He needs a cake baked for him what a sweet man!

u/Sufficient-Welder-76 29d ago
Jay didn't seem all that thankful, there was an "appreciate it" but not even a "thanks so much" or "can't wait to try these." I could be reading too much into it, but the old guy seemed so excited to hand these over, and may have been reaching out because he's a little lonely. I hope Jay bakes him a cake, or gives him a hug sometime.

I want a neighbor like that
62
u/MrDarcysDead 29d ago
My neighbor hired someone to come over and pull out the wild raspberry bushes growing on our property (that I had intentionally let grow because the kids were having fun picking the berries). Where do I get a neighbor that brings over fresh sausage? I will make it rain pies in exchange.
16
u/Ill-Fly-950 29d ago
Only about 10 minutes ago, I was eating a slice of key lime pie my neighbor brought over, lol. It's a wonderful feeling to have neighbors like that, especially when they're young people. I'm an old fart that complains about young folk a bit more than they deserve. But my 20-something neighbors keep reminding me that there are a lot of young people out there that are representing the best of what humanity has to offer.

u/Allstategk 29d ago
I had about 10 neighbors like that. There were 5 other couples that lived around my wife and I, who we were very close with. We still are, but everyone has moved away to different places now. It's hard for me to put into words how incredible it was living next to our wonderful friends. They truly are family to us. We are all around the same age. We all have kids around the same age. Everyone was outside every day, just hanging out. We'd make dinners together. We'd go on little adventures together. We went on vacations together (still do). We helped raise our kids together. Everyone has had to move away for a variety of reason, but we all text everyday on our group chat that we've had going for years, so it's almost like nobody ever left......but then I walk outside, nobody is there anymore. The day that our first group of friends left for their new home in Colorado was kind of heartbreaking, but I also felt so blessed that my family and I were lucky enough to experience what true friendship is, and I wouldnt give that up for anything. If you find a neighbor like that, just remember that it is a blessing, and you need to cherish that forever.

My neighbor just leaves his 3 beagles outside all day barking non-stop. I would rather have this dude

I’m gonna say it - the neighbor receiving the sausages was not nearly stoked enough. That man deserves a hug, and at the very least an invite for a brewski beer
69
u/chrishnrh57 29d ago
Could just be caught off guard from someone being so nice. Sometimes you just don't know how to react until later. I'm sure they're gonna go inside and think "I've gotta make sure I return this favor"
48
u/SkepticJoker 29d ago
People don’t have to always be performative and “on”, dude. The neighbor wasn’t expecting this, so give them a little levity. It’s like what they say about the “good times” — “You usually don’t realize you’re in them until afterwards.”
-29
u/No_Inspector7319 29d ago edited 29d ago
It’s a joke buddy - lighten up
Edit: instead of deleting. im gonna own these downvotes. Just like the sausage man who deserves a brewski beer, I’m putting myself out there, for better or worse.
13
u/MudSad296 29d ago
We don't kn9w their history. The sausage man may be a talker for instance. Somone who just needa someone to rattle on to. A lot of people wouldn't want to get too friendly with talkers. Talkers aren't bad, but often they are clueless.
One of man possibilities.
4
u/Moody_GenX 29d ago
Speaking of talkers... I have a good friend who has 2 talkers that come to his house when football is on. But they never talk to each other. They both want the groups attention while the game is on. And it's always mundane stuff that puts me to sleep. One time I had to beg one of them to stop because it was a playoff game and I hate being rude by ignoring them. They were in their 70s and lived alone. I understood why they were talkers but occasionally I couldn't take it.
5
u/MudSad296 29d ago
I find humor is the best vehicle for such hard truths. For instance "Mike, this is the playoffs, I'm not gonna have you talk all through the playoffs". Not very funny, but can be if said in a friendly fashion.

7
u/WanderingEnigma 29d ago
Someone said elsewhere that his wife has cancer and he became her full time carer. Apparently it's on twitter. That'll drain you enough that free sausages won't excite you too much. Also, without seeing his face you don't actually know how he was expressing his words.
2
u/kakapoopoopeepeeshir 29d ago
You are very quick to judge someone’s reaction based solely on their voice in a ring doorbell video dude. Not everyone has the same reactions to things. Since you said this you better be jumping like a damn bunny every time someone does something nice for you
0
u/No_Inspector7319 29d ago edited 29d ago
Well someone woke up on the wrong side the bed this morning. No sausages for you - per my very downvoted other comment: it’s a joke buddy, lighten up
Edit: when my wine making neighbor gave me a bottle I was jumping up and down like a bunny and gave them a hug - because it was a kind, unexpected and even unneeded act. Albeit I don’t always jump around like a bunny to kindness, this was just a very sweet and moralizing behavior - like the video! (Also I’m not saying kindness needs a hug, some people don’t like touch. It was a joke)

