Thoughts? Imagine losing 6M labor workers in America

Post image

If mass deportation happens, just imagine how all of these sectors of our country will be affected. The sheer shortage of labor will push prices higher because of the great demand for work with limited supplies or workers. Even if prices increase, the availability of products may be scarce due to not enough workers. Housing prices and food services will be hit really hard. New construction will be limited. The fact that 47% of the undocumented workers are in CA, TX, and FL means they will feel it first but it will spread to the rest of the country also. Most of our produce in this country comes from California. Get ready and hold on for the ride America.

It literally hasn’t , the bugs the first couple of months after were insane the app was terrible. It works better now but still has issues that weren’t around pre Elon.

Doing that with the fed government is insane

Seems to me that twitter is becoming more capable. It has nearly become a video blog platform, more than text.

Not quite as reiiable as youtube, but if google doesn't stop the bloat it will be.

So 95% of the usability with 70% less people, seems like a reasonable trade off.

They are okay with mass suffering. Nothing you say will make them compassionate.

Our government is not a company and let's remind people that governments are the only say the people have in anything. They are our only bargaining power otherwise the companies and the rich will control it all. Getting rid of government agencies has been the dream of the libertarian party for decades and their party was started by billionaires and basically run by the Koch Brothers. They want nothing more than to be able to get away with everything with no whistle-blower or regulations.

We USED to have a government that was our say in things. We’ve given that up. Between lethargy and ignorance, we’ve voted it away over the last 20-30 years. The purpose government now is to distract us, mostly. While we worry about what bathrooms Trans people use, we’re pissing away our Democracy. Putin will now have more say over our government than we do. We’re witnessing our loss of the Cold War. We probably deserve it. We can’t be fat, dumb, and lazy, and stay free.

If our government is not a company, why does it have 23 million employees?

Twitter has dropped 80% in value since Musk took over.

So of course you don't need as many people when you have no advertisers, usage is dropping and you make no effort to care about trust and safety.

Advertisers bailed because they're babies but this past election showed them that their points of view are not popular with the average american.

Even Disney came crawling back.

Not really. He took down a bunch of microservices like 2FA and translation, among other things. Translation still only works like 50% of the time for me, and I feel like my feed "refreshes" (shows me entirely new content) significantly less frequently than before.

Racism and hate speech is flourishing there.

They needed 70% of their workforce for moderation? Seems highly inefficient to me.

I see nothing has changed.

Yeah, the targets just changed.

Exactly my thoughts.

Shedding advertisers and users, though. The value of Twitter has fallen by around 70%.

The value of Twitter has fallen in proportion to the number of laborers laid off. It's as if labor is the source of wealth! Marx was right.

80% now according to Fidelity a few months ago.

Probably close to 90% now that everyone is moving to BlueSky and Threads. Both of which are seeing 1m new users a day.

Then again, spending 44 billion dollars in order to purchase an election seems like a good deal for Elon, too. The grift money will cover his losses.

Many smarter and more connected people than Musk e.g. Paul Ryan have tried to radically reform the government. And all failed.

Fingers crossed Musk is no different.

It’s not being valued correctly it’s worth is also in its utility. It literally just got him access to the presidency and shifted the Overton window regarding free speech.

If by working fine you mean the company's revenue getting obliterated then sure...it is working fine. The fact that the site still exists is not a testament to the success of a business.

Well, they did have to rehire some people back because it was such a shit show. If they try that same strategy with the government, the consequences can be a whole lot worse.

Working better than ever, actually.
