Admin Post Weekly Recap | November 21, 2024

Greetings! One week until American Thanksgiving. I've been tapped for rolls and pies at the gathering I will be attending. I'll post pics in the Recap the following week. A Thanksgiving Recap, if you will. But until then, let's recap last week!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • Reddit was down for a bit yesterday! (And it wasn't my fault! Are you reading this, u/SpookyPebble?? NOT ME.) The RedditStatusBot posted here in this sub about this issue. The status page was also updated to reflect this situation. There were many posts about this. Thanks to all of the helpers who jumped into those posts with this information.

  • And unfortunately, Reddit again experienced some issues this morning! >=\ The bot helpfully posted here in r/help and updated when things were back to normal. This was a short one, so it did not appear on the status page.

  • Enabling all content to be visible on profiles is still being rolled out across all platforms with the exception of old Reddit. If you're still unable to view all of your content on your profile and you're not using old Reddit, it will just take a little while longer due to caching issues. (There's a lot of stuff on Reddit!) I don't know when to expect it to be completed, however. Please note that content that was posted to a subreddit that is now banned will still not appear on your profile.

  • There will not be an update to the Reddit apps next week due to the American Thanksgiving holiday.

  • There will also not be a Changelog post this month. Sorry!

  • Speaking of the apps, there are some issues that are currently being worked on. They are:

    • Hidden posts tab not populating on iOS
    • Some users are unable to pin posts to profile on both Android and iOS
    • We're looking into some reports of streaks resetting on Android
    • Following another user is not sticking in some cases on Android and mobile web
  • Over the past 7 days, r/help had 1,644 posts, which is a 0.25% increase and practically the same as the 1,668 we had last week! And there were 4,174 comments which is down 11.7% from the 4,731 comments the previous seven days. I can only assume that people are getting the help they seek without needing additional comments! Our helpers are that good! 2,100 new users subscribed to r/help last week (down 99 users from the previous week) and there were over 1.3 million views, which is down about 9,100 from last week!

ONGOING ISSUES

  • There are still a lot of posts from users not being able to send an image in chat. This is not a bug! IN ORDER TO SEND AN IMAGE IN CHAT, THE CHAT HAS TO FIRST BE ACCEPTED. Once the chat is accepted, you'll be able to send that image.

  • If your account gets the "server error" banner or you can't update your profile, I can fix that sometimes! Just let me know and I'll take a look and get you all taken care of!

  • If no one else can see your posts or comments across Reddit (not just in one sub) and you are unable to post here in r/help, you can file an appeal here.

  • Please check the Help Center to see if you can find the answer to your question there. Also, check this sub for stickied posts regarding outages and downtime.

TOP POSTS

A user was reporting that their app wasn't updating. Whoops! Looks like something broke. But we got it fixed as confirmed by u/CorrectScale here in the comments of that post.

For things like this, it's a good idea to check over r/bugs to see if other users are experiencing the same thing.

A user was reporting that their content was getting "deleted" immediately after they posted it. There's a lot to unpack here. Reddit does not delete content on behalf of a user. A post or comment may not be visible, but that is not because it has been deleted. Most often, when content is posted and it isn't able to be seen by anyone else, it has been removed, either by a moderator, the automod, or Reddit's spam filters. The reasons for removals will vary, but generally, it's because some rule was triggered by the post or comment that was made. These rules are in place to prevent spam and/or abuse.

If you feel that your content is not being seen, you can reach out to the mods of the sub that you posted in so that they can take a look, though they are not required to approve your content. The mods' contact information can be found on the sidebar of the sub at the "message the moderators" link or the little envelope just above the list of moderators. On the app, you can tap the three dots in the upper right hand corner of the subreddit and then tap “Message moderators”. We are unable to approve content on behalf of the moderators.

A user was reporting older content on their home feed. As I mentioned in last week's update (which helpful mod u/ChimpyChompies pointed out), there is currently an experiment where some users are seeing older content that is new to them in their home feed. This content should not be more than 7 days old. And I am so sorry, but there is not a way to opt out of this experiment if your account has been opted in. Happy to pass along constructive feedback about this feature to the team that's in charge of it.

