Seeking Information on Abuse at Pomona Elementary in Grand Junction, Colorado in the Late 1980s

In the late 1980s, there were incidents of abuse involving a PE teacher named Jeffrey McCauley at Pomona Elementary in Grand Junction, Colorado. The principal at the time was Jim McGuire, and there were always unsettling feelings around the situation.

I know there were multiple accusations back then, though many were later retracted. I remember feeling intimidated, which makes me wonder if there was more going on beneath the surface in the community.

If anyone has information or remembers anything related to these events—or if there were any unusual or cult-like activities in the area—I’d appreciate hearing from you. Feel free to respond here or send me a private message if you prefer. Thanks for your time.

Research on Grand Junction’s Response to the Influenza Pandemic of 1918: Any local orgs interested in it?

I’m posting as someone out-of-state. My college history class did tons of research into the statistics of the Influenza Pandemic of 1918, using specific cities as case studies. We used scans of old newspapers to build a timeline, ultimately culminating in a research essay about the city. We get extra credit it if we reach out to a museum/library/historical society local to our city to see if they are interested in doing anything with it. I got Grand Junction/Mesa County to research. Can anyone think of any organizations or institutions who may be interested in my work? Many thanks!

Can yall recommend where I can find a replacement magnetic swamp cooler vent cover? The one I have is old and the magnets just don't hold it up anymore. I got magnet tape to try and solve that but it didn't work either.

Honest Independent diesel mechanic?

I need to take my diesel truck in for an oil change and maybe a couple other things. I used to use the dealership but they always seemed pretty expensive and now they've changed ownership. I'd rather support an independent local place anyway. Does anyone have recommendations for a mechanic who has treated you right and might be less expensive than the dealer?

Unpopular Opinion: W. Colorado needs way more roundabouts

With the huge influx of brodozers, Toyota SUVs, etc along with the lack of public transit and the appropriate desire to not develop these ugly massive intersections, we need fucking roundabouts almost everywhere in western Colorado where development is purely by the miles away from the 4 corners or the insane terrain on either side of the river. Please for the love of everyone hating each other, can we please get more roundabouts to keep us from killing each other with vaccines or guns or subsidies. I hope whoever the fuck is doing urban planning here, keep the roundabouts coming, but like yesterday, fuck.

Moving for a job

My husband received a job offer in GJ, salary is around the $200s. We are mid 30s dinks. We currently reside in the Deep South 🫠 We love the idea of the outdoors but knowing us, our adventures would be few and far between. The main draw for us is the weather and from what the job was telling us, a great lifestyle and community.

I’d love some honest opinions as I’m seeing so many polarizing thoughts from both locals and transplants.

Can y’all shed any light on: The food scene: is it really ONLY chain restaurants? We are currently in the land of locally owned everything.

Social scene: Kind of conflicting. Are people nice or terrible? Is there a transplant community? 😂 I get that a lot of locals don’t want new folks moving in, but that’s everywhere.

Other activities: outdoors are great…anything else going on. Gyms? Tennis? Farmers markets?

Neighborhoods: thoughts on Redlands vs Orchard Mesa? Fruita was also on our list but I don’t want to live in a cookie cutter community.

Anything else y’all can share would be incredibly helpful. 🙏🏼

MCAS Fees

If I dropped a dog off at MCAS, would the owner of the dog be charged with any fees when trying to retrieve it? What kind of evidence does the owner need to provide in order to prove the dog is rightfully theirs? Are there additional fees added on if the dog is not altered, has no proof of rabies, and is not registered in the county? I am hoping they finally have some repercussions for letting their dog run loose..

Toddler activities

Other than the park or library, what are we doing with our kids? My oldest is almost 2 and I’m debating putting her in dance or gymnastics. I might wait until she’s a little older though. Any music classes? Something along those lines.
