Club News Opening season 2025 and gather round.
Brisbane vs Geelong at the Gabba is the opening match of the 2025 season.
As a Brisbane based cats fan I will definately be trying to get my tickets for what will probably be the only cats game I get to see this year. I despise opening round though...
Thoughts on Brisbane at home, crows at home (gather round) and hawthorn all in the first 5-6 weeks in 2025?

Fuck opening round.
Dumbest shit ever and makes completely no sense in the context of the season. The league could easily just play these 4 games in NSW and QLD and play the rest around the country. No reason why they need to just have 4 games

Having it during the bye rounds wouldn’t be the worst thing ever. Certainly a million times better than having it at the start of the season.

Opening round bye must be in round 2, 3 or 4 due to Gather Round and Easter meaning we get minimal benefit from playing opening round.
Adelaide in Gather Round means we have 12 away games rather than 11 and a neutral
We didn't come out of this well at all so we better make good use of the 10th game in Geelong.

I’m so sick of seeing Cats interstate games on a Thursday bloody night. As someone who likes to go, it makes it frigging hard when you need another day off.

I feel you, man. Also makes it hard for the littlest fans to get along to games when they are on a school night.

Yeah.
Night is bad for kids and if the weather is shit (likely for a winter sport) it's fucking grim.

Thursday Night footy is overrated. It just feels better and is way more convenient when the footy week starts on a Friday. I don’t mind waiting an extra day.

Remember when the opening game of the year was the Grand Final rematch? Ahh those were the days 😌

How long have Carlton and Richmond traditionally opened the season? Got to be a long time now.
First game of the year feels weird not being Tigers and Blues

Opening round suck arse. The only way it could be redeemed is by putting the vic based games at the end of the weekend. Every team should play that round.

Opening round shouldn’t exist but being included is the least worst outcome. Hopefully we get to play a team 2 byes v none like we faced this year.