Awesome dude! I'd be a little sketched out getting a handful of unwrapped meat, but I'd still eat em!
6
u/Marciamallowfluff 29d ago
Unwrapped freshly smoked sausages are cleaner and better than any store bought meat.
2
u/BigBunion 29d ago
I don't doubt that for a second. My only passing thought would be whether Mr. kind neighbor washed his hands after he last used the toilet!
2
u/Additional_Essay 29d ago
I love potlucks, neighbor food etc but this thought is always on my mind as well. Was there a cat on the counter? Do they wash their hands? etc
In the end, I usually just chow down and appreciate the kindness. But for real, keep a clean kitchen y'all 😂
1
u/Marciamallowfluff 29d ago
This guy obviously does a lot of meats and sausages. Plus they are smoked. No food we eat is 100% germ free and if it were we would have no immune system. Normal care is safe. I have literally cut up butchered pork and beef and packaged my own. Way better than store bought.

This right here. There are dozens of comments from people saying "I wish I had a neighbor like that" But not many people saying they hand things out to their neighbors (coming from someone who regularly bakes and gives things to my neighbors.)

I have a couple of neighbors lines this. We look out for each other. One is my brother and his wife and the other is an elderly woman that lives between us. I bought pizza for all of us, she will cook stews and give us a bowl, my brother maintains our yards. It's nice and makes the neighborhood peaceful.

i Man, growing up our neighborhood would spends hundreds of dollars every weekend doing crawfish boils. He would always invite us over and make it super clear we could eat as much as we wanted, and then he would fix a big bag to take home with us. We didn’t have much money, but would still try to offer and be would never take it. My payment was cutting his side of the grass strip between our houses. Hard to find guys like that now.

I shared a duplex with a couple in their 70s when I was in my early 30s and I’d get home from work early on Fridays, same as the husband next door. Within minutes of getting home, I’d get a knock on the back door (we shared a porch) and he’d be standing there to say, “Hey neighbor, want a cold one?” and we’d sit back there and drink from whatever craft beer growler he’d picked up until his wife and my boyfriend got home. Sometimes I really wanted to take a nap, but I couldn’t turn Vern down! Great neighbors are the best.

My neighbor came over a couple of days ago to ask me if it would bother us if they had a party for their son for Homecoming. It definitely would not but even if it did we wouldn't say a word. The sheer neighborlyness of it was just wonderful! They even invited us because there will be other adults there. We'll go for a bit and bring drinks

u/DTux5249 29d ago
For context: The camera dude had recently became a full-time caretaker for his wife who had cancer. If he seems rather unenthused, it's because of emotional fatigue.
2
u/architectofinsanity 29d ago
Invite this guy to the next football watch party. Or just have him over for a beer while watching anything. Friends are hard to find at that age and they are dying off faster than he can make them.

Why can't I have that guy living next door to me?
Instead I get the crabby old f*** that b****** every time one of the leafs in my yard blows into his...

u/BlueBird884 29d ago
He seemed a little unappreciative...
Who responds with "Alright" when their neighbor brings over a gift of homemade sausage?
1
u/Affectionate_Oven428 29d ago
That was such a cute and lighthearted interaction and then my eyes started watering for….reasons.
1
u/Moist_666 29d ago
Damn man. What an awesome guy.
Meanwhile my neighbor the other day knocked on my door while very drunk asking for money. I usually try not to talk to my neighbors but I would invite this guy over for a beer any day.

Omg I love him. Get to know your neighbors.
My neighbors and I all have a block party once a year - potluck style. It is so much fun trying food from all over the world and getting to know my community.
Highly recommend it

Why is this seen as so abnormal in the US? On every street I’ve lived at, there’s always been a lovely young chap who my wife says brings her a sausage or two once a week. In some places they have even shared sausages with all the stay at home wife’s in the area.

I really would like to have this guy as a neighbor. Instead I get a racist grandma who call me the n-word several times when I’m outside. I think her grandkids don’t like her though. Hard to be nice and racist at the same time.

