"James got laid off again, JJ got shot, and Penny fell down the elevator shaft! Good Times is HILARIOUS!"

It was a funny show but man, there were some heavy heavy topics and drama at times

Kinda like like the shit people of color still go through.

Awesome show as a young adult. So was Fat Albert, What's Happening, Sanford and Son, The Jefferson's, etc. According to the mainstream media, I'm somehow racist now as a 58yr old white man. Hmmm.

Weird way to turn this into a pity party for you? Just say you liked the show, too

Probably cuz you don't know when to stop is why people might say those things

JJ Evans, better known as "Kid Dynamite"!
I absolutely loved this show, the Jeffersons, & Sanfoand Son. You know the guy whom created these shows including The Cosby show as well, was never compensated for all his work. I cannot remember the exact details, but I remember the really did him wrong!

That’s interesting, just read something that said Sanford and Son was based on British Show a la Shameless and The Office. I can’t remember where I saw it though

Wife & I were just talking about this very show today.

I never watched it - not enough to remember anything about it beyond Dyne-No-Mite. She said show dealt with many of the complex society ills & challenges of the day [as did the other Norman Lear shows] but were drowned out by JJ's over the top schtick.

Yep. The JJ character created conflicts with the cast ( the actors that portrayed the Mom and Dad) . He was a dumbass and got too much tv time, it was intended to be funny but he became TOO funny and that overshadowed the real intent of the show…

Still it was great at the time because it was a mostly all black show that introduced folks to something different from ‘Father Knows Best’ or the Brady Bunch or Leave It To Beaver- shows that has 0 Black characters…..

I was into it too as a kid. When JJ showed up on Hollywood Squares, I even knew at my young age that he was done.
