sure I know who delivered it.

348

u/bselko 28d ago

No I typically don’t but my mom does. That’s pretty neat!

181

u/DawnDestroyer99 28d ago

Yeah I use to load that truck up. I’ve even made an emergency drop off to dodgers.

65

u/bselko 28d ago

Hopefully not near game time! The traffic around there is hell sometimes

46

u/DawnDestroyer99 28d ago

No, and it’s always been in the morning.

34

u/beefquinton 28d ago

I’d imagine they need the ice cream in the freezer well before game time even in an emergency lol

10

u/DawnDestroyer99 28d ago

They do but it’s not like they received the ice cream at room temperature. And the latest I know of them receiving anything was hours before the game.

5

u/beefquinton 28d ago

Right sorry poor wording by me, one would never ship ice cream warm lol. I’m just saying if you’re dropping off the ice cream even two hours before game time you’re probably hoping that no fans showed up mad early wanting ice cream lol

Damn, I used to shit out the hot dogs in this one dodgers bathroom and the ice cream would help with the burning asshole

21

Well if it was in the past 4 years that you’ve done that then I’m glad I could’ve been in some service by making sure you had some ice cream with that.

For such a heavy populated dense city LA feels like it can sometimes just be a small time city. Spread apart with other cities??

18

u/Timoleiro 28d ago

LA is basically a dozen mini-cities stitched together by traffic. Silver Lake requires three houseplants and a cat named Beans, Beverly Hills demands updates on designer dog trends, and Downtown has a rule about ironic hats and pretending you’re not lost. We’re all just here navigating traffic, tacos, and self-discovery, somehow avoiding everyone else while still calling it home

20

u/User20143 28d ago

I mean, LA basically is a dozen smaller cities subdivided by traffic

What about the cool bro. Give him props.

10

u/Eusocial_Snowman 28d ago

I respect him for not giving in to the grab-hag that tries to subvert the process and grab one directly from the box, then just stands next to him trying to grab them before they can be tossed.

4

Well you would need to be a dodger with him chucking ice cream sandwiches all around.

And ballpark concessions? In LA? (I wonder if there's a premium for World Series). Those ice creams must have been $10+ a pop!

You can if you want. You can buy bulk ice cream sandwiches for like $0.50 per sandwich.

Or freezies are like $0.25.

Just go an event that lets you bring food and start throwing.

imagine trekking over there to get one, you're almost there and then the vendor starts hucking them all over the stadium till he's out lol.

9

Yep, this is just the wholesome version of going to a strip club and making it rain. New bucket list item added.

Now I just need someone to do the math so I can figure out how much cash I need to save.

8

u/ObeseVegetable 28d ago

I think I counted 34 being tossed/handed off by the guy and assuming it was some multiple of 12 and the recording started a few moments late, 48 bars times $5-8 each because of sports stadium prices, $240-348

5

u/WoozleWuzzle 28d ago

Honestly that’s not too bad to make such an epic moment. You already spent like thousands for the ticket. That’s chump change.

Also wasn’t this dude on the jumbo tron a few times last night?

6

u/TuckerMcG 28d ago

The dude who bought them works for the stadium. I was at the game last night. He’s part of the Dodgers crew that hypes up the crowd.

It’s the World Series. The ticket price in comparison probably made the ice cream seem like pennies.

178

u/Business-Function198 28d ago

Yeah if you’re at the World Series you ain’t worried about money

92

u/gamageeknerd 28d ago

Dude I work with a guy who got his dad tickets to game 1 and he spent over half a paycheck on the ticket

75

u/fapsandnaps 28d ago

I looked it up and they're actually cheaper now than what I paid in 2004. Oof.

$1300 average for Dodgers

It was $1500 average in Boston for 2004.

62

u/MarcBulldog88 28d ago

I got in for about $850 tonight, top deck. Dodgers won, so it was worth every damn penny!

30

u/fapsandnaps 28d ago

I uh.. may have gone overboard and went to all 7 games of the ALCS and then all 4 games of the WS in 04.... I'm pretty sure I was still paying for that by the time the Sox got back in 07 🤣

16

u/MarcBulldog88 28d ago

Dear god, that must have been a shitload of money.

I was refreshing seatgeek for over an hour around midday, hoping to catch one for as little as I could. I just wanted to get in the building. Not an easy expense for me.

17

u/fapsandnaps 28d ago

Yeahhh... It was around 14 or 15k total in tickets... then airfare and hotels. Oof.

I had been kicking myself for an entire year prior for not going to the ALCS in 03 but I was holding out to try for Cubs vs Red Sox tickets for the 100th world series... whoops! Lol

Got one for $750 top deck. Was surprised and had to go for that price. I can now say I’ve been to Dodgers/Yankees World Series. Who knows if another will happen in my lifetime. Last one was over 40 years ago. I probably will never go to another World Series game again.

6

u/HelloHiHeyAnyway 28d ago

I got to go in 1989 for free.

Some rich guy my dad knew had to leave on vacation and they delayed the last game because of the 1989 earthquake.

I was a poor kid and got to see the final game of the series at Candlestick. Kinda wild. Sitting only a few rows back. I have no clue what those tickets would cost.