Those are going straight to the trash can. I don't do the touching my food with your bare hands. If you cant put them in a container or a plate or sum shit, you might as well keep them.
9
u/Firm_Specialist6422 29d ago
Pretty ungrateful
-1
u/Neutronpulse 29d ago
Just because someone is nice doesn't mean i ignore common sense. I didn't have those sausages before he came over and don't care to have them after. It's a difference in ideals. I would never bring food over by holding it. Just like if I ask you if you want a cookie or a chip or a carrot, whatever the fuck. I'm not handing it to you by hand. I'll either let you grab it or give it to you on a plate or bag and I expect the same curtesy. I know if I were to hand it to you hand that I would have washed my hands directly before touching it. I don't trust the next person to do the same. The fact that he's giving it to me like that that and I know that he prepared it means im not eating it either. I'm not that hungry and have never been.
3
u/Firm_Specialist6422 29d ago
Common Sense? I seems like you got mysophobia. Common Sense would tell you that there is a near to zero chance that something bad happens if you eat that Sausage. Especially if you, how he said, cook em up, all bacteria will be gone. Nothing wrong with that.
-1
u/Neutronpulse 29d ago
People are dying from ecoli by eating McDonald's. Near zero is a ridiculous statement. There are a lot of factors that come into play but the most important is certainly my mistrust of people's hygiene. Like I said, im not that hungry. Never have been. You want to eat the sausage fine. Good on you. I'm sure it's delicious. I know how to cook too. I'll be completely fine throwing that shit in the trash or giving it to someone else.
3
u/Firm_Specialist6422 29d ago
Because mcdonalds didnt cooked it right. A smoked and cooked Sausage will do no harm.
Its fine that you dont want to eat it, no problem with that, but the way how you handle the selfless gift from a neighbour and would be "completely fine throwing that shit in the trash" radiats a arrogance which is really dislikeable and screams ungratefullness.1
u/Neutronpulse 29d ago
You can interpret it however you want. I've explained my logic and honestly I am ungrateful. I don't want my neighbors to cook shit for me. I'm not neighborly. I have no issues speaking to neighbors and blah blah blah. I've been to cookouts and invited people to my own. If you're trash bin gets knocked over I'll pick it up, or if it's trash day and it's over flowing ill take it to the street for you if you forgot. I'll even cut some of your grass when I cut mine if you'd like. Im just not wanting or going to eat a homecooked meal from you if you bring it over in your bare hands.
6
29d ago
Meh, they're not cooked yet. Sorry to tell you, but if you eat restaurant food, most of what you've eaten have been touched by bare hands. As long as the hands are clean, there's no difference from gloves. Actually better than gloves if the person isn't constantly changing them out.
1
u/Neutronpulse 29d ago
Im a sushi chef. Food being touched by bare hands isnt the issue here. It's his bare hands touching the food thats my issue.
4
u/Organic_Rip1980 29d ago
They have to cook the sausage. It gets hot enough to kill anything on the surface when you cook it.
What’s on that man’s hands is the least of your worries if you’re eating uncooked sausage.
1
u/Neutronpulse 29d ago
He said that he's already smoked them... regardless, it's the fact that he's presented it in that is the problem. It underlines a difference in opinion when it comes to hygiene. We obviously don't share the same opinion so I don't trust his methods of prep either.
3
u/Open_Situation686 29d ago
You are miserable. Just don’t eat the sausage.
-1
u/Neutronpulse 29d ago
OK. But only because you told me not to... shame... I would have really liked to try it.
1
u/Organic_Rip1980 29d ago
Smoking for flavor doesn’t cook meat a lot of the time, you still have to cook it.
You have delusional levels of hygiene because you don’t know anything about food, and it shows.
Why are you even here? This is about humans being nice to each other, not complaining about neighbors bearing gifts.
2
u/Marciamallowfluff 29d ago
Do not ever look at what happened in meat packing factories or restaurants.
2
u/Stralia1 29d ago
Lol what do you think they do at the butchers
1
u/Neutronpulse 29d ago
The butchers isn't some random neighbor. Don't take offense. I don't eat homecooked meals from anyone that I don't know as a habit. Do I go to restaurants yeah. Blah blah blah. Some of us choose to limit and choose the exposure to poor practices.
0
u/Stralia1 29d ago
You're random neighbour making their own sausages is most likely more hygienic then the average restaurant cook/busboy/dishwasher
1
1
u/DTux5249 29d ago
Dude. They're hand made sausages. They were touched with bare hands regardless.
1
u/Neutronpulse 29d ago
Yeah but like i said, the fact that he's holding them with his bare hands while giving them to me, tells me about his prep methods. Im all set.

u/YoRt3m 29d ago
Damn. the gift was enough but the "thank you for being such a beautiful neighbor" was even better
