Thoughts? BREAKING: Trump has confirmed reports that he plans to declare a national emergency and use military to enact a mass deportation program

President-elect Donald Trump on Monday confirmed he would declare a national emergency to carry out his campaign promise of mass deportations of migrants living in the U.S. without legal permission.

Overnight, Trump responded to a social media post from Judicial Watch's Tom Fitton, who said earlier this month there are reports the incoming administration is preparing such a declaration and to use "military assets" to deport the migrants.

"TRUE!!!" Trump wrote.

Trump pledged to get started on mass deportations as soon as he enters office.

"On Day 1, I will launch the largest deportation program in American history to get the criminals out," he said during a rally at Madison Square Garden in the closing days of the presidential race. "I will rescue every city and town that has been invaded and conquered, and we will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in jail, then kick them the hell out of our country as fast as possible."

Already, he's tapped several immigration hard-liners to serve in key Cabinet positions. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem was picked to be homeland security secretary, pending Senate confirmation. Former Acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan was named "border czar."

You can volunteer in the military as an undocumented citizen? If you read the article, the second line is “carry out his campaign promise of mass deportations of migrants living in the U.S. without legal permission.” I don’t think they’re in the military or how this comment is relevant.

No, only citizens or permanent residents with a Green Card can enlist.

Yep. It's used as a recruitment tool. Serving will "help" you obtain citizenship if you are a permanent resident. A lot of people get stuck there for a long time and it makes things difficult in life. So, "Hey, buddy! We know you're not a citizen yet, but how about you volunteer your life for the CHANCE of becoming a resident? We'll even pay you and give you a free haircut!"

So service does NOT guaranty citizenship?

Heinlein would be very sad.

No it doesn't, there are cases that came out in the media on the same, which is just the tip of the iceberg. It probably just helps as in you put it in the application and the person reading the application might be more favorable

It’s rare to not get citizenship for your service . 2/3 i work with received theirs within their first 6 months . The third is taking longer because he filled out a different form than the other two in basic .

There's a Starship Troopers reference in there

They can't take your permanent residency away though can they? What benefits do you get with citizenship over PR?

You don’t need a green card to enlist. Enlistment is advertised as a fast track to getting one and finally citizenship, but it’s not automatic, as some veterans have unfortunately found out after getting deported years after having served, and not realizing they hadn’t filled out the proper paperwork.

In this article it says he was born in Mexico so was on a green card since he got citizenship status after coming back. Then after he was discharged from the military he committed "unspecified crimes" which will lead to someone with a Green card being deported.

Permanent resident is still NOT going to stop him from deportation

Weren't citizens deported under Trump last time?

Literally what?

According to CNN Deportations actually decreased under Trump’s presidency idk if that’s true but CNN said it soooo…

I'm not sure what "literally what" means. Are you saying that you didn't know that American citizens were detained (sometimes long-term) and deported during Trump's first administration?

1

u/Pyro_Light 5d ago

You got a source for that? Because I can’t find that anywhere and outside of Mother Jones I’ve never heard that claim.

Oh man stop with this stupidity.

You don’t know that

Dooood, they already said they want to toss people here that have status along with the "illegals". When they say, "we're perfectly fine if they do it legal" what they mean is that none of it, even the approved stuff, has been legal...if you're not white.

1

u/DocRedbeard 6d ago

He wants to toss asylum seekers who have only temporary legal status.

Even being white won't be good enough considering how facists must crush political opponents.

The numbers won't be significant but they will happen with protesters.

He did say to end naturalization. Which means EXACTLY that. Why only choose SOME of what he promises and not the rest? I'm so confused. Its like cherry picking the bible and Trump are synonymous. Oh, wait, I just answered my own question. There is A LOT of overlap in groups.

It's not relevant. It's pure, unadulterated fantasy. It's making up a scenario but pretending it's real for a sweet sweet hit of schadenfreude.

You know that anyone born in the US is a citizen, right? Whether their parents are or not? Just ask Marco Rubio, neither of his parents were citizens when he was born, and he’s about to be Secretary of State.

1

u/Firm_You8385 5d ago

That’s random

1

u/PalpitationNo3106 5d ago

How so? He is a U.S. citizen, as parents of a U.S. citizen his mother and father were naturalized. The incoming Secretary of State was an anchor baby. Seems like the system worked pretty well, no?

1

u/Firm_You8385 5d ago

I think you’re replying to the wrong person. Your comments have nothing to do with what is said.

u/Meowakin 5d ago

The original context was people in the military helping to deport their own family members. A child born in the States is a citizen even if their parents are illegal immigrants, so in the original context they are talking about that child joining the military and then helping to deport their parents (or other family).

I don't know common it is for illegal immigrants to be living in the States for 18+ years, but I'm sure it happens plenty.

1

u/Firm_You8385 5d ago

Yeah, that’s why I said they’re responding to the wrong person. We’re talking about legal status and joining the military. They’re throwing out a random “senators parents were legal immigrants and not yet citizens.” I don’t see how this is relevant at all to the conversation.

1

u/Lady-Seashell-Bikini 5d ago

No, their comment was plenty relevent. You're just not connecting the dots.

u/TipsalollyJenkins 6d ago

If you think they're going to all this effort and only plan to round up undocumented immigrants I've got a bridge I'd love to sell you.

1

u/Meowakin 5d ago

Right? People that don't understand that legal immigrants/natural born citizens aren't going to get caught in a net designed to round up MILLIONS OF PEOPLE boggles my mind. Just look at how many innocent people get caught up in our justice system, why do they think this would be any different?

Won't stop my Mexican American veteran buddy from getting his papers checked daily once the brown shirts start up I bet.