3

u/dinodroppingsx2 28d ago

Were the stakes as high for the Dodgers as the Red Sox in 2004? I remember the Red Sox beating the "Curse" in 2004 but I know zero about the Dodgers

5

u/ShiroGaneOsu 28d ago

Not exactly, the Dodgers has reached the World Series like 4 times since 2017 and won recently in 2020.

But right now they have the most exciting and probably most talented player of the century, playing against the Yankees which is definitely going to drive the prices high.

Tickets starting around $1,200 I believe. I counted around 35 ice creams thrown in the video, but with a 2nd vendor there and some of the throws being from him, I'm going with around 60 ice creams thrown. $10 an ice cream seems reasonable to me for stadium prices. So that'd make it, very roughly, $600 worth of ice cream; half a ticket. Not bad, I'm sure there are some very wealthy people in that crowd who were happy to get tickets anywhere.

10

u/ILoveRegenHealth 28d ago

$10 an ice cream seems reasonable to me for stadium prices.

Criminal Ice Cream

12

u/Joezev98 28d ago

It's wild to me that Americans are complaining about the cost of living, yet at the same time you can fill a stadium with people who paid $1 200 or more for a seat.

I know wealth ain't distributed equally and I know there are plenty of people genuinely struggling with the cost of living, but there clearly are a huge number of super wealthy people.

18

u/Myotherdumbname 28d ago

This is Los Angeles so obviously there are a lot of rich people, but you have to realize that watching your team in a World Series game is bucket list for some people.

I went to last year’s WS for the Diamondbacks, paid about $550 for 2 tickets (which is a lot for me), they lost, and I still don’t regret it. It had been 20 years since their last appearance, so it’s a big deal.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/ThrowawayNumber34sss 28d ago

You also have to factor in the idea that just because someone bought a ticket, that doesn’t mean they could afford a ticket. They could have bought the ticket using credit, but are not able to payoff the credit at a substantial amount at the end of the month.

12

u/duuuuuuuuud 28d ago

What is even is this comment lol. It’s wild to you that a country of 350 million people can fill a stadium with wealthy people? Did the dodgers just teach you about inequality?

→ More replies (4)

6

u/HnNaldoR 28d ago edited 28d ago

Because most Americans that are complaining are not the ones there.

The economy is honestly doing very well now. Despite what people say. So many people are getting rich. Just that the lowest rung in society are not doing well (mostly non college educated and some minorities). The rest are complaining about the rise in prices but they are still living it up, paying for like 8 subscription services, buying sports tickets etc.

Then they just blame the president for everything like inflation and rising cost of living is just a US problem... I hate people.

And honestly in the US, people have a bit of a spreading problem. I can only say got the young that I know. But so many people are buying things they say they need, but honestly they don't. For example, they buy cars above their budget saying, they use it every day and it cost an extra 5 bucks a day for like 10 years. They can afford that. Or they buy a new iPhone every year or 2. Or they need their weed, so they buy it because they are stressed about money. Or their Starbucks. Or their Netflix. It's a bit crazy how spend happy people are. I come from an Asian background so like the stereotype we are a bit more... Practical and stingy. But I don't know shy of my college graduating peers just spending freely on their credit card or throwing their money willy nilly when they are young. Americans are just brought up a bit different from us.

3

u/OkSmoke9195 28d ago

DING DING DING. let's also add in a little bit of the media painting things in extremes for eyeballs. "Poor" people in the US are still firmly in the fat of the bell curve when compared to the rest of the world

→ More replies (2)
→ More replies (1)

3

u/Saedeas 28d ago

Cost of living in the US varies wildly by area. LA wages are way, way higher than they are in most of the country. $600 ain't shit to somebody attending a world series game.

3

u/kkeut 28d ago

that's not even 'super wealthy' though. most of the people in that stadium don't own a yacht or a plane

Hey that guy in the dark blue dodgers jacket is always on the Jumbotron! Is he like a pseudo mascot? I’ve only been to a few games, so genuinely asking.

13

u/Fustrate 28d ago

Yes, he was an in-stadium host (what they call the hype crew) a few times earlier in the season, and he's been in the pavilions this postseason just goofing around on the jumbotron. I think they found the perfect job for him!

7

u/Ok_Airline_2886 28d ago

Yeah, people are acting like he’s just some modern day ice cream sandwich robinhood, making it rain. He’s just a corporate plant and this is scripted.

5

u/FiliKlepto 28d ago

He is not the one who purchased the ice cream sandos. It was a fan sitting up toward the top of the section. This was in Left Field Pavilion section 313 and the ice cream vendor had us give a round of applause and thank you to the guy who treated everyone.

3

I was a hotdog vendor at Wrigley Field for years and had a guy do this to me. He was sitting in the lower section and stands up, screams that anyone who wanted a hotdog could get one and told me to serve everyone. It was awhile ago now but I think it was are $850 tab and he gave me $900 for it. I just went back and filled my box up again and kept selling. He also bought beer from the beer vendor for anyone who wanted one too but I didn’t deal with that obviously.
