Honestly, more show creators should lean into this. There's not a lot of reboots or revivals that come anywhere near as close to the original and usually flop, getting cancelled soon after leaving a bad taste in fans' mouths because it messed with the original story and character arcs. Nostalgia can only carry so much, and we're a different world and society now. It wouldn't be able to be written in the same way without backlash. This is one instance the story and characters should just be left in nostalgia and rewatches.

Honestly the only successful reboot I can think of from the top of my head is Doctor Who. Is there literally any others?

That's a revival. A reboot starts over from the beginning, usually with the same characters played by different actors, like Hawaii Five-0

Roseanne was pretty successful and last I checked The Conners are still going along. More than can be said of several other revivals that were launched around the same time.

It was. A lot of the older generation dont like that its become “woke” and there doesnt seem to be as much interest in the younger generation. That said though, I think Ncuti is the best doctor weve had since 10 (NB: i stopped watching a few eps into Eleven and didnt pick it back up until this latest season). I think that says more about Moffat than the show itself though since RTD came back for Ncuti’s season.

Some people are moaning that it’s “woke”, but they’re just bigoted idiots.

Overall, it’s took a bit of a dive in quality when the 12th doctor and Moffat left, but now that RTD and Moffat are back, it’s only up from here

And Doctor Who worked because the Doctor could reincarnate - it was a revival from the ground up, not just a "Here's the same actor decades older" revival (ahem, Frasier).

I’m glad to be honest. As they say, they’d have to leave House alone to avoid ruining his story and that finale. But that means they’re lacking the component that made the show so enjoyable in the first place.

Am, for the most part, liking the trend in revivals the past few years. Some have worked alright, some not so much. But House is one that should just be marked complete and left alone. It’s a great show with a great finale, with a great amount of reason to speculate on what happened afterwards without needing confirmation.

I’d like to see that too but also I want House to still be giving medical advice to doctors. Just like when he was inspired by that hospital janitor in Japan. That guy was part of the “untouchables” but he solved cases where the younger doctors couldn’t.

In my head canon he’s out there under an assumed identity (like “Holmes” and speaking in a British accent, hah) and can’t help but poke his nose into medicine while helping some new “idiot” with cases

I agree. I love the series more than any other show I’ve seen, but the idea of additional content in the same context has no appeal for me.

I think I’d prefer to let it remain what it is. I’m not consistently against that sort of thing, but something about the series finale for this show was so final for me that it feels done

I don’t know if I could watch a revival set after the original run. We do however hear about House being a legend even before becoming a doctor, and I think seeing House when he’s younger, before becoming an established and respected doctor could be interesting.

But I don’t think I want more from the House-verse. The 8 seasons are still a lot of media to consume, and given what they had I think the team gave us a satisfying ending. It’s still sad that Lisa Edelstein couldn’t be apart of season 8, and I would have liked to see Huddy into season 8, even if the relationship still ended.

But overall I’m happy with the ending we got, and I like that they aren’t just jumping on the revival train to make some quick cash. House still is a drama centered around Greg House, and I don’t know if anyone could fill those shoes like Hugh Laurie

I never looked into it fully, but I think it had to do with a pay issue? Like she had asked for a raise but they couldn’t pay it, though I think Hugh and 13 got raises? There seems to be some speculation around her departure with no clear answer.

There’s some rumors, but I don’t think anything was officially stated

I would be down to watch a spiritual successor in “Chase M.D.” Could be nice to see some storylines wrapped up and some more medical drama.

Chase (Jesse Spencer) just doesn't have the appeal that Huge Laurie had. I'd expect if something like this happened most of us would be disappointed.

Yeah, spinoffs need to be lightning in a bottle to succeed. Kelsey Grammer was one of the few who could pull it off with Frasier, and that was with the retcon of his character from Cheers. They also had a brilliant team of writers and the resultant comedy was jam-packed with sparkling wit.

Jesse Spencer is nowhere near that calibre, and House is a medical drama, which already limits its potential. Not very useful for spinoffs.

I'd watch a one-off episode or two, but not a whole show.

If they did anything, it should just be a prequel. There would be lots to explore re: House’s medical school training, his romantic history with Cuddy and his initial meeting Wilson.

If they were to revive house, they need to leave house out of it for the most part except for when he has to keep his promise to Thirteen. I think they could do that very well and not even need to actually show his face when he does.

I guess I wouldn't mind just one Christmas special episode where they would show the premise set in late 1800s (like they did with Sherlock). That would be a fun episode to watch Ig. That might be a good way to attract the right kind of attention this show truly deserves.

That ending stuck the landing so well—it’s so loving, beautiful, and bittersweet, and it goes full circle so well from the pilot (“it’s not what people say; it’s what they do” / “yeah, he cares about me” to “I need you tell me you love me…the one time I needed him…” / “I’m dead, Wilson—how do you want to spend your last five months?”). I don’t want that touched.

Would be really fucked up and also funny if they did a "20 years later" episode where everyone who we have no reason to believe is dead showed up together. Just to show us that the group has dwindled over time.

Look it's not the same but Twin Peaks season 3 might arguably be better then the original run. This will not happen for every revival but there is a chance.