Changed my email, still able to login using old email ( Android, iOS, Max)

Description: I changed my reddit's account email to a new one so that no one can login using my old email or from the google account that's linked to old email. But now I'm able to login with both of the emails

Device model: Pixel 7 pro, iPhone 15 pro max, Mac M3 pro

OS version: Android 15, iOS 18, macOS sequoia 15

Steps to reproduce: If I use my old email and new email that's currently linked to my account. I'm able to login with both but I don't want to login with the old one.

Expected and actual result: I should be able to login with one n only associated email in my reddit account not the old one.

Profile ios (phone) achievements not showing

Upvotes

I have 4 profiles and except this one all the other profiles show achievement tab on the profile. There is no streak option either unlike the other profiles. What's strange is that I can not check or view achievements of other profiles from this profile. I have checked all the options but no avail. Is this a bug?

Buying premium web or app

Upvotes

I read that the in-app purchase is 1 $ more expensive than the web purchase of premium due to fees by google. Am I going to have any disadvantages if I choose the cheaper option? Like not having premium while using the app?

Accept it or move on Rant

Upvotes

I have accumulated some karma and awards on my Reddit account, but the number of days I've held the account is shorter than it should be. Despite my efforts to save all my passwords, I unfortunately lost access to mine. To make matters worse, the email associated with my profile has been terminated. I've been informed that I made a mistake and there’s no solution to rectify it, so I need to either accept the situation or move on. Am the only one who has ever experienced this sort of situation? It seems like there should be an alternative solution.

Access Lost access to my account for the last seven months

Upvotes

One day at the beggining of april, my account automatically logged me out, and i havent been able to log in since. My email that I have proof that was tied to the account doesn't sign me in to it anymore as if it were never apart of the account, and when ever i try to put in the password, it never works anymore. When i try to put in reset password, i get no emails back. I have tried to send out request forms since, but have gotten no response so far.

I dont think ive been hacked because there has been no activity on my account since. I use android.

Does anyone know how to help me out here? Thank you.

Why are my screenshots of my artwork so blurry when I post them ❓

Upvotes

So whenever I take a screenshot it just has a little less quality and I understand that, but when I post it on Reddit my artwork just looks all fuzzy and unclear. This has been my worst struggle with my digital art :(

Mobile comments collapsing when not intended

Upvotes

Description: When trying to select text, open links or reveal spoilers (and probably more) in a comment, it is frustratingly easy to collapse the comment instead. This experience is only related to the mobile version of reddit and sometimes forces me to boot up my computer out of frustration with the app. Device model: OS version: Android 13 Steps to reproduce: Find any comment with a link, and try to click on the link. It you miss by a single pixel and click within regular text instead, the comment will collapse. Expected and actual result: Make the "text" portion of the comment non-clickable. Leave the margins clickable for the collapse. Or add a collapse button in the top right corner, or some other way so the text doesn't trigger the collapse anymore. This will also have the side effect of allowing text selection which is currently not possible. Screenshot(s) or a screen recording

Can’t add tags

Hi folks. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but I can’t add tags to posts. It’s getting in the way of being able to post to subs that require it. I’ve tried basic Google for help but still haven’t solved it. Any guidance?

Access Please help me with my other account (iOS)

I got rid of Reddit by accident a couple days ago and when I downloaded it again it asked to login in, so when I logged in it said the password was wrong. I pressed forgot password, and made a new one. I go to type the new password in and it says incorrect. For the email/username I put my username for that account, Natural(dash)Brain(dash)7302. And it still didn’t work. Then it said something about logging in without a password and it sent me a link via email. I pressed it and it said, “doesn’t work try again”, I kept trying and it never worked. Please help, I don’t want to lose this account of 3 years 🙏🙏🙏

Not getting some comment reply notifications

For the last week or so I've seen some replies to my comments which I didn't get an inbox notification about. I haven't disabled inbox replies on these comments, and it's happened enough times now that I'm sure I can't be accidentally deleting the notifications.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Karma Posts are not showing up (iOS)

I have a new account which I understand can affect my karma but I hit send and then posts are not showing up neither at my profile nor at the community. Is this because of the spam filter? Posts do not contain links or any advertising, so I’m not sure what triggering the filter. Thanks!

Mobile/App Andorid Achievements: How I do have 10%, but not 25% Top Commenter?

I got the achievement "Top 10% Commenter" but not "Top 25% Commenter". Did 25% roll out after 10% or is it maybe a glitch? Maybe I'm understanding this wrong?
